Driving Impressions

Under the hood, you’ll find 450 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. That’s 50 hp and 103 lb-ft more than the previous-gen QX80. It’s a serious bump, enough to put the QX80 shoulder-to-shoulder with Navigator and Escalade. There’s a hint of turbo lag, but uphill or on the highway, it never feels short on muscle.
Steering? Nicely weighted, especially in Sport mode, which adds a little heft. Prefer to let the car do the work? ProPilot 2.1 brings partial self-driving capability.
Ride quality gets a big assist from the adaptive suspension (standard on Luxe and up), which smooths out the harshness you might expect from 22-inch wheels. It’s not quite GLS-level sophistication, but body roll stays well in check.
Fuel Economy
The 2026 QX80 gets 18 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive (RWD), or 17 mpg combined with 4-wheel drive (4WD). That’s a couple mpg better than the V8 in the old QX80. For context, the GLS 450 4Matic does 21 mpg, but with just 362 hp. The Cadillac Escalade scores combined ratings of 17 mpg with rear-wheel drive, or 16 mpg with 4-wheel drive.

The QX80&#8217;s proportions are spot-on, and details like the bamboo-inspired grille, flush door handles, and full-width LED tail lamps make it stand out. Higher trims even greet you with a light show when you approach.

More Space and Elegance

Interior

When you step inside, it’s clear Infiniti aimed for elegance. Two 14.3-inch displays dominate the dash, with a 9-inch climate screen below. A head-up display joins the party at Luxe trim.
Seating is for seven or eight, with captain’s chairs in the second row if you go with seven. Front seats? Wide and supremely comfortable. Outward visibility? Excellent.
The Autograph trim is pure indulgence, with soft-touch everything, fine materials, and massaging seats in both rows. Yes, second-row passengers get the spa treatment too.
Access to the third row is easy, even with child seats installed. Back there, shorter passengers will be happiest, but they still get USB-C ports (eight total in the cabin), vents, and optional heating.
The QX80’s cargo space is considerably larger than in the previous-generation model, with 20.4 cubic feet available behind the third row, 56.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum of 97.1 cubic feet behind the first row.
For comparison, the GLS maxes out at 84.7 cubic feet, and the BMW X7 offers 90.4 cubic feet. That means the QX80 is one of the larger luxury SUVs around, although it’s still smaller than the likes of the Escalade and Navigator, both of which offer more than 100 cubic feet of space.
If we have one gripe with the QX80&#8217;s cabin, it’s the button-style transmission selector. It frees up console space for storage and wireless charging, but we’d prefer a traditional shifter. On the plus side, you can specify a chilled compartment big enough for a six-pack.

This is also the first Infiniti model to wear a six-figure price tag. The old QX80 was the bargain in this class, but the new one aims for the top shelf, adding everything buyers expect, like premium audio, exquisite materials, and even a climate system that reads body heat.

The high-spec Sensory trim has long been the go-to version of the QX80, but with the redesigned model, the Sensory trim is no more. Instead, we can see plenty of buyers choosing the midrange Luxe trim with all-wheel drive (AWD), landing around $95,000.
The QX80 is priced in the same league as the Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7. The Lexus LX and Jeep Grand Wagoneer are priced a little higher. Some rivals also offer extended-length versions for extra cargo space.

The powertrain is covered for six years or 70,000 miles, and you also get three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, no mileage cap.

The 2026 Infiniti QX80 hasn’t yet been crash-tested by the relevant authorities, but the nearly identical 2025 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), the body’s highest rating. The 2026 Kicks delivers 141 horsepower – about average for the class. For example, the Kia Seltos makes 146 hp, while the Chevy Trailblazer settles for 137 hp. All in all, the Kicks behaves much as you would expect for a subcompact SUV.
We embarked on a 4-day, 1,400-mile Cannonball Run from Greenville, South Carolina, to Delray Beach, Florida, and back in an all-wheel-drive Nissan Kicks SR with the Premium Package. Our conclusion: This is a terrific little crossover for road trips. Is it quick? Well, no. Is it super comfortable? No, but quite comfy enough. Is it quiet? Yes, with a qualification. Is it roomy enough for people and all their stuff? An emphatic, yes!
Granted, it was a 3-night stay for two older guys, but the Kicks swallowed us and our suitcases, hanging clothing bags, and other assorted odds and ends, and begged for more. Even with the second-row seat in place, the rear cargo area is quite spacious. Sorry, delivering only 141 hp, there is no way to frame the Kicks as quick. However, it can muster sufficient thrust for launching from freeway ramps free of drama. Moreover, we were amazed that in spite of the horsepower handicap and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), the adaptive cruise control effortlessly maintained its preset speed, no matter if the terrain was flat or hilly.
Both front and rear seats are of Nissan’s Zero Gravity variety, influenced by the space program. After spending about nine and a half hours in them, we were still relatively fresh. Although there is a bit of engine roar under hard acceleration, it’s not overwhelming. What we did find mind-numbingly annoying was the tire noise on anything other than baby-bottom-smooth pavement. This was an issue on I-95 through Georgia, where the pavement is primarily that pebbly asphalt. Crossing into South Carolina and Florida from Georgia was akin to being dropped into a sensory deprivation tank.
Oh, and we averaged 32 mpg on a trip that was about 90% freeway.
Fuel Economy
Here’s where the rather mundane engine performance and CVT really pay off. With front-wheel drive (FWD), the Kicks delivers an estimated combined mileage of 31 mpg. This drops to 30 mpg with all-wheel drive. These numbers are tied with or better than every other gasoline-only subcompact SUV rival.

Stunning Exterior

We’ve already forgotten what the previous Kicks looked like. Which says a lot about how stunning this generation’s design is, and how not-at-all-stunning the previous model was. If this is Nissan’s new design philosophy, we&#8217;re excited to see what future models will look like.
Size-wise, the revamped Kicks grew by about an inch in each direction. It’s now similar to the Kia Seltos; however, both are smaller than the Honda HR-V. The Kicks is also more like an SUV than a hatchback, with ground clearance of 8.4 inches (a hike of 1.4 inches). It’s not as much as the Subaru Crosstrek, but darn close.

Available all-wheel drive 
The second-generation Kicks boasts all-wheel drive on its options list for the first time. It is a must-have feature in regions where it snows, thanks to the enhanced traction it delivers on slick roads. We applaud Nissan for adding it.
Standard 12.3-inch touchscreen 
For 2026, all three trims get a generous 12.3-inch digital infotainment touchscreen display. It makes finding and controlling systems much easier.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 
Standard on every new Kicks, this bundle of advanced safety and driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and high-beam assist. Also standard is rear park assist.
Adaptive cruise control 
We love that, at this price point, standard on every Kicks trim is adaptive cruise control, which slows and accelerates to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front once the speed has been set. It’s reliable and holds the set speed uphill and down.
Available ProPilot Assist 
Standard on the range-topping SR grade, this semi-autonomous driver-assistance system allows the Kicks to brake, accelerate, and steer itself under certain conditions. It takes advantage of other SR-standard advanced systems like lane-keeping assist, blind-spot intervention, and Intersection Assist, which kicks in when making a left turn across oncoming traffic.
Intelligent Key 
A programmable key fob, this feature is a more complex take on keyless entry systems that automatically unlock the vehicle without engaging the fob. In other words, you can unlock the Kicks by simply operating the door or liftgate handle as long as the key fob is on your person. Standard starting on the SV trim, it also includes push-button start.

Quality Cabin

To match the adventurous exterior, Nissan has graced the new Kicks with a classy interior. In the top SR trim, at least, which comes with a dual-display unit that incorporates a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment touchscreen — both measuring 12.3 inches. Other trims have a 7-inch driver&#8217;s display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
After that treat for the eyes comes a treat for a lower region. The aforementioned Nissan Zero Gravity seats — renowned for their comfort — are standard in both rows. The bigger body of the new Kicks results in more space for its occupants. There are increases (albeit by an inch or so) in shoulder room and rear legroom from the last-gen model. That said, the Kia Seltos and Honda HR-V are still a bit more accommodating for those with longer legs.
Cargo space varies according to trim and whether or not the specific vehicle has all-wheel drive. The largest luggage area behind the rear seats is 30 cubic feet, expanding to 60 cubic feet with those seats folded. These figures are better-than-average for the class. To compare, the previous Kicks had 25.3/53.1 cubic feet. Nissan also claims a widest-in-class cargo area opening, at 40.3 inches, which will make loading something like a stroller an easier task.

Typically, subcompact SUVs gin up about as much excitement as microwaved oatmeal. However, there’s much about the 2026 Nissan Kicks to stir the soul. Having received a full makeover for 2025, the Kicks now lays claim to available all-wheel drive (AWD) and better-than-average ground clearance. We must also admit that we like the rugged styling. Furthermore, Nissan has stuffed it with all manner of advanced tech. Yet, the Kicks remains a real bargain within its class.

2026 Nissan Kicks Pricing

The 2026 Nissan Kicks starts at $23,925 for the base S trim. The top-line SR starts at $28,155.

We’d forget the entry-level S trim, spending another $1,700 on the SV. It adds remote start, advanced proximity keyless entry, wireless phone charging, and bigger 17-inch wheels. As far as sales numbers go, the SV and SR grades go out the door at about the same brisk pace. Opting for all-wheel drive will set you back $1,500, regardless of the trim.
Historically, the Kicks has been on the low end of the subcompact SUV pricing spectrum.

Engine and Transmission

A 4-cylinder engine motivates the Kicks, generating 141 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. This goes to a standard front-wheel-drive configuration, although the Kicks offers the option of all-wheel drive (featuring a Snow mode) with all three trims.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Nissan’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, including roadside assistance. These terms are typical for the class. There’s no free scheduled maintenance.
Safety
The Nissan Kicks earns the Top Safety Pick accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/">IIHS</a>). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings">NHTSA</a>) gave it an overall score of 4 out of 5 stars. The standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control. We’re also happy that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is part of this array as well. The top SR trim gains ProPilot adaptive cruise control/lane-keeping/steering assistance.

Coming off 2025’s redesign, the Kicks is mostly unchanged for 2026. Of note, though, the 12.3-inch touchscreen is now standard across all grades. <a href="https://www.kbb.com/nissan/">Nissan</a> has also made a Cold Weather Package available for the SV and SR trims. It bundles the usual suspects: heated seats, heated outboard mirrors, and the much-appreciated rear seat HVAC vents.

Veering from most other compact SUVs, the Rogue sources its punch from a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. It supplies ample power yet pulls off the impressive feat of being among the segment&#8217;s most powerful and fuel-efficient entries.
Power delivery isn’t quite as responsive or refined as others in the segment, but it&#8217;s an acceptable tradeoff. As for highway ride and urban handling, we think the Rogue&#8217;s manners are on par with the segment’s top sellers.
Impressive Fuel Economy
The Rogue’s fuel economy is an estimated 32 mpg for mixed city-and-highway driving in front-wheel-drive form. That’s more like that of a subcompact SUV than of a compact one.
It is better than the Honda CR-V’s 30 mpg, the Hyundai Tucson’s 28 mpg, or the Kia Sportage’s 28 mpg. Even with all-wheel drive, the Rogue beats those figures, delivering 31 mpg.

Stop-and-Stare Looks

Looks are subjective, but we’ll stick out our necks to praise the Nissan Rogue as one of the better-looking compact SUVs – a view shared in many of our owners&#8217; reviews. The current third-generation Rogue debuted for the 2021 model year, sporting greater character in its exterior design than the previous generations.
A freshening just two years ago further improved things. Buyers may pick one exterior aspect that’s becoming more popular among many new vehicles: available two-tone paint. Whether it&#8217;s dressed in one color or two, we are fans of the Rogue&#8217;s styling.
If you want to crank up the design heat, we recommend the Rock Creek or Dark Armor Special Edition, with unique styling cues.

Infotainment system 
The Rogue is the first Nissan to come with Google built-in, including Google Automotive Services. We find that it simplifies operating the systems it controls. Standard in the SL and Platinum trims, it brings with it a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The entire Rogue lineup has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration.
Front seat relief 
Nissan vehicles are known for their comfortable Zero Gravity front seats, enhanced with enough support to keep weariness at bay during long trips. We have logged some long hours in the Rogue and know firsthand how much these seats prevent fatigue.
Variable compression 
Although this is a highly specialized engine feature, variable compression involves clever engineering that helps the Rogue reconcile the conflicting aims of performance and fuel economy. It pays off in the Rogue&#8217;s great fuel economy.
Expansive rear door openings 
Yes, all compact SUVs have rear passenger doors. But the Rogue’s open a full 90 degrees. More than one of our test drivers with families noted how much easier it is loading a toddler into a child seat, thanks to the Rogue’s wide door openings.
Big door pockets 
A 36-ounce bottle will fit into any of the four doors&#8217; pockets in the Rogue compact SUV. That’s about the size of a typical water container used by hiking types.
Hands-free liftgate operation 
The powered liftgate, standard in the top two trims, opens automatically when a motion sensor is triggered. We found that when juggling a toddler and all the required toddler trappings or with an armload of other stuff, a hands-free liftgate can be a lifesaver.

Long-Haul Comfort

Seating comfort has much to do with the overall vehicle experience. In the Rogue’s case, we appreciate the NASA-inspired Zero Gravity front seats. In our experience, the longer the trip, the bigger their impact. Every trim level has reclining rear seats that split and fold in a 60/40 fashion.
At 38.5 inches, rear legroom is about average for the segment, which is plentiful. Behind the rear seat is a luggage area of 31.6 cubic feet. Folding the rear seat creates a maximum cargo area of 74.1 cubic feet. Although a couple of rivals &#8212; the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson spring to mind – provide more, the Rogue’s cargo numbers are above average for the class.
Naturally, the Rogue&#8217;s finest interior belongs to the Platinum trim, which is nearly a luxury experience with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen and semi-aniline leather seating surfaces with diamond-patterned stitching. The Rock Creek variant comes with special water-repellent simulated leather seating surfaces with contrasting red stitching. Heated front seats are also standard in this model.

The 2026 Nissan Rogue is a well-balanced compact SUV featuring loads of advanced safety/driver-assist technology, comfy furnishings, and impressive fuel economy. Moreover, we think it’s darn good looking, too. What more do you need in a compact SUV? Not much, we say.

Every Rogue derives its go from a 201-horsepower turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. In this sense, the Rogue is an outlier in a segment where most competitors offer a non-turbocharged 4-cylinder. Combined with 225 lb-ft of torque, this is among the most powerful standard engines in the segment and can motivate the Rogue to 60 mph in a respectable span of about eight seconds.
As with most other compact SUVs, front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional (standard in the Rock Creek and Platinum grades). Power runs through an automatic transmission engineered with an emphasis on fuel economy.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Nissan&#8217;s warranty coverage is typical for mainstream carmakers. The limited bumper-to-bumper coverage is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain protection is for five years or 60,000 miles.
Safety Ratings
The <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> (NHTSA) gave the Rogue a maximum 5-Star overall safety rating. In the middle of the Rogue’s lifecycle, the <a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/">Insurance Institute for Highway Safety</a> (IIHS) changed its testing protocol. In two new tests developed after the current generation’s launch, the Rogue posted a score of Acceptable. In several older tests, the Rogue did take the top Good score, which earned it a spot on the 2023 IIHS Top Safety Pick list.
Nissan equips the Rogue with an impressive array of advanced safety and driver-aid technologies like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and lane-departure warning.

In our time with the Highlander and its turbocharged 4-cylinder, we’ve found it potent and torquey, and we don’t miss the old V6 that used to power this family SUV.
Engine aside, the Highlander remains true to its mission, which it carries out well: Serve as a comfortable and adept family hauler. It rolls down all manner of roads with confidence in a relaxed way. Highlander XSE models, with their sport-tuned suspension, add a bit more firmness for those who like to take their corners on the faster side of speed limits.
Toyota’s tried-and-true 8-speed automatic transmission shifts with aplomb, and the Highlander is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. The standard all-wheel-drive system also improves this SUV’s all-weather traction, and the Dynamic Torque Vectoring feature in the upper trims further enhances responsiveness and stability.

Dual 12.3-inch displays 
This high-tech duo of screens is standard in the Limited and Platinum trims. One controls infotainment functions, while the other is a digital driver display that can change with various driving modes.
14 cupholders 
Although we’ve learned that the abundance of cupholders in the Toyota Highlander often results in more bathroom stops on long road trips, it’s a small price to pay for a hydrated family.

Family-Friendly Interior

All Toyota Highlander models have three rows and can seat seven or eight passengers. The XLE and Limited trims are available with a 7- or 8-seat configuration, and the XSE and Platinum models come exclusively with second-row captain’s chairs, which means max seating for seven.
We’ve found plenty of space in the first two rows (front: 42 inches; second row: 38.7 inches). However, legroom is tight in the third row, with 28 inches of space, far less than rivals like the Chevy Traverse and Honda Pilot. The third row in the Highlander is best left to smaller children. There are three seats across the third row, but even if they’re all kids, fitting three people back there is a tight squeeze.
The good news is that the Highlander shares a showroom with the Grand Highlander. One of the main things that makes it so “grand” is its much more adult-friendly third row. It’s significantly roomier with an extra 5.5 inches of third-row legroom.
Now that the LE trim is gone, Toyota’s SofTex faux leather is standard, while genuine leather is optional. Standard creature comforts include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a hands-free power liftgate, and a wireless phone charging pad. Top trims have premium amenities such as heated and ventilated front seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a 10-inch head-up display (HUD).
Regarding cargo capacity for the strollers, groceries, sports gear, and everything else this vehicle will be tasked to carry, the Toyota Highlander has 16 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, 48.4 with them folded, and 84.3 with the second row folded. Those figures are all about midpack in this segment. For reference, the Grand Highlander has 20.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row and a whopping 97.5 cubic feet of room when you fold all the back seats down.

The Toyota Highlander is one of the most trusted names in family SUVs for good reasons. It checks the boxes that families need filled, like 3-row seating and a lot of cupholders, but it’s more than the sum of its parts. It has the long-term reliability, stellar safety ratings, and strong resale value that the Toyota brand is famous for, enhancing the value proposition and peace of mind for the driver. It also has good fuel economy for an SUV this size, and its impressive list of standard features now includes all-wheel drive. The Mazda CX-90 is on the more upscale and sporty side of practical midsize 3-row SUVs.

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 is powered by a 280-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD). The gutsier Turbo S models turn up the heat with 340 hp, putting this Mazda in the same wheelhouse as sportier options in this class like the Ford Explorer ST and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/dodge/durango/">Dodge Durango</a> GT.
The base engine makes more sense for most families. It does an admirable job moving the CX-90 along in swift comfort. We’ve noticed some fussiness in the shifting from the 8-speed transmission, but mostly in Sport mode. Normal mode ensures a reasonably smooth and serene ride.
In addition to enhancing its all-season traction, the standard all-wheel drive system in the Mazda CX-90 also improves handling and grip on dry pavement. Mazda’s clever Kinematic Posture Control applies the brakes to an inside rear wheel during cornering, reducing body roll while optimizing stability. It’s a little thing that makes the Mazda feel a bit more planted in the corners than a typical SUV this size.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Mazda CX-90&#8217;s base engine returns 24 city/28 highway/25 combined mpg. The Turbo S models are similarly efficient, returning 23 city/28 highway/25 combined mpg, but premium fuel is recommended, so fuel costs are quite a bit higher. These fuel economy ratings are above average for this class.

Classy Exterior

In the same way the interior of the Mazda CX-90 feels like it’s from a more premium car, its exterior design has a way of making it look more expensive than it is. Its long hood and prominent grille imply sportiness, while its clean, restrained lines make it look on the more premium side of its class, which it is.

Tri-zone automatic climate control 
We always like to see this comfort feature in a family-oriented vehicle. It comes standard in the Mazda CX-90.
i-Activsense 
The standard i-Activsense bundle of driver assistance tech features includes full-speed adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.
Smartphone connectivity 
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are must-have features for many people, and they come standard in the Mazda CX-90. All but the base trim get wireless connectivity.
Head-up display 
This feature becomes standard in the third trim (Premium Sport). It projects vital information on the windshield directly ahead of the driver, making it a little easier to keep your eyes on the road.
Inline-6 engines 
Pardon us for a second while we geek out on mechanical stuff, but a 6-cylinder engine with all its pistons in a row is naturally smoother than one in a V configuration. BMW has used this setup for years, and Mercedes-Benz is revisiting it. So this is another luxury aspect of the CX-90.
Heated second-row seats 
These are exclusive to the Premium Plus models, which also have heated/ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel. It’s a nice feature for families in colder climates.

Lovely Interior

<a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/">Mazda</a> has been on a roll for several years in delivering the interior design and quality expected in more expensive vehicles. The CX-90 is a prime example of this effort. It looks clean but not too sparse, and everything the driver touches just feels nice.
The centerpiece of this interior is a 10.25-inch infotainment display, which can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen. It’s controlled primarily by a knob on the center console. Oddly, it only becomes a touchscreen when Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in use. The native, knob-operated system has a learning curve but feels natural once you get used to it.
The CX-90 seats between six and eight, depending on the configuration. The 8-passenger setup has a second-row bench seat and three seats in the third row. Seating capacity drops to seven when you opt for second-row captain’s chairs. The upper trims forego the middle seat in the third row and have standard captain’s chairs, so these seat six.
The first and second rows of seats are roomy and comfortable for adults, but the CX-90 is on the small side when it comes to room for cargo and third-row passengers. There are 30.4 inches of third-row legroom, a little more than the Toyota Highlander, but less than the Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/traverse/">Chevy Traverse</a>.
The Mazda’s cargo hold isn’t very useful when all the seats are in use; there’s only 14.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row. That increases to 40 cubic feet behind the second and 74.2 cubic feet behind the first.

The Mazda CX-90 is the brand’s most family-friendly SUV, with standard 3-row seating for up to eight people. Midsize 3-row SUVs are all about practicality, but that doesn’t mean you must compromise on premium features or an exciting driving experience. The CX-90 boasts one of the more luxurious interiors we’ve seen in a non-luxury SUV, with a rich design and upscale materials throughout. It’s also pretty fun to drive thanks to its turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine, which makes a healthy 340 horsepower in the Turbo S trims.
