Driving Impressions

The non-AMG models in the 2026 GLC SUV lineup don’t put speed and acceleration at the forefront of the driving experience. Still, they’re quick, nonetheless, with the base GLC 300 capable of 5.9-second zero-to-60-mph runs, the 4Matic all-wheel-drive GLC 300 good for 6.0 seconds, and the GLC 350e plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) doing the deed in 6.3 seconds.
You might notice that the GLC 350e is the slowest of the group, despite also being the most powerful. Both of those traits are due to the presence of the PHEV system, which, although it boosts total output, also weighs enough to counteract that extra power, at least if acceleration from a stop.
Fuel Economy
The GLC 350e’s extra PHEV bits also mean it’s slightly less efficient after you’ve depleted the battery, earning a 25 mpg combined EPA rating versus the mild hybrid GLC 300’s 26 mpg combined. Both variants are on par for the compact luxury SUV segment, most earning between 25 and 29 mpg combined.
That said, the GLC 350e is rated at 64 MPGe when you take its impressive all-electric range of up to 54 miles into account.

Exterior

A thing of evolution rather than revolution, the GLC’s exterior style hasn’t changed much over the years but has kept up with the times. That’s fine in our book, as good design is timeless, and the GLC is definitely a good design. Despite its smaller footprint, the GLC has a presence that immediately marks it as a Mercedes-Benz.
If the standard SUV version of the GLC doesn’t keep your visual interest, don’t forget there’s a coupe variant, too, as well as high-performance AMG models with their own, subtly aggressive style.

As the name implies, the GLC’s augmented reality video system overlays important information, including turn-by-turn directions, over a video display of the outside world, making it easy to find that hidden drive or tricky left-hander.

High-End Cabin

Interior

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC&#8217;s interior remains one of its primary strengths. The cabin is spacious, high-tech, and well-made, with excellent materials and a modern design. A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen are standard equipment.
In the second row, you&#8217;ll find a generous 37.4 inches of legroom, about the same as the Audi Q5 offers, and just over an inch more than the BMW X3. Cargo space is good in the GLC, too, with 21.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats, a bit less than the Q5&#8217;s 25.4 cubic feet and considerably less than the X3&#8217;s 31.5 cubic feet. Still, the GLC offers plenty of cargo space for a few carry-ons and other travel necessities, even with both rows occupied.

The 2026 GLC offers two core powertrains. The first, the GLC 300, gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and 48-volt mild hybrid system mated to either front-wheel drive (FWD) or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The turbocharged 4-cylinder generates 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque in both guises, and both variants use a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The other powertrain is the GLC 350e, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). It uses an electric motor, a substantial battery pack, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for a total output of 313 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The GLC 350e comes with all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment.
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
Mercedes-Benz offers four years or 50,000 miles of powertrain warranty coverage, whichever happens first. These terms are typical among luxury automakers.
Safety Ratings

The all-electric 2026 BMW i5 midsize luxury sedan is eminently worthy of the famed blue-and-white badge and all that entails. Maximum range is 310 miles.

Power, Ride, and Handling

The i5 eDrive40 employs one electric motor, driving the rear wheels with a substantial 335 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. For some context, the entry-level Audi A6 Sportback e-tron has a maximum of 375 hp and can do the zero-to-60-mph dash in 5.2 seconds.
The xDrive40 adds another electric motor to drive the front axle, making a total of 389 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. It will get up to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. For reference, the all-wheel-drive version of the A6 Sportback e-tron develops 456 hp and does it in 4.3 seconds.
At the top of the entire 5 Series lineup stands the i5 M60, with two electric motors, all-wheel drive, plus a considerable 590 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque. The M60 hits 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is fabulously fast.
The i5 M60 has an adaptive suspension as standard, for a broad spectrum of comfort and sport settings. It also has rear-wheel steering (which BMW calls Integral Active Steering) helping the car track through fast corners in a spectacular manner. That said, this doesn’t feel exactly like the kind of M car we’ve grown to know and love. The steering turns the front wheels, but there’s no sensation of a real connection. The wheel also feels slightly too thick for our tastes. While we’re on this negative trail, the front sport seats didn’t feel that comfortable to us. But we’re prepared to give BMW the benefit of the doubt because they might prove to be supportive over a longer drive.
Overall, though, the i5 is smooth, silent, and fast. Even the famed BMW 50:50 weight distribution (for a great balanced feel) makes it into every i5. It also has some smart technology to help the driver, like keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front, even when adaptive cruise control isn’t activated. After a while, we felt the cooling system in the driver’s seat switch itself on. And all it takes is a voice command to perform various functions. We said, “Hey, BMW, activate massaging for the driver’s seat” and it happened straight away.
We looked for steering-wheel paddles to change levels of brake regeneration, but just found a Boost paddle instead, so that was a different kind of fun. We discovered that the key to one-pedal driving — where speeding up and slowing down is done just by how much pressure is on the accelerator, with the brakes only being used for more urgent halts — is to put the shifter into B mode.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The i5 eDrive40 has a maximum range of 310 miles (up from 295) on 19-inch wheels. That’s good, even if it’s not breaking any boundaries. By comparison, the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron stretches 392 miles, while the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan runs for 308 miles.
The 2026 i5 xDrive40 is rated at 278 miles (up from 266). We will update this section with the i5 M60’s range when the information becomes available. The 2025 model has a 253-mile range.
Another important aspect of an electric car is how fast it can charge. The metric here is taking the battery from 10% capacity to 80% using a DC fast charger. BMW says the i5 performs this task in 30 minutes. The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron can be nine minutes down the road when an i5 driver unhooks the charging cable. However, this is still acceptable in the present state of electric vehicle (EV) technology.

Evolved Exterior

BMW has its distinct design language, which could be an acquired taste for some. But we think the looks of the i5 (and the 5 Series in general) aren’t so polarizing that they would be deal-breakers. Considering how adventurous BMW has been with other vehicles, there’s something pleasantly conventional about this car — like it’s an evolution of previous 5 Series generations. There are 14 paint choices, including no-cost white, plus a couple of special Frozen finishes. One option to add a bit of glitz is an illuminated grille.

BMW Curved Display 
Every new i5 comes with this impressive one-piece unit housing a digital instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen.
Automatic Park Assistant 
This standard self-parking feature works for both perpendicular and parallel spaces.
Interaction Bar 
Spanning the dashboard&#8217;s width, this standard feature has touch-control functions for the front passenger and the ability to blend in with the cabin’s multicolored ambient lighting.
AirConsole 
This video gaming platform is offered for the first time, with 15 titles available. Players use their phones as controllers. It’s one way of passing the time while the i5 recharges its battery.
Bowers &amp; Wilkins surround-sound system 
Optional in the eDrive40 and xDrive40, standard in the M60, we’re big fans of B&amp;W audio systems for their clarity and power.
Driving Assistance Professional package 
We think this option is worth the investment. This bundle includes a Highway Assistant for hands-free (but not eyes-free) driving, plus evasive steering assistance, active lane-changing assistance, side collision protection, and front cross-traffic warning.

Classy Interior

Veganza is not some promotion at Whole Foods, but the name of a vegan-friendly simulated (and perforated) leather used on the seats, door panels, and even the steering wheel. The real stuff is available as an option.
The i5 doesn’t have conventional air vents either. BMW calls them seam vents and they’re extremely low-profile, in a line going across the dash. Overall, the i5’s cabin has high-quality materials and a restrained design that adds to the classiness. It also offers typical BMW extras like glass controls (which may not be everyone’s idea of tasteful), a Panoramic Sky Lounge roof, and powered shades for the rear windows.
Sitting up front, we really like the cushioned areas right where we’d rest our elbows. And rear passenger space is absolutely fine for an adult male of average size.
Trunk space is 17.3 cubic feet, a little less than the 18.4 cubic feet in the combustion-powered 5 Series (because of the i5’s battery), but generous nonetheless. The rear seats can also split and fold in 40/20/40 fashion.

We all know the BMW 5 Series. It’s been a remarkable member of the midsize luxury sedan class for generations. That’s human generations as well as car generations. The i5 is based on the same platform as the latest gasoline-powered 5 Series (both launched for the 2024 model year) and has an extremely similar set of impressive attributes. These include wonderful technology, a roomy and high-quality interior, and a driving experience that can appeal to enthusiasts without alienating the other occupants — a <a href="http://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> specialty. It’s just that the i5 uses electricity to deliver the thrills and prestige.

The eDrive40 is popular among i5 buyers. It has the best range and the lowest price. We think the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/a6-sportback-e-tron/">Audi A6 Sportback e-tron</a> is also well worth considering, and the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/eqe/">Mercedes-Benz EQE</a> sedan. Both cars have pricing similar to the i5.

Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

Battery and Efficiency

A high-voltage (400-volt) lithium-ion battery supplies the spark for the i5. Usable energy works out to 84.3 kilowatt-hours (kWh). The battery fits under the floor, so there’s the same amount of passenger space in every 5 Series model, electric or not.
BMW’s electric motors are designed so they don’t require rare elements like cobalt (that would usually go into magnets). That’s another little detail that might work in the i5’s favor.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties both last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical among European luxury car makers. The lithium-ion battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. There’s also roadside assistance for the first four years, with unlimited mileage.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The i5 hasn’t been crash-tested by any agencies in the Untied States, but it did receive a maximum five stars from Euro NCAP. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision mitigation with left turn warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.

The 2026 i5 can travel for a little longer between recharges, compared with the 2025 i5. For example, the eDrive40 goes from 295 to 310 miles, while its all-wheel-drive (AWD) counterpart adds 12 miles to its maximum for a total of 278 miles.

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is powered by a 231-horsepower turbocharged hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). That’s less power than the bigger turbo engine in the non-hybrid Santa Fe, but we still found its performance adequate for daily family-hauling duties. The obvious trade-off with the hybrid is better fuel economy at the expense of slower acceleration.
A delightful smoothness characterizes the driving experience of the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. It’s a leisurely drive that’s pleasant for around-town errand-running and long hauls on the highway. It’s all accomplished without having to visit the gas station too often; this SUV’s hybrid efficiency allows it to drive over 600 miles on a full tank. For those times when you want a livelier experience, simply switch the drive mode to the sport setting.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid earns an <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml">EPA</a>-estimated fuel economy rating of up to 36 city/35 highway/36 combined mpg with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive reduces that rating to 35 city/34 highway/34 combined mpg. These efficiency ratings are about the same as those of the Kia Sorento Hybrid and Toyota Highlander Hybrid. For reference, the most efficient version of the non-hybrid Santa Fe gets 20 city/29 highway/24 combined mpg.

Distinct Design

The boxy Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid has a rugged yet modern look, and the &#8220;H&#8221; motif in the LED lighting is a Santa Fe hallmark. Its sharp angles, straight lines, and floating roof design give the illusion that it’s bigger than it is. Unfortunately, the rugged-looking XRT trim is exclusive to the non-hybrid Santa Fe; you can’t get that cool appearance package with the hybrid.
We’d understand if you might be confused by Hyundai offering three different models in the midsize 3-row SUV class. In addition to the Santa Fe and its hybrid counterpart, there’s the bigger Hyundai Palisade, which is also available with a gas or hybrid powertrain, and the more upscale <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/ioniq-9/">Hyundai Ioniq 9</a>, which is all-electric. We bring them up to clarify that the Santa Fe is the smallest and most affordable 3-row option in the Hyundai lineup.

Powered tailgate 
If there’s one feature we always (and we mean always) appreciate in an SUV, it’s this. Even better, this one has hands-free operation and adjustable height settings. Better still — it’s standard across the lineup.
Built-in grab handle 
Hyundai really meant it when it said the Santa Fe Hybrid was designed to be an activity vehicle, one where you might put stuff on the roof. To help you get up there is an ingenious hidden grab handle in the C-pillar above the rear wheel. It’s flush until it’s pressed, and it’s even lockable.
Dual wireless charging pads 
There’s no need to fight the passenger to juice up with this thoughtful feature, standard in the Limited and Calligraphy trims. All other models get a single wireless charging pad.
Bi-directional center console 
The Santa Fe Hybrid features a dual-level center console, the top of which flips up from the front or back for easy access from either of the first two rows. We think this is a brilliant idea.
Highway Driving Assist 
Hyundai&#8217;s Highway Driving Assist is one of our favorite and most natural-feeling systems of its kind. Keep a light hand on the wheel, and the car will automatically keep a safe distance from the car in front of you while keeping you centered in your lane.
Panoramic Curved Display 
The Santa Fe Hybrid is available with one huge screen housing the central infotainment screen and a digital gauge cluster. This customizable setup shows you just about any information you want to see, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard.
Hyundai Pay 
We’re always happy to see technology like this. It allows users to pay for things like parking and gas directly from the touchscreen while safe inside the vehicle. For example, there’s no need to swipe a credit card at a sketchy gas station and risk getting the number skimmed. It comes in the Limited and Calligraphy trims.

Versatile Interior

We’re big fans of the Santa Fe Hybrid’s features, roominess, practicality, and interior design. Hyundai offers a Panoramic Curved Display integrating the infotainment screen and digital gauge cluster in one seamless unit. We’ve found it works well, conveying all the necessary information without being overwhelming.
A twist-to-drive column shifter opens up the center console where a traditional gear lever would usually go. Now that space holds the wireless phone charging pad (dual wireless charging pads are in the Limited and Calligraphy trims). Materials are of impressive quality. With a nod to sustainability, the Santa Fe Hybrid comes with recycled plastic in the seatbacks, mats, and headliner. Fine Nappa leather seating surfaces are available. Our only gripe is that most climate functions, including fan speed, rely on touch-sensing technology rather than a physical control. At least it still has knobs for temperature control.
This generation of Santa Fe Hybrid comes with three rows of seating as standard. The more affordable trims have a second-row bench and seating for up to seven; the 6-seat setup has a pair of exceptionally comfortable captain’s chairs in the second row. These are standard in the Limited and Calligraphy trims.
Unsurprisingly, the larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/palisade/">Palisade</a> SUV has more space for people and stuff, but the Santa Fe Hybrid still has plenty of legroom (41.5 and 30 inches in rows two and three, respectively). This is a pretty good third row, but still best reserved for children and occasional use. This SUV also has decent cargo space — 14.6 cubic feet behind the rear-most seats, opening out to a total of 79.6 cubic feet. Impressively, cargo space and third-row legroom are identical between the hybrid and non-hybrid versions of the Santa Fe.
Those second and third rows fold nearly flat, while the huge tailgate complements an equally sizable aperture leading into what Hyundai calls a &#8220;terrace-like&#8221; space inside. The result (and intention, according to Hyundai’s designers) is a place where owners can tailgate or even sleep.
