The 2026 Kia K5 is powered by a 191-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional exclusively with the GT-Line trim. The performance of the K5 with its base engine is pretty par for the course for a midsize sedan. It does everything it&#8217;s realistically asked to do in daily commuting, from quick maneuvers in city driving to the occasional semi-truck pass on the highway. Even with kids in the back, we&#8217;ve found this engine to be more than adequate.
But maybe you have an appetite for something a little sportier in a practical daily driver. Enter the K5 GT, powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder pumping out 290 horsepower, significantly boosting the fun factor without sacrificing practicality. The K5 GT is a veritable sport sedan at a much more affordable price point than a luxury sedan with similar performance specs. In addition to the engine upgrade, other enhancements include a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, quad-tip exhaust, and paddle shifters.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The 2026 Kia K5 returns up to 26 city/37 highway/30 combined mpg with the base engine and front-wheel drive. Upgrading to all-wheel drive or the turbo engine in the GT trim brings the combined rating down to 27 mpg.
Notably, the Kia K5 and the Nissan Altima are the only midsize sedans in this class for 2026 that do not come with a hybrid option. The Toyota Camry comes exclusively as a hybrid, which gets up to 51 combined mpg, while the hybrid versions of the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata get up to 48 mpg and 47 mpg, respectively. Even when compared to the most efficient versions of its non-hybrid rivals, the Kia K5&#8217;s efficiency ratings are on the low side of this class.

Kia has been on the cutting edge in recent years when it comes to offering the latest and greatest infotainment technology in mainstream  cars, and the K5 is no exception. A 12.3-inch display and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay come standard on every trim, and the upper trims get extras like navigation and Bose audio.
K5 GT 
Genuinely sporty variants of mainstream midsize sedans are becoming a thing of the past as hybrids become more popular. The Kia K5 GT keeps the faith with a hearty turbo engine pumping out 290 hp and 311 pound-feet of torque, along with upgraded brakes and suspension, topped off by a sporty appearance package.
Highway Driving Assist 
Kia&#8217;s Highway Driving Assist is one of our favorite semi-autonomous highway driving systems of its kind. It&#8217;s not hands-free, but it&#8217;s one of the most natural-feeling systems for keeping you centered in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you while you keep a light hand on the wheel.
All-wheel drive

We’ve said it many times before and will no doubt repeat it many times in the future, but Kia interiors feel more expensive than they are. The designs, shapes, materials, and build quality all contribute to an excellent overall package. The interior&#8217;s centerpiece is a panoramic display with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, which is home to the car&#8217;s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features. The climate and infotainment controls sharing a control panel takes some getting used to; drivers who prefer physical knobs and switches might not like this layout. However, we appreciate the old-fashioned, console-mounted shifter rather than buttons or dials handling shifting duties.
We’ve found the seats sufficiently comfortable, but it took some of our editors a bit more adjusting than usual to find an ideal driving position. The back seats are reasonably roomy with 35.2 inches of legroom, but the Camry and Accord have more adult-friendly rear seating. The K5’s 16-cubic-foot trunk is among the roomiest in the class, although they’re all pretty similar in that regard.

The GT variant employs a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, creating 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Both engines link up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is the standard setup, although the GT-Line (with the 191-horsepower engine) offers the option of all-wheel drive.

Kia’s warranties are among the best available. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first — this includes roadside assistance. Powertrains are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Although once named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), updated tests have downgraded the Kia K5. It took top marks of Good in most crash-test categories, except for a Poor rating in the front overlap test and a Marginal in the side impact test. The 2026 Honda Civic is powered by a 200-horsepower hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with two electric motors, an e-CVT automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. This setup has 50 more horsepower than the base engine in the non-hybrid Civic, and it even has more torque than the lively Civic Si. With better fuel economy and better performance, the Civic’s gas-electric hybrid powertrain is easy to recommend.
Honda added extra sound deadening to the hybrid version of the Civic to give it quiet and composed driving manners, helping to drown out some of the noisiness that’s still inherent in hybrids. Honda hasn’t forgotten its roots; it also tuned the steering and suspension of the Civic Hybrid to be a little more fun and dynamic than the average commuter car.
The Civic Hybrid’s small size and nimbleness make it easy to maneuver around town and allow it to slot into parking spaces that would be challenging for cars just one size class larger. We’ve also found that highway miles pass quickly in this Honda, particularly when the standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance do some of the work.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of up to 50 city/47 highway/49 combined mpg. The hatchback variant is slightly less efficient, returning 48 mpg combined. For reference, the non-hybrid version of the Civic gets up to 36 mpg.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a max combined fuel economy rating of 47 mpg, and the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid gets up to 54 mpg in mixed driving. The Toyota Prius is still the efficiency king of this class, netting up to 57 combined mpg.

Sporty Exterior

Every Honda Civic Hybrid comes with the sport appearance package that’s optional on the non-hybrid Civic. It adds a stylish edge to this practical hybrid and hints at its surprisingly eager performance. We love that the Civic Hybrid has two body styles available: a sedan and a hatchback.

Sedan or hatchback 
Some people like a sedan’s lockable trunk; others prefer the ability to carry trickier cargo — like a bicycle, for example — that comes with a hatchback. We’re just glad the Civic Hybrid — like the combustion-only version — offers both.
Honda Sensing 
Every 2026 Civic Hybrid comes with this array of safety features. Among the many functions are forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and road-departure mitigation. Because the Civic Hybrid comes in above the base level of the wider Civic range, it also has blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Quiet time 
Honda made sure the hybrid version is the quietest of the Civic range, with Active Noise Control and plenty of sound insulation, plus special wheels on the top Sport Touring trim.
Driving modes 
We always appreciate having a car that can adapt to different demands. The Civic Hybrid has Econ, Normal, and Sport driving modes, while the Sport Touring trim adds an Individual setting for drivers to select their own combination. One clever little touch is that Econ driving mode not only softens throttle response, it also puts climate control into its most economical setting.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto 
These highly useful phone integration features are standard across the 2026 Civic lineup. They&#8217;re wireless in the Sport Touring version.
Bose audio 
The Civic Sport Touring adds this 12-speaker premium sound system to make the Civic Hybrid feel closer to a luxury car. The Bose Centerpoint technology creates a surround-sound effect for a more immersive listening experience.

Roomy Interior

We’re impressed by the Civic Hybrid&#8217;s interior, with its cool metal mesh strip going across the dashboard and the available phone charging pad. We also appreciate how roomy this is for a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/cars/best-compact-cars/">compact car</a>, where adults can fit in the back quite comfortably, thanks to near-class-leading 37.4 inches of legroom. Up front, we enjoyed our time in the top Sport Touring trim, noticing the soft touch points under our elbows and the well-cushioned seats. There&#8217;s no lumbar adjustment, though, so anyone with back issues might need to keep this in mind.
The Civic Hybrid is in a pricier section of the overall Civic spectrum. The highest Sport Touring trim comes with a Google-based infotainment system offering an array of tech features such as voice commands and third-party apps, plus a 9-inch touchscreen with crisp graphics. The lower Sport trim has a 7-inch screen, which is on the small side.
Some hybrids have smaller trunks than their combustion-only counterparts (to accommodate the battery), but Honda has mastered these packaging challenges. The Civic Hybrid enjoys the same trunk as the regular Civic, measuring 14.8 cubic feet, which is class-leading for a compact sedan. The hatchback has almost 10 cubic feet of extra cargo space compared with the sedan, and even more when the back seats are folded.

The Honda Civic Hybrid made a comeback for the 2025 model year, and we couldn’t be happier that it’s back. It takes the winning formula of the regular Civic (<a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic/">reviewed separately</a>) and makes it much more fuel-efficient, netting up to 49 mpg in mixed driving. The frugal Civic Hybrid also turns up the performance, with more torque than the sporty Civic Si. Meanwhile, it gets the basics right, which earns the Civic our <a href="https://www.kbb.com/awards/best-buy-awards-2025-honda-civic-compact-car/">Best Buy Award</a>, like a spacious interior, modern tech, fun driving dynamics, and class-leading resale value. The drivetrain in the 2026 Civic Hybrid uses two electric motors and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder combustion engine to generate a total of 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. That’s more torque than the enthusiast-focused Civic Si (which has 192 lb-ft to accompany its 200 horses). In terms of output, the new Civic Hybrid beats rivals like the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid and Toyota Corolla Hybrid, while also having an edge over the Toyota Prius.
An e-CVT automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels only. The lack of an all-wheel drive (AWD) option normally wouldn’t bother us much, but it’s worth noting that AWD is available in both the Toyota Prius and the Toyota Corolla Hybrid.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Honda’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, with the hybrid battery having its own warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers. Free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles is also included.

This generation of Civic Sedan has earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and a 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). At 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, most Defender seekers opt for the P400 drivetrain, which gives them great power at a relatively affordable price. It also compares well to the Lexus GX (349 hp). You can still opt for less, 296 hp, in the P300.
Driving off-road might not be something you do every day, but rest assured, you’ll be able to regardless. Your daily commute will also be pleasurable as the Defender’s on-road manners and poise impressed us. Unlike the Jeep Wrangler or even the Toyota Land Cruiser, both off-road titans, the Defender easily outclasses both competitors, especially with its optional air suspension. And even if the Defender doesn’t quite approach the cushioned elegance of a Range Rover, we’ve found there’s still great body control and ample refinement.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
Defender owners can expect to achieve around 20 mpg combined with the 6-cylinder engines. That compares well enough against something like the Lexus GX 550.

2026 Land Rover 130

Long Drink of Water

While it might not be as proportionally as pleasing to the eye as the shorter versions, the Defender 130 still goes long on style. It&#8217;s boxy, upright shape feels iconic and instantly recognizable. There are excellent heritage features all over this vehicle in addition to it being able to tow and get you anywhere you need to go &#8212; yes, even through that river yonder. Beware only of your departure angles as that rear overhang is a doozy.
The 3-row Defender 130 measures out longer than the spacious Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, including the spare wheel attached to the side-opening tailgate. Incidentally, the way the tailgate works is great if you’re a Brit (or Australian, New Zealander, or Japanese) and drive on the left, not so good for Americans because it will open toward the curb.

Infotainment system: Crisp graphics on the touchscreen, quick processing, overall user-friendliness, and a Meridian audio system put this setup high in our general rankings.
Driver assistance: Blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system are standard across the 2026 Defender range. As they should be in a luxury vehicle, we could argue, but we appreciate them all the same.

The Defender’s interior design looks simultaneously tough and elegant. The exposed hardware, rivets, and screws paired with soft-touch materials and fabrics work well together. Owners get plenty of storage space in the center console, and we love how the gear shifter is positioned perfectly. If you bring the outdoors inside, Land Rover offers optional deep-sided rubber mats to help protect the otherwise premium cabin.
The Defender 130 can seat up to eight occupants. The seats in the first two rows are comfortable, and the third row accommodates larger adult legs adequately.
Another thing to consider in the 130 is cargo space. For a maximum of 46.9 cubic feet, go for the 2-row-only 130 Outbound.

Less is more might be an expression an understated Brit might say. Not so much with the Land Rover Defender 130. In this case, more definitely is more. Meaning more rear passenger room and more cargo space than in any other Defender. Still highly capable, still full of modern amenities and technological advancements, the Defender 130 makes getting there in style with more gear de rigueur. If you&#8217;re looking for the perfectly proper overlander, consider the Outbound trim, which deletes those third-row seats, allowing for even more cargo space for gear.

Unlike off-road titans, the Jeep Wrangler or even Toyota Land Cruiser, the Defender — especially with its optional air suspension — easily outclasses both competitors. And even if the Defender doesn’t quite approach the cushioned elegance of a Range Rover, we’ve found there’s still great body control and ample refinement.
The Octa version comes with what Land Rover calls 6D Dynamics, meaning control in six dimensions, front and back, side-to-side, and up and down, providing a revolutionary driving experience that’s not for the faint of heart or skill. Dampers are hydraulically linked, keeping the Defender virtually flat under acceleration, braking, and cornering. But a word to the wise, Octa mode also turns off all nannies protecting you from yourself. The laws of physics absolutely apply to this vehicle, so driver beware, because it will not save you from your mistakes. Other drive modes benefit from the 6D setup as it forgoes any stabilizer bar, making it able to maximize suspension travel and axle articulation when negotiating rough ground.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
Defender owners can expect to achieve something between 16 mpg in combined city/highway driving (if they have a V8) and 20 mpg combined with less powerful engines. That compares well enough against something like the Lexus GX 550.

The Defender 110 mimics its ancestors boxy and upright shape while still embracing some softness. This doesn&#8217;t look like the Defenders of old, which might have been designed only using a T-square. It carries traditional touches like its squircle taillights and the Alpine windows for rear passengers to enjoy a little skylight.
While there are no available heritage colors such as Signal Yellow or Tangiers Orange, Land Rover does nod to them with their more subdued color palettes and hues. And of course, you can spec your truck with a traditional white roof and white steel wheels.
The Defender 110 OCTA comes in exclusive Faroe Green for the First Edition or Petra Copper as well as Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey.

Infotainment system: Crisp graphics on the touchscreen, quick processing, overall user-friendliness, and a Meridian audio system put this setup high in our general rankings.
Driver assistance: Blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system are standard across the 2025 Defender range — as they should be in a luxury vehicle, we could argue, but we appreciate them all the same.

Octa Mode: In case we didn’t state it clearly enough up top, Octa Mode takes the Defender to places it maybe shouldn’t go. In the correct driver’s hands, it takes on midengine sports car driving qualities, and drifting or losing the tail end around turns happens in an instant. This is a similar technology that McLaren employs in their cars. So, if you ever wanted to be a rally driver, yes, even in an almost 6,000-pound vehicle, then here’s your chance. When Octa Mode gets engaged, drivers truly take matters into their own hands because all the safety nannies, including traction control, are fully shut off. Commit to your choices or install a roll cage — either way, proceed with caution.
