<p>We expect the 2026 Solterra to feel even more emboldened with its 233 hp, a bump up from the 215 of the past model. One of the many cool things about electric vehicles is that acceleration is immediate. Like flicking a light switch, pressing the accelerator provides instant thrust. That thrust will be even more apparent in the 2026 Subaru Solterra XT, which has motors outputting 338 hp. Subaru says it will enable a zero-to-60-mph sprint in less than five seconds. That’s quick indeed.</p>
<p>All Solterra models are all-wheel drive thanks to a motor at each axle. Being a Subaru, the Solterra is also meant for at least some light off-roading. Here, its 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a retuned all-wheel-drive system, and drive modes including Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Yes, there are two different settings for snow. The Solterra is a Subaru, indeed.</p>
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
<p>For its 2026 reboot, Subaru says the Solterra has 25% better range than the outgoing model. That is, it is estimated to go more than 285 miles between charges, versus the rather meager 227 miles of the outgoing model.</p>
<p>Furthermore, Subaru says the new Solterra can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 35 minutes on a DC fast charger. Both these numbers still trail the Ioniq 5, but are still pretty impressive. Also helping the public charging cause, the 2026 Solterra will include a North American Charging System (NACS) charge port, meaning the 2026 Solterra can drink electrons from the Tesla Supercharger network.</p>

<p>We’ll be the first to acknowledge that the past Solterra’s exterior styling was, uh, unique. Like its bZ4X sibling from Toyota, it had a lot going on. This new one has tamed much of that busyness while retaining familiar elements like the boomerang taillights and sleek sloping rear window. The new front end is almost minimalist. We’ve only seen photos of the new Solterra in white, so it’s all quite stark. We imagine more color schemes will bring added appeal.</p>

<p>The Solterra sees upgrades to its 5-passenger cabin for its 2026 reintroduction. Front and center is a standard 14-inch touchscreen, along with dual wireless phone chargers so you don’t have to argue with your spouse or friend over who gets to juice their phone. We still have some reservations about the dial-based gear selector, but hopefully, familiarity at least leads to acceptance for owners. We are, however, fans of square-shaped steering wheels, and the Solterra has one. With its chunky console between driver and passenger, the Solterra doesn’t feel as open and airy as, say, an Ioniq 5. But they’ve gotta put all those electronics and dual charging pads somewhere.</p>

<p>The Solterra is Subaru’s first dedicated electric vehicle, an SUV that debuted for the 2023 model year as a joint project with Toyota and a twin to that brand’s bZ4X. While the initial Solterra filled an EV-sized hole in Subaru’s lineup, it trailed rivals in range and power. Subaru is addressing both for the 2026 Solterra — and adding some cherries on top.</p>
<p>This new version can travel more than 285 miles between charges and has 233 horsepower. Both are improvements over the last Solterra, and while still not class-leading, at least put the new one in serious competition with rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Chevrolet Equinox EV. Perhaps best of all, the Solterra is instilled with the Subaru traits of all-wheel drive (AWD) and an adventurous attitude, while the new Solterra XT injects potency into the mix.</p>

<p>The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV uses a 74.7-kWh battery pack. Its MPGe is still to be determined. Unlike rivals that offer both single and dual motors for either front- or rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, all Solterra models use two motors and have all-wheel drive standard, a well-loved Subaru trait.</p>
<p><strong>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</strong></p>
<p>Like most mainstream carmakers, Subaru offers bumper-to-bumper limited warranty protection for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain coverage is for five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, Subaru covers the EV components for eight years or 100,000 miles.</p>
<p><strong>Safety</strong></p>
<p>The last Solterra earned top marks for its crash safety, and we expect the new one to also perform well. However, we must await testing for official scores. The Solterra does come standard with a long list of safety and driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and much more.</p>

<p>The efficient and fast-charging Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan gets a refresh for 2026 with updated styling and a revised interior.</p>

<p>The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is powered by a 225-horsepower electric motor motivating the rear wheels. There’s also a 149-hp single-motor variant and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain with 320 hp.</p>
<p>We found the Hyundai Ioniq 6 a delight to drive with any powertrain. Most single-motor rear-wheel-drive variants hit 60 mph from a standstill in seven seconds, and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup gets there about two seconds quicker. Like many EVs, the experience of moving away from a stop so quickly is heightened by the smooth and quiet manner in which it happens.</p>
<p>Another common virtue of EVs like this one is a hushed cabin on the highway, which is a relaxed experience with Highway Driving Assist. Quietness has become something of a trademark of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai EVs</a>, and the Ioniq 6 is no exception. One of our gripes is that the weight of the heavy battery pack can give the Ioniq 6 a choppy ride on uneven pavement, especially with the available 20-inch wheels.</p>
<p>By virtue of being a sedan rather than an SUV, there’s an expectation for the Ioniq 6 to be more responsive and engaging than the Ioniq 5, but we’ve found them about equally enjoyable. Both offer a smooth one-pedal driving feature, which becomes a game of how little you can use the brake pedal to maximize efficiency. Then, it’s simply a better way of operating a vehicle.</p>
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
<p>Using the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 as a measuring stick, we expect the 2026 Ioniq 6 to get a max range of about 342 miles with the bigger battery, rear-wheel drive, and 18-inch wheels. Its max range with all-wheel drive should be around 316 miles, and its Standard Range battery should manage about 240 miles. As is the case with all EVs, opting for all-wheel drive or bigger wheels hurts range and efficiency.</p>
<p>The Ioniq 6 boasts impressive charging speeds, with a peak rate of 350 kW (that’s high). With DC fast charging, it can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. With Level 2 charging at home, it reliably gets a full charge overnight.</p>


Sleek Exterior

<p>Depending on your taste, the exterior design of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 could be the reason you want it or the reason you won’t consider it. Love it or hate it, we always welcome something that looks different from anything else on the road. The dome-shaped Ioniq 6 certainly makes a statement, and it&#8217;s tweaked for 2026 with a more horizontal light signature, a reworked rear spoiler, new wheel designs, and a sporty-looking new N-Line trim.</p>

<p><strong>Frugal efficiency</strong><br />
Yes, every electric vehicle is efficient compared to a similar gas-powered vehicle. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is stunningly efficient, even by EV standards. Its efficient motors and aerodynamic design get the most out of the electrons in the battery, which translates to cheap fuel costs.</p>
<p><strong>Fast charging</strong><br />
Many EVs have DC fast charging, but the Ioniq 6 has an almost unbeatable max charging speed of 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes in ideal conditions. With Level 2 charging at home, it can reliably charge to 100% overnight.</p>
<p><strong>Dual panoramic displays</strong><br />
The Hyundai Ioniq 6&#8217;s cabin features a large, rectangular display housing a digital gauge cluster and a central infotainment screen, which lends a high-tech look and feel. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.</p>
<p><strong>Highway Driving Assist</strong><br />
Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist system isn’t hands-free, but it’s one of the most natural-feeling driving assist systems of its kind. It safely keeps you centered in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you while you keep a light hand on the wheel.</p>
<p><strong>One-pedal driving</strong><br />
This is a common function with electric vehicles, where the brake regeneration is at its highest, allowing the driver to slow down and come to a complete stop just by lifting off the accelerator. This system is smooth and natural in the Ioniq 6. It’s an effective way to drive an electric car, and it soon becomes second nature.</p>
<p><strong>Over-the-air updates</strong><br />
The Ioniq 6 can be improved after purchase with these remote software updates; no fussing around with flash drives or dealer appointments.</p>


High-Tech Interior

<p>Hyundai says the interior of the Ioniq 6 maintains a &#8220;Mindful Cocoon&#8221; concept. Whatever that means, we like this interior, which gets even better for 2026 with a new 3-spoke steering wheel and more premium materials on the door panels. The controls have a good balance of hard buttons and switches for things like seat climate controls and the parking camera, while infotainment duties are handled by a crisp screen with an intuitive interface.</p>
<p>Rear legroom is adequate at 34.7 inches. The sloping roofline will constrict rear headroom for taller types, but it’s less of an issue for the average adult. Trunk space measures 11.2 cubic feet, enough for a couple of golf bags, but pretty small for a sedan this size. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 has about the same rear legroom, an extra inch of rear headroom, and 21 cubic feet of luggage area.</p>


<p>The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was already a great electric sedan, and it’s getting even better for 2026. It features a sleek, refreshed design that maintains its unique shape while updating the wheels, light signature, and rear spoiler. A few of the things we love about the Hyundai Ioniq 6 are its near-class-leading efficiency (which gives it some of the lowest fuel costs of any new car), pleasant driving manners, long warranty coverage, and cutting-edge technology. The 2026 refresh also adds a sporty N-Line trim and a high-performance Ioniq 6 N to the lineup, which we’ll review separately.</p>

<p>Most Hyundai Ioniq 6 models are equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack, but the base Standard Range rear-wheel-drive model uses a smaller 53 kWh battery. The longer-range battery is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the latter models get slightly worse efficiency and range than their front-wheel-drive counterparts.</p>
<p>Range isn’t everything when it comes to EVs; efficiency is what determines your fuel costs, i.e., how much your car adds to your electric bill. In this category, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is among the best EVs. If its efficiency ratings for the 2026 model are the same as the 2025 model, it will return as much as 135 combined MPGe with rear-wheel drive and 121 combined MPGe with all-wheel drive. According to <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a> estimates, its monthly fuel costs can go as low as about $46.</p>
<h3>5-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
<p>The Ioniq 6 enjoys class-leading warranties. Hyundai’s excellent coverage includes a 5-year/60,000-mile (whichever happens first) basic warranty, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain and battery warranties, five years of roadside assistance (with no mile limit), and a 3-year/36,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan.</p>
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
<p>The Ioniq 6 has earned the highest accolade of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and a 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.</p>


What's new for 2026

<p>The Hyundai Ioniq 6 just came out in 2023, and it’s already receiving an <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-hyundai-ioniq-6-gets-even-more-dramatic-style/">aesthetic refresh inside and out for 2026</a>. It retains its distinct shape and gets a thinner, more horizontally oriented light signature, new wheel designs, and a sporty N-Line trim with unique front and rear fascias and more dark lower cladding. Inside, there’s a new 3-spoke steering wheel, more physical buttons and switches, and nicer materials on the door panels. Also, a hot new <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/hyundai-teases-high-performance-ioniq-6-n/">Ioniq 6 N sports sedan is on the way</a>, which we’ll review separately.</p>

<p>Composed and comfortable, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG EQS puts a lot of electric power into a large luxury sedan.</p>


<p>For most people, the 649 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque developed by the AMG EQS should be perfectly ample for rapid, smooth, near-silent progress. But this is an AMG car, where more is always better. A standard Race Start feature means a temporary boost to 751 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque, enabling a sprint from standstill to 60 mph in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds, a tenth quicker than the BMW i7 M70 xDrive.</p>
<p>The AMG EQS has all-wheel drive as standard, although the most powerful of the two electric motors is located at the back, so there’s still a sporty, rear-drive kind of flavor to the dynamics, especially in Sport and Sport+ modes.</p>
<p>An AMG-tuned adaptive air suspension is standard, enabling a range of settings from supple to sporty. Another standard feature is rear-wheel steering, which we’ve found to work well as it enhances maneuverability and adds a certain athleticism that makes this full-size car feel smaller than it really is.</p>
<p>This year, Mercedes-Benz has given the regenerative braking system extra attention. It recovers more energy than before, contributing to a better range, and there’s a more natural feel to the brake pedal. Speaking of natural, we could live without the fake whooshing sounds coming through the audio system when accelerating. We are of a mind to switch them off.</p>
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
<p>Maximum range of the 2025 AMG EQS is estimated at 315 miles. That beats the BMW i7 M70 xDrive’s 285 miles. We’ve noticed with all-electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz that their ranges in real-life driving are close to the quoted figures.</p>
<p>When replenishing the battery, it takes about 31 minutes to go from 10% to 80% using a DC fast charger. Not the fastest in the class, but we’d still call it acceptable.</p>


Efficient Exterior

<p>We understand that not everyone will love the enhanced aerodynamic look of the AMG EQS, but just understanding the reason behind it goes a long way to acceptance. Then there are typical AMG design cues like the vertical slats in the “grille” (not that this car needs a grille as such, with no engine to cool) and the large air intakes for the front brakes.</p>


<p><strong>Hyperscreen</strong><br />
A standard feature in the AMG EQS, this spectacular dash-wide creation contains a 12.3-inch LED instrument cluster and two OLED touchscreens — one (17.7 inches) for general infotainment, the other (12.3 inches) for the front passenger.</p>
<p><strong>Parktronic with Active Park Assist</strong><br />
In a big car like the AMG EQS, we think some help with parking is always welcome. This standard feature can scan for suitable spaces (parallel or perpendicular), then maneuver the car into and subsequently out of them.</p>
<p><strong>Active Steering Assist</strong><br />
A lot of our driving time is spent on less-than-thrilling freeway stretches, which is where this bit of standard cleverness comes in. Used in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, it keeps the car in the center of its lane and will also negotiate those gentle curves.</p>
<p><strong>Burmester audio</strong><br />
This is one of our absolute favorite automotive audio systems, especially with the Dolby Atmos feature that really brings out the detail. This 15-speaker/710-watt surround-sound setup comes standard in the AMG EQS.</p>
<p><strong>Pinnacle trim</strong><br />
Just because this is an AMG doesn’t mean it can’t cosset its rear passengers as well as any other EQS. Choosing this package brings heated/ventilated/massaging rear seats, and even rear-seat neck heating.</p>
<p><strong>Carbon ceramic front brakes</strong><br />
With so much power, speed and weight in the AMG EQS, we’d be tempted to go for this option that installs fade-free, warp-resistant, long-lasting brake discs.</p>


Opulent and Ergonomic Interior

<p>Because the AMG EQS is the go-faster version of a large luxury (all-electric) car, we find plenty of high-quality materials in the cabin, all put together with superb craftsmanship. Tech levels are high and many functions will respond to voice commands, even the massaging seats. And there’s plenty of space in both rows. If we were going to drive an electric car from coast to coast, the AMG EQS would be our first choice.</p>
<p>There’s even a decent amount of cargo space and versatility, because the AMG EQS has a hatchback instead of the usual sedan trunk, along with split/folding rear seats.</p>


<p>Six letters, three stories. Aficionados of <a href="http://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> know that AMG is the company’s high-performance wing with a tradition of taking regular M-B vehicles and transforming them into breathtaking driver’s machines. EQ, meanwhile, indicates electric power. And S evokes the S-Class, the archetypal Mercedes, the top dog among large luxury sedans.</p>
<p>The AMG EQS isn’t an S-Class with prodigious electric propulsion, however. It’s based on the EQS, a separate large luxury 4-door built specifically for voltage-derived velocity. This entails a more aerodynamic exterior design to help maximize range, while also packing a navigation system that takes charging requirements into account.</p>

<p>The closest rival is the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i7/">BMW i7</a> — particularly the M70 xDrive, which is pricier than this AMG. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lucid/air/">Lucid Air</a> in Grand Touring trim isn’t quite as sport-oriented, yet still incredibly powerful and more affordable. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/model-s/">Tesla Model S</a> Plaid is even cheaper.</p>

<p>Mercedes-Benz proclaims a “new generation of battery technology” for the upgraded 118-kilowatt-hour (kWh) power pack in the 2025 AMG EQS. This is on the high side of battery capacity, helping the AMG EQS move past the 300-mile range barrier — quite impressive for a car with this much muscle.</p>
<p>The non-AMG <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqs/">Mercedes-Benz EQS</a> is reviewed separately.</p>
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
<p>Mercedes-Benz has new-vehicle coverage that’s typical for German luxury marques, with a warranty lasting four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. Electric components fare better, protected for 10 years or 155,000 miles.</p>
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
<p>The EQS (on which this AMG EQS is based) has not been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, which is quite common with ultra-luxury vehicles. However, it did earn a maximum overall score of five stars from the Euro NCAP program. The array of standard driver assistance features in the AMG EQS covers just about everything.</p>


What's new for 2025

<p>An upgraded battery pushes maximum range another 10 miles over last year’s best of 305 miles. The braking system has also received attention for a more natural feel to the pedal. A center airbag between the two front seats becomes standard, along with soft-closing doors. And owners can now use their phone instead of the usual key.</p>

<p><strong>The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of America’s favorite midsize SUVs, and it’s getting a refresh for 2026. We expect pricing to start at about $39,000.</strong></p>
<p>The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most trusted names in midsize SUVs. This midsize SUV is available in three variants: the standard 2-row model with a regular gas engine, the longer 3-row <a href="https://www.kbb.com/jeep/grand-cherokee-l/">Grand Cherokee L</a>, and the plug-in hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/jeep/grand-cherokee-4xe/">Grand Cherokee 4xe</a>. This menu of options will continue into the 2026 model year as the Grand Cherokee gets an aesthetic refresh and likely some new technology. Details of the 2026 updates are limited to two teaser images; here’s what we know so far.</p>
<h3>Updated Exterior and Interior</h3>
<p>The 3-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L came out in 2021, and the two-row Grand Cherokee got a similar redesign for 2022. Now, Jeep is <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/jeep-teases-refreshed-2026-grand-cherokee/">teasing a mid-cycle refresh</a> for the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, giving glimpses of what the updated exterior and interior will look like.</p>
<p>The front end gets a pretty significant redesign to the lower front fascia, with a painted section splitting the lower grille in two. The upper grille will continue Jeep’s iconic seven-slat motif, but with new chrome inserts and sharper angles. Also, the light signature now has a more dramatic curve to its LED signature lighting.</p>

<p>On the inside, the center console is reworked with a new bank of HVAC control buttons below the central infotainment screen. It also has smaller audio control knobs mounted higher up on either side of the screen. The available front passenger screen appears to have gotten a bit bigger, as well.</p>
<p>That’s about all we can glean from the two images shared by Jeep so far &#8211; we’ll update this preview as more information becomes available.</p>


<p>We expect the pricing of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee to start at around $39,000. A loaded Summit Reserve model will likely begin at about $65,000.</p>

<p>The sporty and high-tech 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback brings a versatile and stylish new body to one of our favorite compact cars.</p>


<p>The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback is powered by a 147-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). In our time driving the K4 sedan, we were surprised, very pleasantly, that this base engine provides more oomph than expected. We reckon it will be more than fine for most K4 drivers&#8217; needs. And there’s always the Sport mode to further liven things up.</p>
<p>Also available is a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder rated at 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. In our testing of the sedan version of the Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo, we found it an invigorating partner. This powertrain made short work of the Texas Hill Country where we tested it extensively, with power always readily available to tackle elevation changes and passing maneuvers on narrow two-lane roads. The GT-Line trims also appeal to those who like to have a little more fun behind the wheel, thanks to their sport-tuned suspension and quicker steering ratio.</p>
<p>Overall, the K4’s ride quality is taut yet compliant, and we found it a fun partner for running errands and longer highway treks alike. We expect ride quality, braking, and handling in the K4 Hatchback to be quite similar to the K4 sedan.</p>
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
<p>Using the Kia K4 sedan as a measuring stick, we expect the Kia K4 Hatchback to get around 34 mpg in combined city/highway driving with the base engine and about 29 mpg combined with the optional turbo engine.</p>


Sporty Design

<p>This won’t come as a surprise, but the Kia K4 Hatchback looks just like the K4 sedan, except it’s a hatchback. But there’s more to it than just a flatter roof. The hatchback’s overall length is 11 inches shorter than the sedan’s. That means it gives you more space in the garage while yielding cargo room and the same rear legroom compared to its sedan counterpart. Hatchbacks simply have tidier packaging than sedans, which is why we’re happy to see the K4 get a hatchback variant.</p>


<p><strong>Tons of cargo room</strong><br />
Who needs an SUV? The K4 Hatchback has 22.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind the back seats and 59.3 cubic feet of max cargo space with those seats folded down. That’s comparable to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/soul/">Kia Soul</a> SUV.</p>
<p><strong>Nearly 30 inches of screen</strong><br />
Dual 12.3-inch displays with a 5-inch HVAC control screen in between them make for one big rectangular display that gives the K4 Hatchback’s interior a high-tech look and feel. It all integrates nicely for a pleasant user experience.</p>
<p><strong>Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto</strong><br />
Cable-free phone integration is standard across the 2026 K4 Hatchback range. We find this feature wonderfully convenient.</p>
<p><strong>Turbo option</strong><br />
The available 190-hp turbocharged engine in the Kia K4 Hatchback adds extra excitement to this sensible compact car. It’s easy to recommend if you want one car that’s fun, practical, and reasonably affordable.</p>
<p><strong>Hey, Kia</strong><br />
This is how to activate the K4’s digital assistant. Settings like cabin temperature and audio functions can be controlled with voice commands. It can also provide information on sports scores, owner’s manual information, and much more. It will even listen for follow-up questions.</p>
<p><strong>Driver assist tech</strong><br />
Just a few standard driver assistance tech features in the K4 Hatchback include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. Additional options include the Highway Driving Assist 2 system, evasive steering assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, and more.</p>


Versatile Interior

<p>We were impressed with the Kia K4’s interior when the sedan version debuted, and it’s largely the same in the K4 Hatchback. The obvious difference is in the cargo area, which has 22.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seats and 59.3 cubic feet of max cargo room with those seats folded down. For reference, the K4 sedan has a 14.6-cubic-foot trunk. Additionally, the flat roof of the K4 Hatchback gives the rear seats an extra inch of headroom compared to the sedan.</p>
<p>Most of the dashboard — in the higher trims, at least — is taken up by a glass-covered unit that spans almost 30 inches. It accommodates an instrument cluster, climate control adjustment, and infotainment. The rest of the front section is kept neat yet still has a decent number of physical buttons to save the driver from delving into menus. We’ve also noted the conventional gear shifter (instead of a push-button system), which gets our approval.</p>
<p>We appreciate that two USB-C charging ports come standard in the back so rear passengers can keep devices charged. If you want rear air vents, though, you have to step up to the top GT-Line Turbo.</p>


<p>The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/k4/">Kia K4</a> came out for the 2025 model year as the brand’s all-new compact sedan, replacing the old Kia Forte. Now, for 2026, an all-new Kia K4 Hatchback arrives on the scene, adding extra versatility and cargo space to an already great formula. It has the same engine options as the K4 sedan, which range from efficient to perky, and has the class-leading warranty coverage we love about Kia. Meanwhile, its technology and interior quality might make it feel like you’re driving a more expensive car. The K4 Hatchback is set to arrive in late 2025.</p>


<p>We expect the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback to start at about $25,000, including destination fee. A loaded GT-Line model with the turbocharged engine will likely start in the low-$30K range.</p>

Engine and Transmission

<p>The base engine in the K4 Hatchback is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit making 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. It uses a CVT automatic transmission. GT-Line Turbo models use a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder making 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. All 2026 K4 variants are front-wheel drive.</p>
<h3>Class-Leading Warranty</h3>
<p>Kia’s warranties are among the best available. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first — this includes roadside assistance. Powertrains are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles.</p>
<h3>Safety</h3>
<p>The sedan variant of the Kia K4 has a 5-Star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) and achieves Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.</p>


<p>The Kia K4 Hatchback is all-new for the 2026 model year, following the K4 sedan’s debut for the 2025 model year.</p>

<p>The Ford Explorer boasts a 3-row interior, good engine options, and a variety of trims that includes the sporty ST and the rugged Tremor.</p>

<p>The 2026 Ford Explorer is propelled by a 300-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder engine matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). We like this engine&#8217;s blend of peppy performance and good fuel economy, but some rivals have more refined power delivery. Rear-wheel drive is uncommon in this class, and it lends a decidedly sporty driving experience to the Explorer for a family SUV. Even when it&#8217;s equipped with all-wheel drive, the rear-bias is noticeable and welcome.</p>
<p>The Explorer&#8217;s base engine makes the most sense for most drivers, but the enthusiast in us loves the optional 400-horsepower twin-turbo V6 &#8211; it&#8217;s simply one of our favorite engines in this class. It&#8217;s optional in the Platinum and Tremor trims and standard in the ST. The ST model brings more performance upgrades like a sport-tuned suspension system and upgraded brakes, but we&#8217;ve found its steering to be less-than-sporty for what is supposed to be a performance vehicle.</p>
<p>But let&#8217;s remember that the Ford Explorer is a 3-row family SUV, so how does it do in eating up miles on the highway? Long-distance highway comfort is a strong suit of the Explorer. Its suspension is compliant and comfortable, and noise levels are reasonably quiet. One of our favorite features of the Explorer is BlueCruise, a hands-free highway driving system that&#8217;s standard in all but the base Active trim. With BlueCruise, you can keep your hands off the wheel and your eyes on the road on more than 130,000 miles of North American highways. It feels natural and is one of our favorite hands-free systems of its kind.</p>
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
<p>The Ford Explorer’s 24 mpg in combined city-and-highway driving is near the top of its class for gas-only models. That’s with rear-wheel drive. Opting for all-wheel drive will drop that combined figure to 23 mpg. The available turbo V6 returns up to 21 combined mpg and still runs on regular-grade gas, keeping fuel costs reasonable. Premium isn&#8217;t required, but recommended for maximum performance in the ST.</p>
