The entry-level Taycan has one electric motor driving the rear wheels. It makes 402 horsepower, or a brief 429 hp with launch control. In the sprint from standstill to 60 mph, it will do the dash in just 4.5 seconds. For comparison, the BMW i5 eDrive40 has 335 hp and is slower to 60 mph by about 1.2 seconds.
At the other end of the Taycan’s speedy spectrum is the Turbo S (not that there’s actually a turbocharger under the hood — consider it Porsche’s way of saying “hot”) which makes a massive 938 horsepower in launch mode and will hit 60 mph in a mind-bending 2.3 seconds. Then there&#8217;s the Taycan Turbo GT with 1,019 hp and the ability to hit 60 mph in 2.2 seconds &#8212; or 2.1 with the Weissach Package.
Versions of the Taycan with the Sport Chrono package and the Performance Battery Plus have an overtaking button on the steering wheel, for whenever that extra boost is required.
As with other Porsches, speed is just one aspect of the overall heightened driving experience. There’s also the crispness of response, agility, and control. We’ve found the Taycan to have these typical Porsche qualities. Just that it doesn’t use gasoline.
An adaptive air suspension is standard in every 2026 Taycan, so it can also provide a cushioned ride whenever the conditions or the whim dictates. Or there’s the optional Porsche Active Ride suspension available with all-wheel-drive variants. It smooths out bumps as if they didn’t exist, and will keep the car completely (and uncannily) level through corners, as well as under acceleration and braking.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Depending on the variant, the Taycan’s maximum ranges span from 252 miles to 318 (this latter figure achieved by the single-motor/rear-drive version with the upgraded 105 kilowatt-hour battery). Most Taycan owners find Porsche’s mileage estimates to be totally achievable — even over-conservative on occasion.
For comparison, the BMW i5 eDrive40 is capable of 295 miles, the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan can run for 308 miles, and the Audi S e-tron GT has a maximum of 300 miles. Other contenders include the Tesla Model S (405 miles) and the Lucid Air, which can run for a phenomenal 512 miles (in Grand Touring trim).
The Taycan is one of the faster-charging electric cars. Porsche says charging a Taycan battery from 10% capacity to 80% at the highest setting takes 18 minutes. Using a home charger with a 240-volt supply, a full recharge takes about 9.5 hours, which is fine for an overnighter.

Size-wise, the Taycan sedan is the same length as the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan and about three inches shorter than the BMW i5. It’s also noticeably lower than both of those rivals. To our eyes, the Taycan definitely has that special Porsche look that manages to evoke the famed 911 sports car while still being a 4-door car. The Black Edition brings wheels and various exterior accents finished in the same color as a witch’s cat. Or hat.
Porsche has also given the Taycan matrix-design LED headlights and LED taillights, and placed charging ports on both sides — which is extra convenient. The company offers a broad palette of colors, including the option of matching paint to a customer-supplied sample.

Wireless phone integration 
Cable-free Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the 2026 Taycan lineup. Apple CarPlay allows access to some of the car’s systems. There’s also a cooled wireless charging pad. And an In-Car Video feature allows streaming in the center and front passenger screens.
Porsche Intelligent Range Manager 
A standard feature in the 2026 Taycan, this will calculate the most energy-efficient route, taking into account factors like real-time traffic and any charging requirements along the way.
Remote Park Assist 
By using a phone app, drivers can control their Taycan with this optional feature, slotting it into (or out of) parallel or perpendicular parking spaces while standing outside.
InnoDrive 
Otherwise known as Porsche’s adaptive cruise control. It’s linked to the navigation system, taking topography and curves into account, as well as sensing traffic around the vehicle, and keeping the car in its lane. This is optional in the 2026 Taycan.
Variable Light Control 
Available with the panoramic glass roof, it can darken or lighten the glass electronically.
Plug &amp; Charge 
Plug &amp; Charge means that as you connect to a charger, the system recognizes your Taycan and uses the credit card information on file for a simple and streamlined process.

In its usual form, the 2026 Taycan luxury electric car has well-bolstered, supportive-yet-comfortable seats for four adults. It will take 6-footers in both rows — any taller types will want to sit up front. A little center rear seat is available as an option.
Appropriately for a German luxury car, the Taycan’s interior is full of quality materials, assembled well into a smart design. Technology coexists with cosseting, as high-resolution displays can share space with vegan-friendly simulated leather and simulated suede. Plus the option of seat belts and contrasting stitching all in silver. This year’s Black Edition offers black leather or a black/Slate Grey scheme.
There’s a decent amount of room in the sedan’s trunk: 14.3 cubic feet, more than the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, less than the BMW i5. All Taycan models have an additional 2.9 cubic feet of stowage under the hood.

For this legendary company, merely putting an electric drivetrain into a car would never be enough. If that car is going to wear the hallowed Porsche badge, it had better look like a Porsche and drive like a Porsche. Pricing - Static

The version with the best range — 318 miles — is the base rear-drive Taycan with the upgraded (105 kilowatt-hour) battery. We’re happy enough to recommend this, although we realize that people don’t buy a Taycan just for its range.
The Taycan sure drives like a Porsche should, but charges a premium for such impressive ability. For comparison, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i5/2025/">BMW i5</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/model-s/">Tesla Model S</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqe/">Mercedes-Benz EQE</a> sedan, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lucid/air/">Lucid Air</a> all have lower starting prices. The 670-horsepower <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/s-e-tron-gt/">Audi S e-tron GT</a> is based on the same platform as the Taycan and begins a little below the similarly muscular Taycan GTS.

The Performance Battery Plus (optional in the lower trims at $5,980, included in the GTS and up) replaces the standard item — which has a gross capacity of 89 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and a net of 82.2 kWh — with a 105-kWh battery whose net capacity is 97 kWh. Adding this to the base model achieves the best range of the lineup.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Porsche’s new-vehicle warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. These arrangements are typical among European luxury vehicles.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The Taycan has not been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, but an independent European test program (Euro NCAP) gave the car a maximum overall score of five stars.

What's new for 2026

The infotainment system is upgraded this year. Responses are faster, users gain the ability to download third-party apps, and Amazon Alexa can be employed as a digital assistant. Optional audio systems from Bose and Burmester have both been enhanced with Dolby Atmos technology. We think a Burmester/Dolby Atmos setup is one of the best systems we’ve heard, as it provides extraordinary detail and clarity.
There’s also a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/porsche-rolls-out-new-taycan-black-editions/">Black Edition available this year</a> for the base Taycan, Taycan 4, and 4S. Predominantly a cosmetics package (no prizes for guessing the main color), it also includes the upgraded battery, puddle lights, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, lane changing assistance, a 360-degree camera setup, and a Bose surround-sound system. Prices differ according to the variant, but budget around $15,000 to $17,000. We’ve often found that adding equipment like this to a regular model ends up being more expensive, so the Black Edition could almost qualify as a bargain as long as you like the color schemes on offer.
The Taycan launched for the 2020 model year and received a mid-cycle refresh last year.
