Driving Impressions

The LC 500 is energized by a 471-horsepower V8. Sprinting from standstill to 60 mph happens in an impressive 4.4 seconds, and the engine sounds glorious in the process — yet never obnoxious. To compare, the BMW 840i Coupe with a 335-hp 6-cylinder engine is 0.3 of a second slower.
As a grand tourer rather than a true driver’s machine (like a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/porsche/911/">Porsche 911</a>), we’ve found that the LC definitely has its own fine qualities. It’s based on the same platform as the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/ls/">LS</a> flagship luxury sedan, after all. The LC is reassuringly stable at high speeds. And the standard brake-based torque vectoring, where the inside rear wheel goes around a corner slower than its outside counterpart, helps the car stay tidy in the curves.
We think the car’s heft (both variants weigh over 4,000 pounds) tends to discourage more aggressive driving. For journeys through scenic areas, however, the LC can be a perfect companion. The comprehensive array of standard safety features, meanwhile, is both confidence-inspiring and helpful on freeways and in cities alike.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
Regardless of body style, the LC 500 achieves 18 mpg in combined city/highway driving. There isn’t a direct BMW 8 Series rival to compare. For example, the 840i is rated at 24 mpg combined, but is less powerful than the LC 500. The BMW M850i xDrive gets 19 mpg combined, yet has 523 horses and all-wheel drive as standard.

Two Body Styles

It might just be that 2-door cars invariably look a bit special. Or perhaps the Lexus design philosophy has found its perfect vehicle of expression in the 2026 LC. It’s available as a coupe with a fixed metal roof or a convertible with a power-operated soft-top (which takes only about 15 seconds to open or close, and can do so at speeds up to 31 mph). The coupe’s roof doesn’t have to be all-metal. The alternatives are glass or carbon fiber.
The Inspiration Series introduces Smoke Gray Matte for the coupe and the light gray Wind finish for the convertible. There’s also some blacked-out exterior accents.

One of a few options, but worth having, in our opinion. This 13-speaker, 915-watt surround-sound system was developed especially for the LC. It even knows when the convertible’s roof is down and recalibrates its settings accordingly.
Dynamic Handling package
Even though the LC is not a precision sports machine like some Porsches, we would still say this options bundle is worth considering. As well as a limited-slip differential and a sportier rear suspension, it also includes rear-wheel steering and variable-ratio steering — both of which enhance the driving experience at high speed and maneuverability at low speed.
Head-up display
Projecting information onto the windshield means the driver’s eyes don’t have to stray from the road ahead to pick up crucial information. We also think this optional feature seems fighter-pilot cool.

Plush Interior

It’s a Lexus, so the 2026 LC is predictably brimful of quality materials put together with wonderful attention to detail and a high degree of craftsmanship. The dashboard houses an analog clock, the driver’s footwell has aluminum pedals, and the passenger side of the center console morphs into a grab handle.
Space is plentiful up front, although the two rear seats are better for weekend bags than they are for humans, especially since the trunk’s volume is only 5.4 cubic feet at best. The LC 500 convertible has only 3.4 cubic feet — barely enough for one set of golf clubs.
A Bespoke Build program applies to both coupe and convertible models, with a blue/white color scheme exclusive to the convertible. This year&#8217;s Inspiration Series brings center console badges, plus white/black decor for the coupe’s cabin, or Saddle Tan/White semi-aniline leather in the convertible.

One of the few constants in life is, ironically, the fact that nothing remains constant. That applies to the automotive world as much as anything else. Even so, we’re glad to see the Lexus LC luxury coupe and convertible cars remain in production for another year.
Based on the same platform as the LS large luxury sedan, the LC embodies refinement and exquisite taste. It’s not the ultimate driver’s car, but that’s hardly the LC’s mission. Instead, it excels as a glorious way of driving to wonderful locations. Or maybe just the mall. It also has those typical <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/">Lexus</a> attributes that somehow seem to be other constants in this uncertain world — like reliability, build quality, and a more-than-bearable dealer experience.

Pricing - Static

A couple of alternatives are the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-sl/">Mercedes-AMG SL</a>, starting higher than the priciest LC. Or the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/8-series/2025/">BMW 8 Series</a>, which comes in below the LC — although with less power. Of course, the opportunity is there to spend much more on these German rivals to acquire higher levels of equipment and muscle.

The LC 500 coupe and convertible employ a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 developing 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. This goes solely to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
The Lexus new-vehicle warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first, is usual for the luxury sector. The 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty is a little better than most. The first two scheduled services (six months/5,000 miles and 12 months/10,000 miles) are also free.
Safety
The LC hasn’t been crash-tested by any independent agencies in the United States, but in light of the usual Lexus build quality and safety features, we don’t think this should deter any potential buyers. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, intersection assistance, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

What's new for

Lexus has a limited run of Inspiration Series LC 500 cars for North America, with 200 coupes and 350 convertibles. The coupe comes in Smoke Matte Gray, while the soft-top has a light gray Wind finish. Both hues are new to the LC lineup. The hybrid version of the coupe (the LC 500h) <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/lexus-keeps-the-lc-model-for-2026-but-kills-the-hybrid/">has been discontinued</a>, and we aren’t expecting the LC in general to last much longer.

Power, Ride, and Handling

It seems physically impossible for a 9,000-plus-pound truck to be able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just over three seconds. Yet that’s what the Hummer EV Pickup can do with the tri-motor powertrain in the 3X and the Watts to Freedom launch system. That makes driving this truck thrilling. The Hummer EV is also surprisingly agile, thanks to its standard 4-wheel steering. The less powerful dual-motor 2X should provide more than enough power for most drivers. We are fans of one-pedal driving provided by some EVs, including the Hummer EV Pickup.
Yes, it’s large, but the Hummer EV Pickup is not as intimidating to drive as you might think. Behind the wheel, it feels smooth and comfortable, like an upscale full-size truck. It manages all that power and torque quite nicely, as the power is easy to modulate. But the Hummer EV Pickup is heavy, which you don’t feel as much while driving or regular cornering. Be ready to brake early when bringing it to a stop. That’s a handy tip when driving any heavy vehicle.
The Hummer is very well-equipped for the dirt, but the optional Extreme Off-Road Package takes it up a notch. This option bundle includes 35-inch mud terrain tires, front and rear e-lockers, full skid plates, front and rear UltraVision cameras, and more. The result is a truck that can handle just about any terrain.

Eye-Catching Exterior

Rugged and imposing, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup looks every bit like an heir to both the military Hummer and the Hummer H2, but more streamlined and futuristic. Its unique style makes it stand out among the other electric trucks, as well as everything else on the road. The fun Easter eggs continue on the exterior. An “H” logo is hidden in the taillights and rear tailgate brake light, there’s an “HEV” logo on the wheels, and there are American flags on the C-pillars. Fans of the 6-function MultiPro tailgate that’s available on the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/GMC/sierra/">GMC Sierra</a> will be happy to know it comes standard on the Hummer EV Pickup. In addition, the rear window slides down, making it easy to carry long, wide cargo. You can remove the optional Infinity Roof&#8217;s Transparent Sky Panels, put down the rear and side windows, and enjoy open-air driving.

Super Cruise 
The standard Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system allows hands-free driving that will soon cover <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/gms-super-cruise-now-covers-750000-miles-of-roads/">750,000 miles of highway</a> in North America.
Agile steering 
The standard CrabWalk system uses 4-wheel steering to make it easier to maneuver around obstacles on the trail. On the road, that 4-wheel steering also gives the Hummer EV Pickup a turning radius similar to that of a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic/">Honda Civi</a>c.
Watts to Freedom 
Buckle up; the available Watts to Freedom feature launches this electric truck from zero to 60 mph in about three seconds.
UltraVision 
The UltraVision system employs up to 18 camera views to see everything around you — and even under you — for parking and off-roading.
MultiPro tailgate 
The MultiPro tailgate has six different modes. This flexible tailgate can function as a load stop, steps, or even a desk.

Space-Age Interior

One of the big payoffs with a truck this size is a spacious cabin. The front row has some of the best headroom and legroom you can find in a truck, while the rear row is slightly less accommodating. The seats are plenty comfy, too. The interior of the Hummer EV Pickup is a pleasant, roomy setting. GM has had a decades-long history of working on moon rovers for NASA; Easter egg design cues in the cabin make reference to the moon landing and the Sea of Tranquility.
User-friendly technology is one of the other strong suits of the Hummer EV Pickup. Its 13.4-inch main touchscreen has separate buttons to control the various audio, climate, and truck controls. Many of the tech and off-road controls are accessed through the screen itself. We like the customizable digital gauge cluster and the Google-powered infotainment system. There are plenty of clever storage spaces inside. And outward visibility is quite good.

Like its gas- (or diesel) powered predecessors, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is a terrific, powerful off-road machine that cuts a large figure. However, the modern Hummer EV pickup is all-electric and full of the latest tech. It’s also quick on its feet and more comfortable than the Hummer models of the 1990s and 2000s. It has impressive features like GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. And it does all of this with nearly 320 miles of range and zero tailpipe emissions. The powertrain may be different, but the GMC Hummer EV stays true to the Hummer name and legacy. There’s also a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/gmc/hummer-ev-suv/">Hummer EV SUV</a>, which is reviewed separately.
We’ve tested all the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/electric-car/best-electric-trucks/">electric trucks</a> on sale today, including the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

No matter which of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/compare-cars/results?vehicleIds=471257|471290/">two Hummer EV trims</a> you choose, it’s pricier than competitors like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/Ford/f-150-lightning/">Ford F-150 Lightning</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/silverado-ev/">Chevy Silverado EV</a>, or the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/rivian/r1t/">Rivian R1T</a>. The primary difference between the 2X and 3X trims is the motor count with a boost in horsepower and torque. If we were shopping for the Hummer EV, we might stick with the 2X trim and put that $8,000 difference toward some cool options like the Extreme Off-Road Package or the Lifestyle Adventure Package, which includes a rooftop tent.

Battery Power and Range

The 2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup comes with a choice of two potent powertrains. The 2X uses a dual-motor setup with 570 horsepower, and the tri-motor 3X has 1,000 hp. GMC&#8217;s estimates put torque at 7,400 lb-ft for the 2X and 11,500 lb-ft in the 3X when factoring in the Watts to Freedom feature.
Without any optional features, the 2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup has an EPA-rated range of 318 miles. That&#8217;s achieved in the 2X. However, GMC also offers a 24-module battery pack ($9,995) for the 3X trim that increases the maximum range to a GM-estimated 367 miles. Those are impressive numbers for such a massive vehicle. With a Level 3 DC fast charger, GM says you can add an estimated 100 miles of range in 12 minutes under optimal conditions. Using a Level 2 charger with a 240-volt power source takes just over 16 hours to go from 20% to 100%.
In Pickup and SUV forms, the GMC Hummer EV is about the least-efficient electric vehicle on the market. With EPA efficiency figures hovering around 53 MPGe combined, it uses more than twice as much electricity to cover the same distance as something like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/ioniq-5/">Hyundai Ioniq 5</a>, for instance. Even the Ford F-150 Lightning is as much as 40% more efficient than the Hummer EV. The 24-module, extended-range battery is necessarily massive, providing 212 kWh of storage. <h3>Towing and Hauling</h3>
The Hummer EV Pickup can tow up to 12,000 pounds, depending on the trim. It has a 5-foot bed and a max payload capacity of 1,485 pounds. For reference, the Ford F-150 Lightning is rated to tow 10,000 pounds and haul 2,000 pounds.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>

Powertrain components are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, and the EV battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. This is the same as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV.

Neither the government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash/safety tested the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. However, it does come with a robust bundle of advanced driver-assist and safety technology. Included are automatic emergency front/rear braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more.
