Driving Impressions

The G 63 AMG corrals its considerable 577 hp to sprint from standing to 60 mph in a fleeting 4.2 seconds, which is simultaneously crazy and wonderful for a large and heavy SUV.
The AMG G 63 is the most engaging G-Class, and its standard adaptive suspension offers a broader range of comfort and sportiness than the non-AMG (which offers the adaptive suspension as an option — we recommend it). If absolute smoothness and serenity are high on the list of priorities, though, we’d say check out the plusher and more tranquil Range Rover.
Fuel Economy
Unbelievably, the 2025 Mercedes-AMG G 63 gets 1 mpg better gas mileage than the base non-AMG variant at 15 mpg combined. That’s not a particularly impressive figure, but it’s the reality of preposterously quick acceleration of a large, rectilinear shape through the atmosphere.
That’s a reality the competition must also face; the BMW X5 M returns the same 15 mpg as the G 63, and most of the rest of the segment is below 20 mpg combined, with less powerful models managing somewhat greater efficiency.

Exterior

The iconic blocky outline of the G-Class hasn’t changed much since it was first introduced in Europe in 1979, and that’s just fine by us. The satisfying mechanical “ka-chunk” of the doors closing likewise remains the same.
The G 63 has 20-inch alloy wheels, side exhaust pipes, and a model-specific grille. The spare wheel is mounted on the rear door (instead of stowed underneath), maximizing ground clearance and departure angles when off-roading. And the door itself is hinged at the side — no heavy tailgate to lift.

Offroad Cockpit 
Accessed via the digital instrument screen, this system shows off-road-specific data like tire pressures, steering angle, elevation, and other details. It’s a great complement to the virtual transparent hood feature.
AMG Ride Control suspension 
Some buyers may want to maximize the off-road potential of their new G-Class luxury SUV. We’ve found that one way is to select the AMG Performance Package offered with the G 63 for about $4,400. It includes an off-road-optimized adaptive suspension.
Burmester audio 
This 18-speaker, 760-watt 3D surround sound audio system is standard equipment. To our ears, it’s a truly excellent system. Its drilled metal speaker grilles look pretty nice, too.
Guard 360 security system 
Another standard feature, this system keeps an eye on your vehicle while it’s parked, potentially detecting if it’s been damaged. It leverages the vehicle’s built-in Surround View cameras to monitor the whole exterior.
Extensive standard safety tech 
It might not be top-of-mind with a passion purchase like the AMG G 63, but having the latest in active safety technology onboard is reassuring when you’re all loaded up with family and friends. The G 63 comes with attention assist, active lane-keeping, dynamic cruise control, traffic sign assist, and much more.
Wireless charging &amp; phone integration 
Nothing says luxury like complete freedom from cables. Here, you can charge your phone, pair via NFC, and use both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, gloriously free of cord clutter.

Interior

Refined and luxurious without becoming impractical, the 2025 G 63’s cabin is inviting, fitted with leather upholstery, wood trim, heated front seats, and other luxuries. Running boards and a grab handle make it easier to climb up into the G 63.
Once inside, you’ll find fair space, with 39.5 inches of legroom in the second row and 37.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seats. Fold the second row, and that expands to 68.6 cubic feet — but it’s worth pointing out that the space is narrower than in some competitors. The Range Rover has more space in general, with up to 83.5 cubic feet of total cargo capacity.

The 2026 BMW i7 is an extremely effective and capable all-electric large luxury sedan with a maximum range of 314 miles.

Power, Ride, and Handling

The entry-level i7 eDrive50 has a single electric motor driving the rear wheels to the tune of 449 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The i7 xDrive60 enjoys 536 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque. The M70 xDrive comes with an awesome 650 hp and 748 lb-ft of torque &#8212; or a temporary 811 lb-ft when using M Sport Boost or Launch Control. These latter two variants have all-wheel drive as standard.
Given the size and weight of the BMW i7, it has some impressive acceleration (as long as you don’t mind range being curtailed), zipping from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, 4.5 seconds, or an “are you kidding us?” 3.5 seconds in the M70.
Such is the joy of electric motors. They play into BMW’s metaphorical hands by being able to generate a lot of power, yet do so almost silently, which is a perfect combination for a luxury vehicle. Acceleration is remarkably swift yet serene. Those driving talents are amplified in the 650-hp i7 M70 xDrive.
For competition, we’re looking at 4.2 seconds for the Mercedes-EQ EQS (with the super-expensive EQS 580 model), 3.0 seconds for the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance. And supposedly 1.99 seconds for the Tesla Model S Plaid (not counting the first foot of rollout).
We’ve always contended that the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/7-series/">BMW 7 Series</a> (reviewed separately) is one of the most enjoyable large luxury sedans from the vantage point of the driver’s seat. Even though this closely related i7 electric sedan is big for the class and weighs about three tons, we still notice that same appeal. BMW has made the i7 feel a lot more agile than its specifications might imply. While still remaining supremely comfortable, of course.
We’ve absolutely loved driving this M70 variant, regardless of how much power we might or might not have used during our time behind the wheel. Every mile is a reminder of how good BMW is at tuning suspensions and calibrating accelerator response.
Not every day is spent gliding along the highway or breaking free of city limits, however. Which is where one-pedal driving &#8212; another attribute of electric vehicles &#8212; comes into its own. By setting brake regeneration to its maximum (easily done), the i7’s progress is controlled just by pressing on the accelerator or easing off. It’s only necessary to hit the brake pedal when a more urgent halt is needed.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Wheel size impacts range; larger wheels usually reduce the distance. The i7 eDrive50 is estimated to run for up to 314 miles on a fully charged battery—that’s with 19-inch wheels. The i7 xDrive60 has a best figure of 311 miles. We said “usually” just now because the M70 xDrive is capable of 285 miles on 21-inch wheels or 268 miles with 20-inchers.
Compare all this with 367 miles for the Mercedes EQS 450 4Matic sedan, 410 miles for the Tesla Model S, and an impressive 512 miles for the Lucid Air.
Charging times among these contenders are close. The i7 can regain around 90 miles of range in 10 minutes when connected to a fast charger, similar to the EQS. Lucid and Tesla both say 200 miles is possible in 15 minutes for their cars (or even 12 minutes with the Lucid Air Grand Touring).

Imposing Exterior

Compared with other large luxury sedans, the BMW i7 is big. It’s about a foot longer than the Mercedes-EQ EQS Sedan and the Tesla Model S. However, the Model S remains the widest.
The i7 M70 xDrive comes with various aerodynamic additions, a lot of black touches, the option of an illuminated grille, Frozen matte finishes, and eight two-tone color combinations. One such combo is the Liquid Copper lower section with a Black Sapphire Metallic roof, hood, and trunk lid.

Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof 
This spectacular standard feature has customizable colors and an illuminated graphic design that lets users create their mood within the i7.
Adaptive Recuperation 
Using information from the navigation system to optimize regenerative braking, this feature helps to optimize the BMW i7’s efficiency. It can capture and preserve electrical energy (adding to the range) without requiring any changes to your usual driving style.
BMW Curved Display 
This dash is one large unit containing the Live Cockpit digital driver information display and the touchscreen for a feature-rich iDrive infotainment system that includes navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio system.
IconicSounds 
Created by film composer Hans Zimmer (Google him, he’s done a few Batman films, plus “Dune,” “Gladiator,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and loads more), the i7 offers a choice of sounds to suit moods, performance, etc. They can make you feel like you’re in your own futuristic movie.
M Sport Package 
Although there’s an M version of the i7, some buyers may be happy just with a sportier look rather than going the whole M hog. This options package includes Shadowline exterior trim and M Aerodynamic alloy wheels. The M Sport Professional package adds even more black trim, a rear spoiler, and upgraded M Sport brakes.
BMW Theater Screen 
No mere rear-seat entertainment system, this is a massive 31.3-inch screen with up to 8K resolution and Amazon Fire TV compatibility. It flips down to use and stows in the ceiling when not in use. We’ve enjoyed this feature a lot.

Impressive Interior

The BMW i7’s cabin is sure to meet or more likely exceed anyone’s expectations of a flagship luxury sedan. The designs and technology are all state-of-the-art. Interior space is generous. And we’ve found the seats to be extraordinarily comfortable. Extended Merino leather upholstery and oak trim come as standard.
With the BMW Individual Composition program, buyers can tailor the interior exactly to their liking. There’s a choice of six colors for the leather, and interior trim options range from carbon fiber to four types of wood.
For those who prefer to be chauffeured, an optional Luxury Rear Seating package upgrades the back seats with ventilation and massaging functions. And goodness, those headrests are pillowy.

For a heady combination of power, tech, comfort, and prestige, the BMW i7 is hard to beat. It doesn’t matter which seat you’re in, the i7 offers a lot of features and engagement &#8212; including that special <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> driver appeal. We think the i7 is one of the finest cars of its class. The lineup consists of three variants that go from a relatively modest conveyance with the best range, to a muscular machine with dynamics to match.

The eDrive50 (with 19-inch wheels) provides the best range of 314 miles and is a popular choice. However, the more powerful xDrive60 (range: 311 miles) also sells relatively well.

Battery and Efficiency

Every 2026 i7 has a battery with a usable capacity of 105.6 kilowatt-hours (kWh). That’s quite a hefty amount for today’s lithium-ion technology. BMW’s electric motors don’t use magnets and so do not require rare-earth materials like cobalt. They’re known as current-excited motors and are manufactured in-house.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This coverage is typical for the luxury sector. The i7’s high-voltage battery and other EV components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. BMW also includes four years/unlimited miles of roadside assistance, and free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The i7 has yet to be crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, but that shouldn’t deter buyers. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade ESV is a three-row full-size luxury SUV with great tech and a uniquely American sense of style and comfort.

Amply powerful and delightfully refined, the 2025 Escalade ESV is both responsive and smooth from the driver’s seat. It’s not the most powerful or quickest full-size SUV around — the Navigator L and Grand Wagoneer L both offer more power — but it’s as powerful as it needs to be, and few will ever dig into its vast reserves.
The Escalade ESV is also surprisingly easy to drive and maneuver, despite its length and capacious interior. On the open highway, it’s a stable, comfortable devourer of miles.
Of course, if you should somehow find yourself needing a 3-row SUV that can tow a boat and also hit 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds, there’s the 682-hp Escalade-V ESV, a truly maniacal masterpiece of engineering excess.
Fuel Economy
Despite its extra size, the 2025 Escalade ESV pays no penalty in terms of gas mileage, rating the same as its smaller counterpart at 17 mpg combined in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) form, or 16 mpg combined with 4-wheel drive (4WD). That’s exactly on par with the Grand Wagoneer L and Navigator L, which also get 17 mpg combined ratings. The smaller Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 gets 21 mpg, but upgrading to the more powerful GLS 580 with its V8 engine nets just 16 mpg combined.

Inimitably and unmistakably a Cadillac, the Escalade ESV is a large, tall, long, well-proportioned full-size SUV that wears its bold design elements with grace. For 2025, that exterior has been updated with newly vertical LED lighting, unique grille treatments for different trims, and the newly available 24-inch wheels — the largest ever offered for the Escalade.
The new paint shades available for 2025 add to the premium aesthetic with the deep gray-green Aegean Stone, a gold-flecked blue called Deep Sea Metallic, or the light bronze Latte Metallic.

55-inch digital dashboard 
This massive screen is impressive in itself, and it provides access to a comprehensive suite of tech, including night vision, available on the V-Series and Platinum trims.
Super Cruise 
Hands-free driving is not only possible, it’s pleasant, and available on hundreds of thousands of miles of mapped roadways, and the system is now standard on the Escalade ESV. In our testing, Super Cruise is easily among the top hands-free systems.
AKG audio system 
With 19 speakers, even the “standard” AKG audio system in the 2025 Escalade ESV is impressive, but if you’re a genuine audiophile — or you just like to max things out — higher trims get a 36-speaker system, and a 40-speaker version is available if you opt for the Executive Second Row package.
Magnetic Ride Control 
This adaptive suspension system becomes standard equipment in the Premium Luxury trim and higher models. Enhancing both comfort and control, it is well worth the price of entry.
Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist 
As easy as the Escalade ESV is to maneuver for something its size, it is still quite sizable. So no surprise that a system that lets the ESV park itself is a welcome companion, especially in tricky or tight spaces.
Power-operated doors 
This power-opening door system, standard in the Platinum and V-Series models, takes soft-close doors to the next level, adding the ability to open as you approach with the key fob, for example. All four doors can be opened or closed with the touch of a button.

The Escalade ESV’s cabin is an impressive space, and not just because it’s so vast. Material quality is excellent, and the dash-spanning screen, infotainment touchscreen, and digital instrument cluster add the glossy sheen of the cutting edge. Even the Escalade ESV’s head-up display is handsome, with bright colors and easy adjustments.
The second row is nearly as spacious as the front, with 41.7 inches of legroom, on par with the Navigator L and about an inch less than the Grand Wagoneer L. The Escalade ESV’s third row is spacious, offering 36.6 inches of legroom, a bit less than the Navigator L or the Grand Wagoneer L, but about 1.7 inches more than the non-ESV Escalade.
Cargo volume is one of the Escalade ESV’s greatest strengths in the segment, with its 142.8 cubic feet of maximum volume and 41.5 cubic feet behind the third row both near the top of the class. The Grand Wagoneer L, for example, offers about 10 cubic feet less total cargo capacity, but also has about 3 cubic feet more space behind the third row. Engine & Transmission

All non-V-series Escalade ESVs share an engine: the brand’s familiar and potent 6.2-liter V8 rated for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with available 4-wheel drive.
The Escalade-V ESV, however, gets a supercharged version of the same engine rated at 682 hp and 653 lb-ft of torque. The ESV V comes with standard all-wheel drive.
Both versions of the ESV use a 10-speed automatic transmission. When properly configured, the Escalade ESV can tow up to 7,100 pounds.
Warranty
The Escalade ESV is covered by Cadillac’s new-vehicle warranty for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is a typical warranty duration for the luxury segment. The vehicle’s first scheduled maintenance is free, and Cadillac also includes roadside assistance and a powertrain warranty for six years or 70,000 miles.
Safety
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) has crash-tested the refreshed Escalade or Escalade ESV, but the pre-refresh version earned a 4-Star rating from NHTSA. Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with forward collision warning and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, a 360-degree camera system, and Super Cruise hands-free driving.

What's new for 2025

As the midcycle refresh for the Escalade ESV (this generation was launched for the 2021 model year), the 2025 Escalade ESV sees a range of interior and exterior upgrades, plus new equipment and technology. The front and rear of the vehicle’s exterior are freshened, with details drawn from the Celestiq and Lyriq EVs, including a standard illuminated crest in the grille. Also new are 24-inch wheels, the largest yet offered on an Escalade, and a range of new exterior colors.
The 2025 Escalade ESV’s cabin draws on the Escalade IQ’s aesthetic and technology, including a full-width 55-inch display, AKG 19-speaker audio, and standard Super Cruise. An Executive Second Row package adds luxury and productivity features.

The 2026 Kia EV4 is powered by a 201-horsepower electric motor and front-wheel drive. We had a chance to drive the EV4 around Seoul, South Korea, and found the single-motor powertrain perfectly adequate for big-city driving. It’s quick enough for maneuvering through an urban environment, and more than up to the task of hustling to highway speeds reasonably quickly. Once we did get on the highway, the levels of comfort and quietness were quite pleasant.
If you’re looking for a sportier EV, Kia says dual-motor (all-wheel drive) and GT variants of the EV4 are coming at some point in the future. For now, it only comes with the single-motor powertrain and front-wheel drive. That front-wheel-drive setup can make the front end a little squirrely when driven aggressively, but this isn’t an aggressive kind of car. It’s a small EV that likes to be driven in normal, everyday conditions, and it does so with impressive efficiency and comfort.
A unique feature in the Kia EV4 that we expect to see in future Kia EVs is the i-Pedal 3.0 system. It’s a new take on the one-pedal driving system that most EVs have. When in i-Pedal mode, there are three different levels of regenerative braking within the one-pedal driving mode, allowing you to customize it just how you like. It’s also the first iteration of i-Pedal that works in reverse. We love the customizability this brings to the electric driving experience, and the fact that it works in reverse means you can be in one-pedal mode all the time.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The Kia EV4 gets an estimated 235 miles of range in the Light trim, while the bigger battery in the Wind and GT-Line trims is good for an estimated 330-mile range. These range ratings are very similar to the single-motor versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 goes up to 363 miles with rear-wheel drive and 346 miles with all-wheel drive.
When we drove the EV4 in South Korea, we experienced its quick charging time firsthand. Kia estimates that the standard battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 29 minutes with DC fast charging, while the longer-range battery takes 31 minutes to charge the same amount. A nice perk of the EV4 is a native North American Charging System (NACS) charge port, which is what Tesla Supercharger stations use.

Sleek Exterior

The exterior design of the Kia EV4 could prove polarizing. The high-tech-looking front end is similar to the Kia EV9 3-row SUV, which we like, but things get a little weird in the back. It has the design of a fastback sedan, but it has a traditional trunk with kind of an odd opening. We wish the whole rear glass would lift up like a hatchback. Speaking of which, a more visually cohesive hatchback version of the EV4 is available in Europe, but it’s not coming to the States.

330-mile range 
The Kia EV4 achieves an impressive maximum driving range of up to 330 miles. This is more than enough to cover the daily commute for almost all Americans and ease range anxiety.
DC fast charging 
When the battery does run low, the Kia EV4 boasts fast charging times. With DC fast charging, it can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in 29-31 minutes, depending on the battery.
NACS port 
We love that the Kia EV4 comes standard with a native North American Charging System (NACS) charge port. This is what Teslas use, which means the EV4 can top off its battery at Tesla Supercharger stations without needing an adapter.
i-Pedal 3.0 
The EV4 is the first Kia EV to use the new i-Pedal 3.0 system. It’s a new take on one-pedal driving that has three degrees of intensity for regenerative braking, and it even works in reverse.
Widescreen display 
This wide display houses a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 5-inch HVAC control screen, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. It all comes together nicely to give the EV4’s interior a high-tech look and feel.
Highway Driving Assist 
We’re big fans of Kia’s Highway Driving Assist System. It’s a very natural-feeling semi-autonomous highway driving system that keeps you centered in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you.

High-Tech Interior

The Kia EV4’s interior design is minimalist without being too sparse and high-tech without being overwhelming. The interior’s centerpiece is one wide display stretching across the dash housing a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 5-inch screen in between them with HVAC controls. Don’t worry; there are also physical switches to handle heat and air duties. We found the middle screen to be a little hard to see and control, so we’re grateful for those redundant switches. There are also haptic controls below the screen for things like maps and media.
The front seats are spacious enough for most adults to be comfortable on long-distance drives. These supportive seats, combined with user-friendly controls, make the EV4 a nice place to sit in highway traffic or dart around town. It’s even available with reclining leg supports for relaxing while waiting at a charging station. Other upscale options we were delighted to find were heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a memory driver’s seat, and Harman Kardon premium audio.
The back seats are pretty comfortable as well, but it has a problem often seen in smallish sedans like this. Although rear legroom is generous, taller adults may find that the seat bottoms are too close to the floor, and their knees stick up a bit uncomfortably. That said, these rear seats are very kid-friendly, and we like that a rear center armrest is available.
Then there’s the trunk. The trunk space is pretty good at 17.3 cubic feet. However, although the EV4 kind of looks like a hatchback, it has a stubby trunk lid that creates an awkward opening. We just wish that the whole rear glass section would open up to make it that much easier to load and unload.

The Kia EV4 is an enticing new entry in the electric vehicle market. This sedan may look futuristic and high-tech — and it is — but it’s also an inviting, comfortable, and practical car. A few things that make it high-tech are its 30-inch display, Highway Driving Assist, and i-Pedal 3.0 system (more on that below), and the stuff that makes it practical includes its 330-mile max range, class-leading warranty coverage, and super fast charging. Whether you’re shopping for your first EV or you&#8217;re an early adopter looking for your next ride, the Kia EV4 is a welcome new addition to electric transportation.

The 2025 BMW X5 M is an incredibly fast, luxurious, and capable midsize performance luxury SUV that tests the limits of what’s possible for its size.

Power, Ride and Handling

With a fantastic supply of horsepower and torque, a smooth-shifting transmission, and a race-tuned suspension, the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition is one of the most fun SUVs for just about any amount of money. BMW says the X5 M Competition can hit 60 mph from a stop in just 3.7 seconds and can carry on to a top speed of 155 mph. Opt for the M Driver’s Package, and maximum speed is raised to 177 mph. Brisk indeed.
That said, the X5 M’s focus on cornering competence does require a bit of trade-off with outright passenger comfort. That’s not to say the X5 M is too harsh, but it’s likely to be harsher than some buyers would prefer. Fortunately, that’s where the non-M variants of the X5 shine.
Fuel Economy
Gas mileage is one of the only things the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition can’t do well. Its combined rating of 15 mpg is weighed down by a 13 mpg city rating and 18 mpg on the highway. Neither of those figures is likely to impress, and the X5 M’s range suffers as a result, at 328 miles compared to the M60i’s 416-mile range or the sDrive40i/xDrive40i, which achieve 548 miles of range on a tank.
Compared to the competition, the X5 M’s fuel economy is about on par, but still toward the back of the bunch. The GLS 63 AMG is rated for 15 mpg combined as well, while the Range Rover Sport SV manages 18 mpg combined, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo (a plug-in hybrid with 24 miles of all-electric range) runs to an impressive 22 mpg combined.

Prestigious and Pumped-Up Exterior

Prestigious and performance-focused, the 2025 X5 M’s exterior is at once instantly recognizable as a BMW and yet still fresh and modern. Individual elements for the X5 M’s appearance include large front air intakes on both sides and below the matte-black grille, plus black exterior mirror caps and badges, rear diffuser, and 4-inch dual-twin exhaust tailpipes.

Monster hybrid power 
It won&#8217;t get the best gas mileage, but with 617 hp and a twin-turbo V8’s song, the X5 M’s powertrain is wonderfully responsive.
Bold acceleration 
Sure, some vehicles can accelerate to 60 mph in less time, but few are as large and luxurious as the X5 M Competition. For a face-melting family vehicle that’s not an EV, this is great.
Active exhaust system 
As one member of our staff put it, “Save your local exorcist in the nav system; that active exhaust sounds demonic.” Not bad for a hybrid, eh?
Fantastic handling 
It’s not just good for an SUV. The X5 M Competition handles incredibly well. Thank the excellent engineering of BMW’s finest, and the intelligent application of an adaptive suspension, smart traction management, and a responsive cockpit.
BMW Curved Display 
This large, high-res, colorful display sits behind the steering wheel and spans the center of the dashboard. It gives all the usual information and controls, but with a subtle curvature that ensures the driver is the focal point.
Driving Assistant Professional 
Bundling BMW’s Traffic Jam Assistant and the radar-and-camera-based active assistance of the Driving Assistant package, this $1,700 option is a smart pick for enhanced safety and easier commutes.

Premium and Practical Interior

The X5 M’s interior builds on the base model’s spacious, comfortable, and premium cabin with M-specific details like an M logo in the ambient light bar below the front passenger trim, an M leather steering wheel, full Merino leather upholstery, and carbon fiber gearshift paddles.
Behind the second row is 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold down those rear seats, and it more than doubles to 72.3 cubic feet. The GLS 63 AMG has a bit more space at 42.7 cubic feet behind the second row or 84.7 cubic feet with the second row folded. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid offers just 22.7/56.6 cubic feet, placing the X5 right in the middle.

Last year, BMW launched a new V8 engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system for the X5 M Competition, which carries forward to the 2025 model. This 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 is paired with the electric assist for a total system output of 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. All X5 Ms use an 8-speed automatic transmission and come standard with xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD).

BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties are co-extensive, lasting four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is a typical warranty length and coverage for the luxury segment, although some brands do offer longer warranties. BMW also includes scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which is a bit better than typical for the segment. Hybrid batteries in the relevant models are covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty.
