<p>The entry-level Taycan has one electric motor driving the rear wheels. It makes 402 horsepower, or a brief 429 hp with launch control. In the sprint from standstill to 60 mph, it will do the dash in just 4.5 seconds. For comparison, the BMW i5 eDrive40 has 335 hp and is slower to 60 mph by about 1.2 seconds.</p>
<p>At the other end of the Taycan’s speedy spectrum is the Turbo S (not that there’s actually a turbocharger under the hood — consider it Porsche’s way of saying “hot”) which makes a massive 938 horsepower in launch mode and will hit 60 mph in a mind-bending 2.3 seconds. Then there&#8217;s the Taycan Turbo GT with 1,019 hp and the ability to hit 60 mph in 2.2 seconds &#8212; or 2.1 with the Weissach Package.</p>
<p>Versions of the Taycan with the Sport Chrono package and the Performance Battery Plus have an overtaking button on the steering wheel, for whenever that extra boost is required.</p>
<p>As with other Porsches, speed is just one aspect of the overall heightened driving experience. There’s also the crispness of response, agility, and control. We’ve found the Taycan to have these typical Porsche qualities. Just that it doesn’t use gasoline.</p>
<p>An adaptive air suspension is standard in every 2026 Taycan, so it can also provide a cushioned ride whenever the conditions or the whim dictates. Or there’s the optional Porsche Active Ride suspension available with all-wheel-drive variants. It smooths out bumps as if they didn’t exist, and will keep the car completely (and uncannily) level through corners, as well as under acceleration and braking.</p>
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
<p>Depending on the variant, the Taycan’s maximum ranges span from 252 miles to 318 (this latter figure achieved by the single-motor/rear-drive version with the upgraded 105 kilowatt-hour battery). Most Taycan owners find Porsche’s mileage estimates to be totally achievable — even over-conservative on occasion.</p>
<p>For comparison, the BMW i5 eDrive40 is capable of 295 miles, the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan can run for 308 miles, and the Audi S e-tron GT has a maximum of 300 miles. Other contenders include the Tesla Model S (405 miles) and the Lucid Air, which can run for a phenomenal 512 miles (in Grand Touring trim).</p>
<p>The Taycan is one of the faster-charging electric cars. Porsche says charging a Taycan battery from 10% capacity to 80% at the highest setting takes 18 minutes. Using a home charger with a 240-volt supply, a full recharge takes about 9.5 hours, which is fine for an overnighter.</p>

<p>Size-wise, the Taycan sedan is the same length as the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan and about three inches shorter than the BMW i5. It’s also noticeably lower than both of those rivals. To our eyes, the Taycan definitely has that special Porsche look that manages to evoke the famed 911 sports car while still being a 4-door car. The Black Edition brings wheels and various exterior accents finished in the same color as a witch’s cat. Or hat.</p>
<p>Porsche has also given the Taycan matrix-design LED headlights and LED taillights, and placed charging ports on both sides — which is extra convenient. The company offers a broad palette of colors, including the option of matching paint to a customer-supplied sample.</p>

<p><strong>Wireless phone integration</strong><br />
Cable-free Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the 2026 Taycan lineup. Apple CarPlay allows access to some of the car’s systems. There’s also a cooled wireless charging pad. And an In-Car Video feature allows streaming in the center and front passenger screens.</p>
<p><strong>Porsche Intelligent Range Manager</strong><br />
A standard feature in the 2026 Taycan, this will calculate the most energy-efficient route, taking into account factors like real-time traffic and any charging requirements along the way.</p>
<p><strong>Remote Park Assist</strong><br />
By using a phone app, drivers can control their Taycan with this optional feature, slotting it into (or out of) parallel or perpendicular parking spaces while standing outside.</p>
<p><strong>InnoDrive</strong><br />
Otherwise known as Porsche’s adaptive cruise control. It’s linked to the navigation system, taking topography and curves into account, as well as sensing traffic around the vehicle, and keeping the car in its lane. This is optional in the 2026 Taycan.</p>
<p><strong>Variable Light Control</strong><br />
Available with the panoramic glass roof, it can darken or lighten the glass electronically.</p>
<p><strong>Plug &amp; Charge</strong><br />
Plug &amp; Charge means that as you connect to a charger, the system recognizes your Taycan and uses the credit card information on file for a simple and streamlined process.</p>

<p>In its usual form, the 2026 Taycan luxury electric car has well-bolstered, supportive-yet-comfortable seats for four adults. It will take 6-footers in both rows — any taller types will want to sit up front. A little center rear seat is available as an option.</p>
<p>Appropriately for a German luxury car, the Taycan’s interior is full of quality materials, assembled well into a smart design. Technology coexists with cosseting, as high-resolution displays can share space with vegan-friendly simulated leather and simulated suede. Plus the option of seat belts and contrasting stitching all in silver. This year’s Black Edition offers black leather or a black/Slate Grey scheme.</p>
<p>There’s a decent amount of room in the sedan’s trunk: 14.3 cubic feet, more than the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, less than the BMW i5. All Taycan models have an additional 2.9 cubic feet of stowage under the hood.</p>

<p>The version with the best range — 318 miles — is the base rear-drive Taycan with the upgraded (105 kilowatt-hour) battery. We’re happy enough to recommend this, although we realize that people don’t buy a Taycan just for its range.</p>
<p>The Taycan sure drives like a Porsche should, but charges a premium for such impressive ability. For comparison, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i5/2025/">BMW i5</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/model-s/">Tesla Model S</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqe/">Mercedes-Benz EQE</a> sedan, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lucid/air/">Lucid Air</a> all have lower starting prices. The 670-horsepower <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/s-e-tron-gt/">Audi S e-tron GT</a> is based on the same platform as the Taycan and begins a little below the similarly muscular Taycan GTS.</p>

<p>The Performance Battery Plus (optional in the lower trims at $5,980, included in the GTS and up) replaces the standard item — which has a gross capacity of 89 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and a net of 82.2 kWh — with a 105-kWh battery whose net capacity is 97 kWh. Adding this to the base model achieves the best range of the lineup.</p>
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
<p>Porsche’s new-vehicle warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. These arrangements are typical among European luxury vehicles.</p>
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
<p>The Taycan has not been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, but an independent European test program (Euro NCAP) gave the car a maximum overall score of five stars.</p>

<p>The infotainment system is upgraded this year. Responses are faster, users gain the ability to download third-party apps, and Amazon Alexa can be employed as a digital assistant. Optional audio systems from Bose and Burmester have both been enhanced with Dolby Atmos technology. We think a Burmester/Dolby Atmos setup is one of the best systems we’ve heard, as it provides extraordinary detail and clarity.</p>
<p>There’s also a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/porsche-rolls-out-new-taycan-black-editions/">Black Edition available this year</a> for the base Taycan, Taycan 4, and 4S. Predominantly a cosmetics package (no prizes for guessing the main color), it also includes the upgraded battery, puddle lights, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, lane changing assistance, a 360-degree camera setup, and a Bose surround-sound system. Prices differ according to the variant, but budget around $15,000 to $17,000. We’ve often found that adding equipment like this to a regular model ends up being more expensive, so the Black Edition could almost qualify as a bargain as long as you like the color schemes on offer.</p>
<p>The Taycan launched for the 2020 model year and received a mid-cycle refresh last year.</p>

<p>The 2026 Porsche Panamera is a multi-faceted large luxury sedan with many impressive talents.</p>


<p>Buyers of a new Panamera have a choice of drivetrains ranging from a more-than-adequate 348 horsepower to a gargantuan 771 hp. They can zip from a standstill to 60 mph in five seconds (sweetly brisk) or 2.8 seconds — incredible for a large luxury car or virtually anything else on four wheels. The top Turbo S E-Hybrid also has a top speed of 202 mph. Another of our favorite large luxury sedans, the BMW 760i xDrive, gathers up its 536 horses to hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.</p>
<p>An air suspension is standard, so the Panamera can do comfort as well as it does speed. The plug-in hybrids also offer a more sophisticated active suspension for a wider range of cushioning or connection. It keeps the car flat, eliminating body roll through fast corners, and prevents any pitching under heavy braking or hard acceleration. A rear-wheel steering system is another Panamera option, improving agility and maneuverability even further.</p>
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
<p>The base Panamera achieves 21 mpg in combined city/highway driving. It’s the same figure with all-wheel drive (AWD). That’s a little thirstier than the Mercedes-Benz S 500 (24 mpg combined) and much thirstier than the base BMW 740i (28 mpg combined).</p>
<p>Porsche says the plug-in hybrid batteries are capable of being recharged in 2.5 hours.</p>


Evolved Exterior

<p>With a design more evolutionary than revolutionary, this latest generation of Panamera will not shock any onlookers. That’s fine by us. We like how it evokes the famed 911 sports car. The headlights are different, with matrix-LED technology as standard. And we think the taillights are cool — forming an unbroken bar from one side to the other.</p>
<p>Unlike its conventional sedan competitors, the Panamera has a hatchback. That brings some cargo-carrying versatility while maintaining a sleek roof line.</p>


<p><strong>Navigation systems</strong><br />
Those in the hybrid models also take fuel efficiency into account when planning a route, which we think is quite ingenious.</p>

<p><strong>Porsche Active Ride</strong><br />
Although the Panamera has an air suspension as standard, this optional setup (standard with the top Turbo S E-Hybrid) has an electro-hydraulic pump for each damper, enabling the Panamera to reduce body movement to an even greater degree. It will also raise the ride height for easier entries and exits.</p>
<p><strong>Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes</strong><br />
A famous and famously expensive option in Porsche vehicles. They withstand all sorts of harsh treatment without fading, warping or wearing. A good thing to have when your luxury car can develop 771 horsepower and, fortunately, they’re standard with the Turbo S E-Hybrid.</p>
<p><strong>Sport Chrono package</strong><br />
Another well-known Porsche feature, this includes a stopwatch and a launch control mode for the automatic transmission. It’s standard in the GTS and E-Hybrids, optional in the two lower trims.</p>
<p><strong>Assistance package</strong><br />
This options bundle includes a head-up display, night vision, and a screen for the front passenger.</p>


High-Quality Interior

<p>Porsche keeps switchgear to a minimum in the 2026 Panamera. Various functions are accessible through the screens, and the car comes with a 12.6-inch digital driver information display as standard. An optional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger is not visible for the driver.</p>
<p>The high center console gives a cockpit-like ambiance, underlining the company’s sporting heritage. Naturally for a luxury car, there’s also a cosseting side. Porsche says it has improved the quality of the Panamera’s seat foam (although we never felt the previous generation was lacking in this respect), and makes leather-free upholstery available. Other little touches include finless air vents that can be preset along with preferred climate settings.</p>
<p>Occupant space is perfectly reasonable for average-sized adults in both rows. The luggage area behind the rear seats measures an eminently useful 17.4 cubic feet. This expands to 46.9 cubic feet when those seats are folded down. The plug-in hybrid variants reduce these figures slightly.</p>


<p>Admittedly, the Panamera starts quite expensive and finishes at a point where some people might be dabbing tears from their eyes. For buyers with more accommodating budgets, however, there’s a two-for-one deal happening here.</p>
<p>From the outside, looking in and looking on, the Panamera is a large luxury car. It’s prestigious, roomy, full of opulent touches, and packed with tech. From the driver’s seat, another car can emerge, one that has a direct line of descent from the awesome 911 sports car, the kind of thing at which <a href="http://www.kbb.com/porsche">Porsche</a> excels.</p>
<p>That’s not to say the Panamera has a firm and sporty ride — it can be as smooth as the driver and occupants want it to be. It’s more like an undertone of sportiness, a composure and precision that becomes more assertive when the driver goes off for a solo jaunt around some entertaining roads. It also feels reassuringly stable on the freeway.</p>
<p>Maybe you can’t always please everyone, but the Panamera makes a Herculean effort to please as many people as possible. Well, those who can afford it.</p>

<p>If rear-wheel drive (RWD) is acceptable, we have no qualms recommending the base Panamera, as it’s already well stocked with standard equipment. This approach might also leave room in the budget to add a few options, which tend to be expensive (we have a gift for understatement).</p>
<p>The other large flagship car with big driver appeal is the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/7-series/">BMW 7 Series</a>, starting just over $100,000. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/s-class/">Mercedes-Benz S-Class</a> is still the king of this opulent hill and begins in the same kind of ballpark as the Panamera.</p>

<h3>Best-In-Class Resale Values</h3>
<p>The Panamera retains its value better than any other large luxury car. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.</p>


<p>The Panamera’s base engine is a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 making 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option — then the car is called the Panamera 4.</p>
<p>The plug-in hybrid Panamera 4 E-Hybrid augments that turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 with an electric motor for a substantial total of 463 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid retains that setup while boosting output to 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.</p>
<p>The Turbo S E-Hybrid brings in a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter to pair with an electric motor for a total of 670 hp and 685 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is in the range-topping Turbo S E-Hybrid, but this drivetrain generates a massive 771 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. This output makes it the most powerful Panamera the company has produced.</p>
<p>The sporty Panamera GTS employs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that sends 493 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels.</p>
<p>Every Panamera has an 8-speed automatic transmission.</p>
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
<p>Porsche’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Roadside assistance is also included on the same terms. This coverage is typical for a luxury European marque. High-voltage batteries in the plug-in hybrid models are guaranteed for eight years or 100,000 miles. Porsche also offers a complimentary first service at 10,000 miles or one year.</p>
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
<p>This generation of Panamera has not been crash-tested by any independent agencies, which is quite common among high-priced, low-volume vehicles. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection (Warn and Brake Assist), plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert (Lane Change Assist).</p>


<p>This year brings a few tech upgrades. The infotainment system has been tweaked for faster responses and now allows users to download third-party apps. Amazon Alexa can take on the duties of a voice assistant. Both optional audio systems from Bose and Burmester have been enhanced with Dolby Atmos technology for exceptional clarity.</p>

<p>The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is powered by a 138-horsepower gas-electric hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with an electronically controlled continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. That’s notably less than the 200 hp of the Honda Civic Hybrid, a more entertaining option in this class.</p>
<p>In our experience, the Corolla Hybrid is an agreeable car to drive with easy manners. However, we’re not surprised about where this car’s priorities lie. The trade-off for its excellent fuel economy ratings is less power and torque than the non-hybrid version of the Corolla.</p>
<p>We also noticed the brakes can be a bit grabby, which isn’t uncommon among hybrids. If you’re already experienced with hybrids, you may not even notice. However, if you drive a Corolla Hybrid as your first hybrid, the brake feel may take some getting used to.</p>
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
<p>The Toyota Corolla Hybrid gets up to 53 city/46 highway/50 combined mpg. Upgrading to all-wheel drive or the bigger wheels on the SE trim reduces these efficiency ratings a bit, but even the least efficient version of the Corolla Hybrid gets 44 combined mpg. For context, the most efficient version of the non-hybrid Corolla gets up to 35 combined mpg.</p>
<p>Comparing max combined fuel economy ratings, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is a little more efficient, getting up to 54 mpg. The Toyota Prius is still the efficiency king of this class, getting up to 57 mpg, while the Honda Civic Hybrid returns up to 49 mpg.</p>
