Driving Impressions

As with many of its rivals, the 2026 GMC Terrain uses a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. But with just 175 horsepower, it is among the least powerful in the segment, second only to the smaller Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. And unfortunately, this is the only choice. Rivals, meanwhile, offer more powerful options or hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Also, consider that the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 not only comes with a hybrid powertrain standard, but it’s more powerful, with a minimum of 226 hp – 51 more ponies than the Terrain.
All this said, we found the Terrain’s driving manners acceptable and on par with what most drivers expect from a compact SUV. While its power is modest, it proved adequate for getting up to speed on the highway and fine for around-town driving. We prefer Terrain models with the all-wheel-drive setup for a couple of reasons. First, they get more torque, which helps with acceleration, and an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) found in front-wheel-drive models. The latter tend to drone. The AT4 and Denali models that come on board for 2026 have this better setup standard, and it’s optional on the base Elevation trim.
Terrain’s driver assistance systems also feel midpack compared to those of its rivals. The adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping works well enough, but subtle changes in speed and lane centering aren’t as smooth as the best systems out there.
Fuel Economy
The 2025 GMC Terrain is EPA-rated at 27 mpg in combined city/highway driving for front-wheel-drive models. All-wheel-drive variants earn 25 mpg combined. Again, these numbers won’t win any awards. With all-wheel drive standard, the Subaru Forester attains up to 29 mpg. A hybrid Honda CR-V with all-wheel drive will get up to 37 mpg, and we predict the all-new Toyota RAV4 with its standard hybrid powertrain will easily reach that number or higher.

Here’s another selling point for the Terrain: This latest generation makes it look even more like an GMC SUV. And by that, we mean it’s got that boxy, rugged personality. This presence is even more prevalent in the AT4 model, given away by its red front tow hooks, front skid plate, and lifted ride height. The Terrain Denali, meanwhile, can’t be missed with its big and bright grille, 19-inch wheels, and – get this – animated headlights and taillights.

Heat and more heat: All 2026 Terrain models come with both heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Owners in cold-weather states will rejoice.
Animated lights: This isn’t quite Pixar levels, but the new GMC Terrain Denali has headlights and taillights that put on a little show upon startup.
Excellent tech: In addition to its massive 15-inch vertical touchscreen, all Terrain models include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Two-tone roof: We’re fond of these distinguishing treatments, and all Terrain models can be had with a contrast-color roof.
Digital rearview mirror: A rear camera mirror is standard on the Denali and optional on the Elevation and AT4. With the flick of a switch, the rear mirror goes from traditional mirror to a screen fed by a rear camera. This means you can see what’s behind you without being impeded by cargo or passengers’ heads.
Rear air vents: As lovers of both dogs and children who don’t get car sick, we love this feature, and even more so that it’s standard in the 2026 Terrain.

The 2026 GMC Terrain’s cabin is a nice place to reside, with an impressive mix of ruggedness and tech. The first thing you’ll likely notice is the 15-inch screen that dominates the dash. Not only is this screen bigger than that of its Chevy Equinox cousin, but it’s vertically oriented, like a giant tablet. Complementing this is an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. Together, these two panels easily display all the info you need and more. We also like that, though there is a lot of touchscreen, there are also physical buttons and a big ol’ volume knob at the bottom.
All trims come standard with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel – certainly a rarity – and the AT4 and Denali trims come with added perks like an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, overhead sunglass storage, and dual-zone climate control. The top-dog Terrain Denali includes ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and perforated leather upholstery. A panoramic sunroof is optional on both the AT4 and Denali trims.
The Terrain’s passenger and cargo space are hardly class-leading, but still workable and practical. For example, rear passengers get a pretty impressive 39.7 inches of legroom, and cargo space is 29.8 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 63.5 with them folded.

The GMC Terrain is now among the freshest choices in compact SUVs, coming off a full revamp just last year. Oddly, though, the all-new Terrain debuted in just a single, base trim. For 2026, though, GMC’s compact SUV triples its choices, moving up to three. Joining the entry-level Elevation trim are the rugged AT4 and premium-leaning Denali trims. Padding the lineup thusly should help the Terrain compete with rivals, but this is still a cutthroat segment that includes household names like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Like its cousin, the Chevrolet Equinox, the GMC Terrain is an adequate compact SUV with a few glints of greatness.

All GMC Terrain models use a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It makes 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque (front-wheel-drive models make 184 lb-ft). An 8-speed automatic transmission is fitted to all-wheel-drive variants, while front-drive models get a continuously variable transmission.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
The GMC Terrain is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. This coverage is average for this segment. Additionally, you get complimentary maintenance on your first visit.
Safety
We’ll have to wait for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to test the redesigned Terrain. But all Terrain models come standard with a host of safety and driver assistance features including forward collision alert with automatic braking, Safety Alert Seat, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The redesigned 2026 Subaru Outback brings more traditional SUV proportions and updated tech while retaining a quirky character and rugged capabilities.

The 2026 Subaru Outback is powered by a 180-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. The Wilderness model and trims with “XT” in their names get an upgrade to a 260-hp turbo 4-cylinder engine, which also has a CVT and AWD.
Under the hood is one area where the new generation of the Subaru Outback is not radically different from the outgoing one. These same engines have almost identical specs as the Outback generation that came out in 2020. In our thorough experience with the outgoing Outback, the base engine’s performance is adequate for the daily driving duties of most commuters and families. However, the enthusiast in us prefers the punchier turbo engine, which is a little less efficient but much more fun.
Another thing we can be pretty sure of is that the new Outback will be an adept off-roader. If it weren’t, it wouldn’t be an Outback. The Subaru Outback has historically offered one of the best balances of off-road capability and on-road comfort of anything with four wheels, and that reputation should continue with the 2026 model’s standard all-wheel drive, 8.7-inch ground clearance, and X-Mode.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The 2025 Subaru Outback is rated at 26 city/32 highway/28 combined mpg with the base engine and 22 city/29 highway/25 combined mpg with the turbo engine. We expect similar fuel economy ratings for the 2026 model. These numbers are about average for a midsize 2-row SUV with all-wheel drive.

Boxy Exterior

The 2026 Subaru Outback has an all-new look that deviates from its wagon-like past. The new Outback has proportions more in line with a traditional midsize 2-row SUV. Its body is a bit taller and boxier as opposed to the longer proportions of Outback models of yesteryear that made it look like a hiking boot. It retains its important tall ground clearance of 8.7 inches with favorable approach and departure angles, which is part of what makes it such a good off-roader.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive 
This feature isn’t surprising or new for the 2026 model. The standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a full-time system, is one of our favorite things about the Subaru Outback. In typical Subaru fashion, it makes this SUV ready for snowy roads and rugged trails alike.
12.1-inch touchscreen 
We’re hoping infotainment won’t consistently be in our “Cons” column for the Outback anymore with this new 12.1-inch center display handling functions like maps, music, and phone connectivity. Speaking of which, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
EyeSight 
Subaru’s EyeSight safety tech suite bundles driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking, lane centering, adaptive cruise control, and acceleration override assist. A new safety option for the 2026 model is hands-free highway driving up to 85 mph.
X-Mode 
Subaru’s famous X-Mode helps optimize the car’s power delivery for conditions like snow, mud, and sand. Its controls used to be on the touchscreen; we’re grateful Subaru is moving the X-Mode controls to a switch on the steering wheel.
Wilderness model 
The Subaru Outback Wilderness has been called the Outback of the Outback. In other words, it’s the most off-road-capable version of an already capable SUV. In addition to a rugged appearance package, the Wilderness trim adds a 9.5-inch ground clearance, all-terrain tires, StarTex seats, dual-function X-Mode, and a 260-hp turbo engine.
Big cupholders 
Yes, every new car has cupholders. However, Subaru knows its audience: people who drive a Subaru like big water bottles. That’s why the cupholders in all four doors of the new Outback can accommodate a 32-ounce water bottle.

Updated Interior

The Subaru Outback has a new interior for 2026 that’s familiar in some ways and different in others. Let’s start with the screens. We never cared for the tall, clipboard-like infotainment screens that Subaru’s been using in recent years, so we’re grateful that the 12.1-inch center display in the new Outback is more square. Beneath it is a welcome row of physical knobs and buttons for the climate controls; no more frustrated tapping on a laggy screen to turn on the heated seats.
Subaru’s been getting with the times in terms of digital gauge clusters. A 12.3-inch screen perched in front of the steering wheel is now standard in every Outback, showing the driver the basics like a speedometer and fuel gauge, plus info on maps, music, driver assistance features, and more.

The outdoorsy Subaru Outback has always straddled the line between wagon and SUV. At least, it used to. Entering an all-new generation for 2026, the Outback is more decidedly a midsize 2-row SUV; there’s no longer any mistaking it for a wagon. But loyalists shouldn’t worry since it still retains the basics that make the Outback what it is, like a tall 8.7-inch ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive (AWD), and plenty of safety features, which now includes optional hands-free highway driving. The Subaru Outback has a well-earned reputation for blending practicality, safety, and capability in one quirky package, and that formula appears unchanged with the 2026 redesign.

We expect the 2026 Subaru Outback to start at about $35,000. This is higher than the 2025 model’s base price because Premium is the new base trim. A loaded Touring XT model could go up to around $47,000.

The Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness models are motivated by a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder pumping out 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines employ a CVT automatic transmission with an 8-speed manual shift mode. Naturally, all-wheel drive is standard across the board.

Subaru’s new-car warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, which is typical for the class.

The standard Subaru EyeSight safety tech suite bundles front pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, lane departure and sway warning, emergency stop assist, front cross-traffic braking, acceleration override assist, and a vibrating haptic steering wheel.
Additional optional safety tech includes emergency stop assist with safe lane selection, pre-curve speed control, highway active lane-change assist, highway automatic resume assist, and driver-supported highway hands-free assist up to 85 mph.

Power, Ride and Handling

As large as the 2025 Navigator L is, it’s surprisingly easy to maneuver, and you’ll never be caught wanting more power. The twin-turbocharged V6 engine and standard 4-wheel drive (4WD) provide the pep in a refined, elegant way, rarely roaring loud enough to intrude on conversation even under heavy acceleration.
The suspension even does an admirable job of handling the corners with composure. That’s because it’s not just reacting, but scanning the road ahead and anticipating what’s coming, adjusting the damping in real time.
Behind the wheel, the huge dash-spanning screen sits just below the windshield, making it easy to stay apprised of navigation or other information without taking your eyes far from the road. The BlueCruise system can make that even easier, taking much of the strain off the driver on longer trips by offering hands-free driving on certain mapped roads. It doesn’t have as much coverage as GM’s Super Cruise, and it’s more prone to kicking out of assist mode when it can’t find the lane markings, but it does an admirable job in most circumstances.
Fuel Economy
Despite its extra size, the 2025 Navigator L achieves the same fuel economy as its smaller sibling. At 17 mpg combined, the Navigator L is in the middle of its class, with the Escalade at 16 mpg combined and the Lexus LX at 19 mpg combined. While the Navigator L isn’t the most efficient large luxury SUV, it does well considering its towing and hauling capabilities.

Extended Exterior

You’d be forgiven for not immediately noticing the 2025 Navigator L is all-new, and that’s not because the sheet metal hasn’t changed. It’s just that the changes are subtle, and the look is still unmistakably Lincoln. Large LED lighting front and rear, including the nose-spanning light bar, helps cue the informed observer, as do the fender accents that flow onto the doors, accentuating the body character line that traces the Navigator L’s considerable length.
By default, the Navigator L comes with 22-inch wheels, with 24-inch wheels available. That might sound comically large, but on the Navigator L, these large wheels simply look proportionate.

Lincoln Rejuvenate 
This next-generation spa system is all about indulgence. By blending scent, massage, sound, and soothing imagery, it creates a calming, immersive experience that engages the senses and offers some respite from a long day behind the wheel.
Interior Design 
Step inside and you’ll notice the craftsmanship right away. The cabin is designed thoughtfully with real wood trim and ultra-premium Wollsdorf leather, offering a space that’s both elegant and inviting.
48-inch Display 
The massive 48-inch panoramic screen stretches across the dash, delivering crisp visuals for both driving info and entertainment system access. Its high placement also helps keep your eyes closer to the road.
Unique Steering Wheel 
The redesigned steering wheel isn’t just stylish, it’s smart. A flat bottom makes getting in and out easy, while a flat top keeps your view of the display and the road clear. It’s also heated and leather-wrapped as standard.
Black Label Atmospheric 
The Navigator’s Black Label Atmospheric edition makes a bold first impression. It features exclusive design touches like 24-inch Radiant Copper-painted wheels, copper-toned accents, and a refined interior theme that ties it all together.
BlueCruise 
Although it doesn’t have the massive coverage of alternatives, the BlueCruise hands-free driving system does a good job when it’s available.

Superior Interior

The headliner for the in-cabin upgrades for the new Navigator L is a new feature called Rejuvenate. The Rejuvenate experience is meant to be used when the Navigator L is parked — apparently a common use case for Navigator owners. These 5-minute or 10-minute sessions combine soundtracks, visual cues on the vehicle’s screens, aromatherapy via Lincoln Digital Scent, and a range of massages — including heated or cooled massages, depending on the mode chosen. At launch, there are three themes for the Rejuvenate experience: waterfall, aurora borealis, and elemental.
The Navigator L’s standard 24-way power-adjustable driver&#8217;s seat and 22-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, 48-inch panoramic display, and 28-speaker Revel audio system power that spa-like experience. Black Label models get 30-way power-adjustable seats.
Second-row accommodations are anything but second-class in the Navigator L, with up to 42 inches of leg room and more than five feet of hip and shoulder room. Choose the available Power Tailored seats to get heating, ventilation, powered adjustment, and massage functions in a pair of second-row power-folding captain’s chairs. If you’d rather have a bench seat, a semi-powered one is also available.
The third row offers a 40/20/40 split-folding bench seat, optional seat heaters, and up to 43.5 inches of leg room — that’s right, there’s more legroom in the third row than the second.
Where the Navigator L flexes its extra size is in the cargo area. Behind the third row, there’s 36.1 cubic feet of cargo space, almost double that of the non-L model, and just about on par with its primary competitor, the Cadillac Escalade ESV, which offers 41.5 cubic feet behind the third row. The Navigator L’s total cargo space of 121.6 cubic feet is likewise a bit smaller than the Escalade ESV’s 142.8 cubic feet. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer L offers similar space at 44.2/112.9 cubic feet.

The <a href="http://www.kbb.com/lincoln/">Lincoln</a> Navigator L is the larger, even roomier version of the company’s trend-setting SUV, the vehicle that established the full-size luxury SUV market. Now in its fifth generation, the Navigator marks another “W” with the Navigator L, taking the nameplate to a more luxurious, high-tech level than ever before.
At the same time, the Navigator L is as large and capable as ever, too. Like its Cadillac Escalade ESV alternative, the Navigator L is ideal for those who need both ample passenger space as well as plenty of room for cargo. Don’t let the crisp, clean exterior design fool you, either — the Navigator L is still as happy to tow a boat or camp trailer as it is to park in the executive lot.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/suv/best-luxury-full-size-suvs/">full-size luxury SUVs</a>, including the Lincoln Navigator L.

In the previous generation, the entry-level Reserve trim was the bestseller, and we expect that will be true of this fifth generation. That said, both the Reserve and the Black Label trims put the Navigator L into heady territory, especially in terms of starting price.
The Cadillac Escalade ESV, for example, starts more than $10,000 below the Navigator L at about $93,000, although Escalade pricing also extends considerably beyond the most expensive Navigator L. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is even more affordable, starting at $87,000 and change. The Lexus LX is actually marginally more expensive in base form than the Navigator L, and it too goes beyond the Navigator L’s top price. In the end, the Navigator L’s six-figure price still puts it near the middle of its competitive set, making it a relative value.
Before buying a new Navigator L large luxury SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. The Lexus LX usually has the strongest resale values in this class. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

All versions of the 2025 Navigator L employ a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. Output is a claimed 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard, as is a 10-speed automatic transmission. A heavy-duty trailer towing package is available that increases towing capacity to up to 8,700 pounds, depending on configuration.
Warranty
Lincoln’s standard new vehicle limited warranty offers coverage for four years/50,000 miles, while the powertrain warranty is good for six years/70,000 miles. This coverage is typical within the luxury SUV segment. Roadside assistance is available for as long as you own the vehicle.
Safety Ratings
The 2025 Lincoln Navigator L hasn’t yet been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>). Previous models received NHTSA&#8217;s maximum 5-Star overall rating.

The 2025 Navigator L is all-new for 2025, although it does carry forward the familiar twin-turbo V6 engine from the previous generation. This time, the updates are focused on the design and luxury aspects of the Navigator, which pay off with new and distinct spa-like features, upgraded materials, and an updated-yet-familiar look.

The 2026 BMW 7 Series large luxury sedan is a masterpiece in many ways.

We especially love the 536-horsepower V8 in the 760i xDrive. It sounds glorious and its power delivery is just as wonderful. BMW says this car can sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds &#8212; a feat that would please most sports car owners. If you’re going to drive a flagship luxury sedan in such a manner, this BMW is the one to have, which is exactly the conclusion reached by about half of all 7 Series buyers.
For a little performance context, the 496-hp Mercedes-Benz S 580 hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Even the most modest BMW 740i will still hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, which really isn’t slow at all, and similar to the rest of the class.
Just like a typical flagship sedan, the 7 Series can be super-luxurious, extremely comfortable (an air suspension is standard), and can lay on all sorts of gadgetry to help pass time on long trips. Yet it’s always had an edge, a different personality waiting to come out whenever the accelerator pedal is pressed hard and the steering wheel is turned with a bit of gusto. Select the Sport driving mode, and the responses and agility of the 7 Series seem more like those of the compact 3 Series than the anticipated attributes of a 2.5-ton palace on four wheels.
The 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) makes a healthy total of 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The popular 760i xDrive achieves 20 mpg in combined city/highway driving, just one mile shy of the Mercedes-Benz S 580 4Matic. The 740i returns 28 mpg combined, listing one mile per gallon with all-wheel drive. The 750e xDrive PHEV can run for 35 miles on battery power alone.
The all-electric version of the 7 Series, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i7/">i7</a>, is reviewed separately.

Dramatic Exterior

Love it or walk away slightly mystified, the 7 Series definitely has its own look going on. It works for us. All in black, with black wheels and a black grille, we could imagine such a car being a star turn in a high-budget Netflix thriller series set in Germany. Other color choices include Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic ($5,000) and two-tone paint schemes.
Sizewise, the current 7 Series is about five inches longer than its predecessor, about two inches taller, and almost a couple of inches wider. It’s big and imposing; BMW imports only the long-wheelbase version of the 7 Series into the United States. Mercedes-Benz does the same with the S-Class.

iDrive 
We’ve found BMW’s infotainment operating system to be excellent and user-friendly, and will obey voice commands. The 7 Series comes standard with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging, and over-the-air update capability.
Sky Lounge LED Panoramic Roof 
A standard feature in the 7 Series, this is a huge glass roof with thousands of LEDs set inside, creating a series of interesting patterns.
Luxury rear seating 
Even though the 7 Series is enjoyable from the driver’s seat, this kind of car is expected to provide lavish accommodation for rear passengers. An optional package brings heated/ventilated/massaging seats with powered adjustment.
Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio 
It’s an expensive option, but we think this 1,965-watt, 40-speaker surround-sound system (including speakers set into the front headrests) is beyond superb. “Loud and clear” only begins to describe it.
Theater Screen 
Dropping down from the ceiling, this massive 31.3-inch, high-resolution display is a must-have option for VIPs ensconced in the rear seats. It’s compatible with streaming services and Amazon Fire TV, comes with the Bowers &amp; Wilkins system, and a rear window shade that closes automatically when the screen is deployed.
Parking Assistant Professional 
This optional self-parking feature includes a 360-degree camera system, illuminated grille, plus a drive recorder and a remote theft recorder. We think it’s well worth considering.

Majestic Interior

Successive generations of cars tend to grow larger. We did a little digging and found that this generation of 7 Series has about an inch less rear legroom than before. But 43.3 inches is still a lot of real estate in which to stretch your legs.
Everything is put together in a suitably high-class manner. This cabin is the place where fine leather meets smart tech (which can change the mood of the entire car), then gives everyone a comfortable place to sit. Who needs a Rolls-Royce? The 7 Series offers self-closing doors and some of the best massaging seats on which we’ve ever rested our weary bones.
This is also the most screen-tastic 7 Series ever. A large unit up front (the BMW Curved Display) contains a section for driver information as well as an infotainment touchscreen. Even the rear seats have screens in the door panels for climate control.
The BMW Individual Composition program offers buyers a wide range of leathers and wood trim to personalize their new 7 Series to a greater degree.
Trunk space is 19.1 cubic feet, one of the biggest in the class.

Indulgence, presence, prestige, technology, and a wide streak of driver appeal all converge in the 7 Series. This flagship sedan demonstrates that <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> can do luxury just as well as the next celebrated German marque and still add a certain spice to the experience. We’re big fans of the 7 Series, not just because it does so many things right, but also because it steers away from blandness.

BMW vehicles are renowned for their handling, yet BMW engines are also excellent. One of the company’s hallmarks is a 6-cylinder unit, with those cylinders all in a line (as opposed to a V-formation). That’s the 740i’s setup, which coaxes a turbocharged 375 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque from a 3.0-liter displacement.
This amount of power is perfectly adequate while balancing relatively reasonable fuel economy. Some rivals start out with more power, some have less.
At its most affordable, the 740i deploys rear-wheel drive (RWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional.
The 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid employs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 and an electric motor to make 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque (which isn’t quite as powerful as the S-Class PHEV, but gutsy enough). Drive goes to all four wheels as standard. Using just the battery, it can travel for around 35 miles.
The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 in the 760i xDrive is a thing of mechanical beauty, endowed with 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
All engines connect to an 8-speed automatic transmission; premium gasoline is required throughout.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW covers its vehicles and powertrains with a warranty lasting four years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. This coverage is typical for European luxury car makers. There’s also roadside assistance for the first four years, with unlimited mileage, plus three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
Big luxury cars are not usually crash-tested by independent agencies. Still, there’s plenty of standard safety equipment &#8212; such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, Active Blind Spot Detection, adaptive headlights, and lane departure warning. The optional Driving Assistance Professional package is worth the investment, adding assistance for changing lanes, evasive steering and emergency stops, plus a hands-free highway driving feature.

The BMW 7 Series comes into this model year virtually unchanged.

The stylish 2026 Mini Countryman is a wonderful blend of all-wheel-drive can-do, spirited performance, and European driving dynamics.

Power, Ride, And Handling

The base version of the new Countryman comes with 241 horsepower and can sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The BMW X1 has the same amount of power, yet is quicker to 60 mph by 0.3 of a second. The top version of the Mazda CX-30 has 250 hp and can hit 60 mph in just under six seconds. But the Countryman is still fast enough for fun.
The thing about Mini vehicles is that they’re engaging to drive — crisp, responsive, and eager. Even though the Countryman is bigger than its regular hatchback stablemate, it’s still a bona fide Mini, and there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had. That goes double in the John Cooper Works model, which has 312 hp — a lot of punch for a small vehicle. It does the 60-mph sprint in just 5.4 seconds.
We especially like the Go-Kart mode (essentially a Sport mode), in which the automatic transmission stays in a lower gear longer, enabling brisk acceleration. The brakes also feel confident at the other end of the performance envelope. We feel obliged to add the JCW version rides on the firm side, so test drive it over some rough surfaces to see if that will work for you. However, the Countryman generally rides nicer on the highway than the smaller, more traditional Mini Cooper hatchback, given its longer wheelbase.
Fuel Economy
The Mini Countryman S returns 24 city/32 highway/27 combined mpg, while the more potent JCW model gets 23 city/30 highway/26 combined mpg. Premium gas is recommended for both, giving the Countryman above-average fuel costs for a small SUV. The closely related BMW X1 xDrive28i provides 28 mpg in combined driving.

All-in-the-Family Looks

With that sort of wonky hexagon shape, the headlights really look different from any Countryman that’s come before. As we become more familiar with the new design, it seems there’s a kind of Land Rover Defender influence — more squared-off and SUV-like than before.
Otherwise, it seems the new Countryman will continue to offer popular features like the roof and side mirror housings in a contrasting color to the rest of the vehicle, taillights that evoke the British flag, and a choice of cool wheel designs. We like that the Countryman has short overhangs, maximizing space between the wheels and that planted stance, making it look more capable and a bit tougher.
