The last generation of the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid (which, for years, was called the RAV4 Prime) was like a secret weapon in Toyota’s lineup, and it was the kind of sleeper driving enthusiasts love. That’s because it had 302 hp and could do zero to 60 mph in a swift 5.7 seconds. This all-new one is even better.
The 2026 version of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid now has 320 hp and is estimated to travel up to 50 miles on battery power alone – eight more than the prior version. As before, you also get all-wheel drive as standard, which helps with performance and traction in foul weather.
That grip will also surely be utilized in the two new trims of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid: Woodland and GR Sport. We’ve seen a Woodland before, and it’s the more outdoorsy sibling with all-terrain tires and a taller ride height. The GR Sport looks to be the wild child and is a first for the RAV4 lineup. It represents the most performance-oriented version of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.
<h3>Fuel economy</h3>
Toyota has yet to release numbers on the efficiency of the new hybrid powertrain in the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, but has estimated it can travel up to 50 miles on battery power alone. That would be eight miles beyond the class-leading numbers of the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in, making this new one all the more a viable alternative to an all-electric vehicle. Of course, the beauty of a plug-in hybrid is that once the juice runs out in the battery, there’s a gasoline engine to power your travels as far and as wide as you’d like to travel.

Fresh Yet Familiar Exterior

The 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid keeps a similar silhouette as the outgoing model but has enough new traits to make it look fresh. We think Toyota did a great balancing act here.
The well-known angular profile and smaller details like the horizontal black line across the D-pillar remain. Even the dimensions are the same: 180.9 inches in length for most models, though the Woodland and GR Sport variants stretch to 181.8.
Also returning is the option for two-tone paint options, including the new Meteor Shower with a black roof on the XSE trim or the GR Sport’s exclusive pairing of Supersonic Red with a black roof.
A sweeping fascia spans the front, and a wide-looking rear bears “RAV4” emblazoned across the middle of the tailgate.
RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid Woodland models portray a more adventurous image with a bit more ground clearance, all-terrain tires, Rigid Industries LED lighting, and roof rails with crossbars.

50 miles battery range: If Toyota’s estimated battery-only driving range holds up, it will easily beat the 30-ish miles that the best of its competitors can do. With that kind of range, fuel fill-ups can be even less frequent.
GR Sport: Getting its GR name from Toyota’s Gazoo Racing department, this first-of-its-kind performance model for the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid spices things up with sport-tuned suspension and steering, added body rigidity, summer tires, and more.
Standard all-wheel drive: Along with a potent powertrain and exceptional driving range, standard all-wheel drive only adds to the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid’s attractiveness.
Toyota Safety Sense 4.0: The latest and greatest version of Toyota’s active safety suite debuts in the 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. Details are still forthcoming, but even version 3.0 wowed us with features like its Proactive Driving Assist.

The 2026 RAV4’s 5-passenger interior, while all new, continues the Toyota tradition of being sensible and spacious. The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid gets upgrades in the tech department that we are happy to see. All models receive a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the touchscreen at its smallest is 10.5 inches or, optionally, 12.9 inches.
Toyota has made climate controls digital and located them on the touchscreen, with hard controls for changing temperature and defrost settings below the screen itself. There is, however, a physical volume knob in the middle. A head-up display is available on XSE models.
Seating materials range from fabric to Toyota’s sturdy SofTex leather-like material. Color options include black or light gray, or the new Mineral shade in the Woodland trim. XSE and GR Sport models get microsuede and SofTex. GR Sport models are further distinguished with GR logos in the front headrests and steering wheel, paddle shifters, and aluminum sport pedals.
Toyota has yet to reveal the full interior specs of the new 2026 RAV4, but seeing as its exterior dimensions are the same as those of the outgoing model, which had generous cargo and passenger room for its class, we predict those positive traits will carry over.

In this case, by more, we mean more power – up to 320 horsepower – and more efficiency thanks to the ability to drive up to 50 miles on battery power alone. Like the standard 2026 RAV4 that we review separately, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is all new for the 2026 model year. In addition to boasting more power and range than the prior generation, this one has fresh looks, the latest technology, and for the first time, will be available as a performance model called the GR Sport edition or an outdoorsy variant called the Woodland.
The choice of plug-in hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/suv/best-compact-suvs/">compact SUVs</a> is still a bit limited, but the 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid looks to bring its A game to plug-in hybrid variants of the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The field of plug-in hybrid compact SUVs is relatively small, but there are a few rivals to the RAV4 PHEV. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid comes standard with a gas-electric powertrain that marries a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and battery-fed electric motor. While even the standard RAV4 is now a hybrid, the plug-in version has a larger battery pack that allows for up to 50 miles of electric-only driving.
The “plug-in” part means you recharge the battery from a power receptacle that can range from a standard household power outlet to a 240-volt Level 2 charger. RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid XSE and Woodland models get a high-speed CCS charging port, while SE and GR Sport models use a J1772. We’re still awaiting word on charge time estimates.
The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid has standard all-wheel drive and up to 320 combined horsepower — a seriously impressive number. It can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Toyota’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. This is typical for the class. Hybrid components have a warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles, and the hybrid battery is protected for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, plus two years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.
The 2026 RAV4 also includes ToyotaCare, which covers factory-scheduled maintenance for two years/25,000 miles, whichever comes first, along with two years of roadside assistance.

Although the 2026 Toyota RAV4 has yet to be crash tested, we know that, like all new Toyota products, it will feature a robust suite of active safety and driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is all-new, packing a standard hybrid powertrain, a wide choice of models, and the latest tech and safety features.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 now comes exclusively with a gas-electric powertrain. In addition to bringing superior fuel economy over a standard gasoline engine, this setup actually has more power than both the outgoing gas RAV4 and prior RAV4 Hybrid models. It’s also available with front-wheel drive (FWD) for the first time as a hybrid, in addition to all-wheel drive (AWD).
Front-drive models have a combined 226 horsepower, while all-wheel-drive versions make 236 hp. These numbers beat the old peaks of 203 and 219 hp, respectively, of the prior RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid, not to mention current competitors.
We’ve tested this powertrain extensively in the Camry sedan and were simply wowed by how good it is. There was always plenty of power — more than plenty, actually — and excellent fuel efficiency. We hope for and anticipate a similar experience in the new RAV4.
Fuel economy
Toyota has yet to release numbers on the efficiency of the new hybrid powertrain in the RAV4, but we expect them to be good. The prior RAV4 Hybrid achieved up to 39 mpg in combined city/highway driving.

Familiar Exterior

The 2026 RAV4 looks like a masterclass in revamping a vehicle’s design, yet also keeping it familiar. To wit, the new RAV4 maintains its angular profile in general and smaller details like the horizontal black line across the D-pillar. It even keeps the exact length as the outgoing model — 180.9 inches. Yet, the 2026 model is fresher, too, with a sweeping front fascia and wide-looking rear with RAV4 emblazoned in capital letters across the middle of the tailgate.
Toyota classifies the 2026 RAV4 into three unique designs: Core, Rugged, and Sport, with each aesthetic bringing distinct traits. For example, the Woodland trim, which represents the Rugged design theme, is a half-inch higher, thanks to standard all-terrain tires. Also, it comes with raised roof rails and features integrated LED lighting from Rigid Industries. Core models include the LE, XLE, and Limited trims, and Sport is home to the SE and XSE trims. Wheel sizes for the new RAV4 range from 17 to 20 inches. As before, two-tone color schemes with a black roof are available.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that marries a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and battery-fed electric motor. Toyota arguably has the best such hybrid systems on the market, and has been making them for decades — remember, it created the Prius. The hybrid system on the 2026 RAV4 is its latest version and marks its fifth-gen debut on an SUV.
For the first time, a RAV4 Hybrid can be had with front-wheel drive in addition to the familiar all-wheel drive. Front-drive versions make a combined 226 hp, while all-wheel-drive models output 236 hp. Toyota’s hybrid systems send power to the wheels using a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Toyota’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, which is typical for the class. Hybrid components have a warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles; the hybrid battery is protected for 10 years or 150,000 miles.
The 2026 RAV4 also includes ToyotaCare, which covers factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and two years of roadside assistance without a mileage limit.
Safety Ratings
Although the 2026 Toyota RAV4 has yet to be crash-tested, we know that, like all new Toyota vehicles, it will feature a robust suite of active safety and driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

The 2025 Maserati Grecale is a sporty, almost-exotic compact luxury SUV with a great blend of luxury and technology, plus a touch of something out of the ordinary.

Power, Ride and Handling

From the base model up, the Grecale offers plenty of power and performance. The base Grecale and the Grecale Modena share a 2.0-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid drivetrain developing a punchy 325 horsepower. The new base engine replaces last year’s 296-hp non-hybrid unit. Maserati says this setup can take either trim from standstill to 60 mph in five seconds, on the way to a top speed of 149 mph.
Higher up, the Trofeo employs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 generating 523 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (with launch control) and a top speed of 177 mph. That’s more power and quicker acceleration than even the most muscular combustion-powered Porsche Macan.
The all-electric Grecale Folgore adds even more power, but backs off a bit on the performance — four seconds in the sprint from zero to 60 mph and a top speed of 137 mph. That’s comparable to the Porsche Macan 4S Electric, which hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and generates 509 hp.
Other performance enhancements available in the Grecale range include a limited-slip rear differential (Modena models), and an electronic locking rear differential (Trofeo models).
Fuel Economy
The 2025 Grecale gets reasonably good gas mileage for its class and performance. The base and Modena models score the same 24 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The Trofeo’s big power output makes it less efficient at 20 mpg combined, but still capable of 25 mpg on the highway. For the best efficiency in the Grecale range, look no further than the all-electric Folgore. Even there, however, you’ll have a choice of 21-inch wheels, which reduce total range to 206 miles and efficiency to 62 MPGe, or 20-inch wheels, which are good for 245 miles of range and 75 MPGe.
For comparison, the BMW X3 achieves 29 mpg combined, the Lexus RX gets 24 mpg combined, and the Range Rover Velar manages 23 mpg combined.

Modern Exterior

Sleek, sporty, and of-the-moment, the Grecale’s look also aims at timelessness. While that remains to be seen, it’s undeniably attractive now, provided you’re a fan of Maserati’s aesthetics. The grille sports the iconic trident emblem, and the classic triple fender vents are another nod to Maseratis of yore, but the primary look is one of modern luxury, solidity, and an edge of sportiness.
The addition of a range of new colors for 2025 means the Grecale’s look is more customizable than ever, even before the in-house boutique options of the Fuoriserie line.
