We expect the 2026 Solterra to feel even more emboldened with its 233 hp, a bump up from the 215 of the past model. One of the many cool things about electric vehicles is that acceleration is immediate. Like flicking a light switch, pressing the accelerator provides instant thrust. That thrust will be even more apparent in the 2026 Subaru Solterra XT, which has motors outputting 338 hp. Subaru says it will enable a zero-to-60-mph sprint in less than five seconds. That’s quick indeed.
All Solterra models are all-wheel drive thanks to a motor at each axle. Being a Subaru, the Solterra is also meant for at least some light off-roading. Here, its 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a retuned all-wheel-drive system, and drive modes including Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Yes, there are two different settings for snow. The Solterra is a Subaru, indeed.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
For its 2026 reboot, Subaru says the Solterra has 25% better range than the outgoing model. That is, it is estimated to go more than 285 miles between charges, versus the rather meager 227 miles of the outgoing model.
Furthermore, Subaru says the new Solterra can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 35 minutes on a DC fast charger. Both these numbers still trail the Ioniq 5, but are still pretty impressive. Also helping the public charging cause, the 2026 Solterra will include a North American Charging System (NACS) charge port, meaning the 2026 Solterra can drink electrons from the Tesla Supercharger network.

We’ll be the first to acknowledge that the past Solterra’s exterior styling was, uh, unique. Like its bZ4X sibling from Toyota, it had a lot going on. This new one has tamed much of that busyness while retaining familiar elements like the boomerang taillights and sleek sloping rear window. The new front end is almost minimalist. We’ve only seen photos of the new Solterra in white, so it’s all quite stark. We imagine more color schemes will bring added appeal.

The Solterra sees upgrades to its 5-passenger cabin for its 2026 reintroduction. Front and center is a standard 14-inch touchscreen, along with dual wireless phone chargers so you don’t have to argue with your spouse or friend over who gets to juice their phone. We still have some reservations about the dial-based gear selector, but hopefully, familiarity at least leads to acceptance for owners. We are, however, fans of square-shaped steering wheels, and the Solterra has one. With its chunky console between driver and passenger, the Solterra doesn’t feel as open and airy as, say, an Ioniq 5. But they’ve gotta put all those electronics and dual charging pads somewhere.

The Solterra is Subaru’s first dedicated electric vehicle, an SUV that debuted for the 2023 model year as a joint project with Toyota and a twin to that brand’s bZ4X. While the initial Solterra filled an EV-sized hole in Subaru’s lineup, it trailed rivals in range and power. Subaru is addressing both for the 2026 Solterra — and adding some cherries on top.
This new version can travel more than 285 miles between charges and has 233 horsepower. Both are improvements over the last Solterra, and while still not class-leading, at least put the new one in serious competition with rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Chevrolet Equinox EV. Perhaps best of all, the Solterra is instilled with the Subaru traits of all-wheel drive (AWD) and an adventurous attitude, while the new Solterra XT injects potency into the mix.

The current model starts just below $40,000, and we estimate Subaru will aim to keep the Solterra in that region, though its price will likely nudge up given the updates and uncertainty in the market. The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV uses a 74.7-kWh battery pack. Its MPGe is still to be determined. Unlike rivals that offer both single and dual motors for either front- or rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, all Solterra models use two motors and have all-wheel drive standard, a well-loved Subaru trait.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Like most mainstream carmakers, Subaru offers bumper-to-bumper limited warranty protection for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain coverage is for five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, Subaru covers the EV components for eight years or 100,000 miles.
Safety
The last Solterra earned top marks for its crash safety, and we expect the new one to also perform well. However, we must await testing for official scores. The Solterra does come standard with a long list of safety and driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and much more.

The efficient and fast-charging Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan gets a refresh for 2026 with updated styling and a revised interior.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is powered by a 225-horsepower electric motor motivating the rear wheels. There’s also a 149-hp single-motor variant and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain with 320 hp.
We found the Hyundai Ioniq 6 a delight to drive with any powertrain. Most single-motor rear-wheel-drive variants hit 60 mph from a standstill in seven seconds, and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup gets there about two seconds quicker. Like many EVs, the experience of moving away from a stop so quickly is heightened by the smooth and quiet manner in which it happens.
Another common virtue of EVs like this one is a hushed cabin on the highway, which is a relaxed experience with Highway Driving Assist. Quietness has become something of a trademark of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai EVs</a>, and the Ioniq 6 is no exception. One of our gripes is that the weight of the heavy battery pack can give the Ioniq 6 a choppy ride on uneven pavement, especially with the available 20-inch wheels.
By virtue of being a sedan rather than an SUV, there’s an expectation for the Ioniq 6 to be more responsive and engaging than the Ioniq 5, but we’ve found them about equally enjoyable. Both offer a smooth one-pedal driving feature, which becomes a game of how little you can use the brake pedal to maximize efficiency. Then, it’s simply a better way of operating a vehicle.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Using the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 as a measuring stick, we expect the 2026 Ioniq 6 to get a max range of about 342 miles with the bigger battery, rear-wheel drive, and 18-inch wheels. Its max range with all-wheel drive should be around 316 miles, and its Standard Range battery should manage about 240 miles. As is the case with all EVs, opting for all-wheel drive or bigger wheels hurts range and efficiency.
The Ioniq 6 boasts impressive charging speeds, with a peak rate of 350 kW (that’s high). With DC fast charging, it can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. With Level 2 charging at home, it reliably gets a full charge overnight.

Sleek Exterior

Depending on your taste, the exterior design of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 could be the reason you want it or the reason you won’t consider it. Love it or hate it, we always welcome something that looks different from anything else on the road. The dome-shaped Ioniq 6 certainly makes a statement, and it&#8217;s tweaked for 2026 with a more horizontal light signature, a reworked rear spoiler, new wheel designs, and a sporty-looking new N-Line trim.

Frugal efficiency 
Yes, every electric vehicle is efficient compared to a similar gas-powered vehicle. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is stunningly efficient, even by EV standards. Its efficient motors and aerodynamic design get the most out of the electrons in the battery, which translates to cheap fuel costs.
Fast charging 
Many EVs have DC fast charging, but the Ioniq 6 has an almost unbeatable max charging speed of 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes in ideal conditions. With Level 2 charging at home, it can reliably charge to 100% overnight.
Dual panoramic displays 
The Hyundai Ioniq 6&#8217;s cabin features a large, rectangular display housing a digital gauge cluster and a central infotainment screen, which lends a high-tech look and feel. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
Highway Driving Assist 
Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist system isn’t hands-free, but it’s one of the most natural-feeling driving assist systems of its kind. It safely keeps you centered in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you while you keep a light hand on the wheel.
One-pedal driving 
This is a common function with electric vehicles, where the brake regeneration is at its highest, allowing the driver to slow down and come to a complete stop just by lifting off the accelerator. This system is smooth and natural in the Ioniq 6. It’s an effective way to drive an electric car, and it soon becomes second nature.
Over-the-air updates 
The Ioniq 6 can be improved after purchase with these remote software updates; no fussing around with flash drives or dealer appointments.

High-Tech Interior

Hyundai says the interior of the Ioniq 6 maintains a &#8220;Mindful Cocoon&#8221; concept. Whatever that means, we like this interior, which gets even better for 2026 with a new 3-spoke steering wheel and more premium materials on the door panels. The controls have a good balance of hard buttons and switches for things like seat climate controls and the parking camera, while infotainment duties are handled by a crisp screen with an intuitive interface.
Rear legroom is adequate at 34.7 inches. The sloping roofline will constrict rear headroom for taller types, but it’s less of an issue for the average adult. Trunk space measures 11.2 cubic feet, enough for a couple of golf bags, but pretty small for a sedan this size. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 has about the same rear legroom, an extra inch of rear headroom, and 21 cubic feet of luggage area.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was already a great electric sedan, and it’s getting even better for 2026. It features a sleek, refreshed design that maintains its unique shape while updating the wheels, light signature, and rear spoiler. A few of the things we love about the Hyundai Ioniq 6 are its near-class-leading efficiency (which gives it some of the lowest fuel costs of any new car), pleasant driving manners, long warranty coverage, and cutting-edge technology. The 2026 refresh also adds a sporty N-Line trim and a high-performance Ioniq 6 N to the lineup, which we’ll review separately.

Most Hyundai Ioniq 6 models are equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack, but the base Standard Range rear-wheel-drive model uses a smaller 53 kWh battery. The longer-range battery is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the latter models get slightly worse efficiency and range than their front-wheel-drive counterparts.
Range isn’t everything when it comes to EVs; efficiency is what determines your fuel costs, i.e., how much your car adds to your electric bill. In this category, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is among the best EVs. If its efficiency ratings for the 2026 model are the same as the 2025 model, it will return as much as 135 combined MPGe with rear-wheel drive and 121 combined MPGe with all-wheel drive. According to <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a> estimates, its monthly fuel costs can go as low as about $46.
<h3>5-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Ioniq 6 enjoys class-leading warranties. Hyundai’s excellent coverage includes a 5-year/60,000-mile (whichever happens first) basic warranty, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain and battery warranties, five years of roadside assistance (with no mile limit), and a 3-year/36,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The Ioniq 6 has earned the highest accolade of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and a 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.

What's new for 2026

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 just came out in 2023, and it’s already receiving an <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-hyundai-ioniq-6-gets-even-more-dramatic-style/">aesthetic refresh inside and out for 2026</a>. It retains its distinct shape and gets a thinner, more horizontally oriented light signature, new wheel designs, and a sporty N-Line trim with unique front and rear fascias and more dark lower cladding. Inside, there’s a new 3-spoke steering wheel, more physical buttons and switches, and nicer materials on the door panels. Also, a hot new <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/hyundai-teases-high-performance-ioniq-6-n/">Ioniq 6 N sports sedan is on the way</a>, which we’ll review separately.

For most people, the 649 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque developed by the AMG EQS should be perfectly ample for rapid, smooth, near-silent progress. But this is an AMG car, where more is always better. A standard Race Start feature means a temporary boost to 751 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque, enabling a sprint from standstill to 60 mph in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds, a tenth quicker than the BMW i7 M70 xDrive.
The AMG EQS has all-wheel drive as standard, although the most powerful of the two electric motors is located at the back, so there’s still a sporty, rear-drive kind of flavor to the dynamics, especially in Sport and Sport+ modes.
An AMG-tuned adaptive air suspension is standard, enabling a range of settings from supple to sporty. Another standard feature is rear-wheel steering, which we’ve found to work well as it enhances maneuverability and adds a certain athleticism that makes this full-size car feel smaller than it really is.
This year, Mercedes-Benz has given the regenerative braking system extra attention. It recovers more energy than before, contributing to a better range, and there’s a more natural feel to the brake pedal. Speaking of natural, we could live without the fake whooshing sounds coming through the audio system when accelerating. We are of a mind to switch them off.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Maximum range of the 2025 AMG EQS is estimated at 315 miles. That beats the BMW i7 M70 xDrive’s 285 miles. We’ve noticed with all-electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz that their ranges in real-life driving are close to the quoted figures.
When replenishing the battery, it takes about 31 minutes to go from 10% to 80% using a DC fast charger. Not the fastest in the class, but we’d still call it acceptable.

Efficient Exterior

We understand that not everyone will love the enhanced aerodynamic look of the AMG EQS, but just understanding the reason behind it goes a long way to acceptance. Then there are typical AMG design cues like the vertical slats in the “grille” (not that this car needs a grille as such, with no engine to cool) and the large air intakes for the front brakes.

Hyperscreen 
A standard feature in the AMG EQS, this spectacular dash-wide creation contains a 12.3-inch LED instrument cluster and two OLED touchscreens — one (17.7 inches) for general infotainment, the other (12.3 inches) for the front passenger.
Parktronic with Active Park Assist 
In a big car like the AMG EQS, we think some help with parking is always welcome. This standard feature can scan for suitable spaces (parallel or perpendicular), then maneuver the car into and subsequently out of them.
Active Steering Assist 
A lot of our driving time is spent on less-than-thrilling freeway stretches, which is where this bit of standard cleverness comes in. Used in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, it keeps the car in the center of its lane and will also negotiate those gentle curves.
Burmester audio 
This is one of our absolute favorite automotive audio systems, especially with the Dolby Atmos feature that really brings out the detail. This 15-speaker/710-watt surround-sound setup comes standard in the AMG EQS.
Pinnacle trim 
Just because this is an AMG doesn’t mean it can’t cosset its rear passengers as well as any other EQS. Choosing this package brings heated/ventilated/massaging rear seats, and even rear-seat neck heating.
Carbon ceramic front brakes 
With so much power, speed and weight in the AMG EQS, we’d be tempted to go for this option that installs fade-free, warp-resistant, long-lasting brake discs.

Opulent and Ergonomic Interior

Because the AMG EQS is the go-faster version of a large luxury (all-electric) car, we find plenty of high-quality materials in the cabin, all put together with superb craftsmanship. Tech levels are high and many functions will respond to voice commands, even the massaging seats. And there’s plenty of space in both rows. If we were going to drive an electric car from coast to coast, the AMG EQS would be our first choice.
There’s even a decent amount of cargo space and versatility, because the AMG EQS has a hatchback instead of the usual sedan trunk, along with split/folding rear seats.

Six letters, three stories. Aficionados of <a href="http://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> know that AMG is the company’s high-performance wing with a tradition of taking regular M-B vehicles and transforming them into breathtaking driver’s machines. EQ, meanwhile, indicates electric power. And S evokes the S-Class, the archetypal Mercedes, the top dog among large luxury sedans.
The AMG EQS isn’t an S-Class with prodigious electric propulsion, however. It’s based on the EQS, a separate large luxury 4-door built specifically for voltage-derived velocity. This entails a more aerodynamic exterior design to help maximize range, while also packing a navigation system that takes charging requirements into account.

The closest rival is the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i7/">BMW i7</a> — particularly the M70 xDrive, which is pricier than this AMG. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lucid/air/">Lucid Air</a> in Grand Touring trim isn’t quite as sport-oriented, yet still incredibly powerful and more affordable. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/model-s/">Tesla Model S</a> Plaid is even cheaper.

Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

Mercedes-Benz proclaims a “new generation of battery technology” for the upgraded 118-kilowatt-hour (kWh) power pack in the 2025 AMG EQS. This is on the high side of battery capacity, helping the AMG EQS move past the 300-mile range barrier — quite impressive for a car with this much muscle.

<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Mercedes-Benz has new-vehicle coverage that’s typical for German luxury marques, with a warranty lasting four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. Electric components fare better, protected for 10 years or 155,000 miles.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The EQS (on which this AMG EQS is based) has not been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, which is quite common with ultra-luxury vehicles. However, it did earn a maximum overall score of five stars from the Euro NCAP program. The array of standard driver assistance features in the AMG EQS covers just about everything.

What's new for 2025

An upgraded battery pushes maximum range another 10 miles over last year’s best of 305 miles. The braking system has also received attention for a more natural feel to the pedal. A center airbag between the two front seats becomes standard, along with soft-closing doors. And owners can now use their phone instead of the usual key.
