Where the non-S model is focused on comfort while retaining rapidity, the SQ8 takes sportiness up several notches, with 500 horsepower and more precise handling. That big power figure enables 4-second sprints from zero to 60 mph, along with a top speed of 155 mph. That, in turn, means wide smiles for everyone in the cabin.
Of course, the SQ8 isn’t just about straight-line speed. The SQ8’s performance upgrades include a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, along with all-wheel steering for better low-speed maneuverability and greater high-speed stability.
Fuel Economy
The SQ8 nets 17 mpg combined (15 city, 21 highway), which is a bit lower than most of its competitive set, which averages 19.5 mpg combined. That said, all of these high-performance SUVs are a bit thirstier than their regular counterparts — that&#8217;s the tradeoff for the extra performance.

It’s hard to call a 6-figure, 500-hp luxury SUV understated, but the Audi SQ8’s exterior does its best to demonstrate restraint. Rather than telegraphing its ability with brightly colored trim and giant aerodynamic surfaces, the SQ8 adopts a subtler look that still clues in the cognoscenti.
For 2025, two new appearance packages offer a chance to undo some of that subtlety, however, adding either carbon fiber visual accents to the exterior (Carbon package) or red-themed contrast stitching, red seat belts, and other interior details (Audi Sport package).

Audi’s reputation for clean design, excellent materials, and user-focused ergonomics shines through in the SQ8’s cabin. Clean and modern without gimmicks, the SQ8’s interior is at once business-like and welcoming.
Front and rear passengers have generous legroom (more than 40 inches in all positions), which is considerably more than some rivals, including the BMW X6 M60i.
Being an SUV, the SQ8 does have decent cargo space, but its coupe-ish styling brings a few compromises for the sake of looks. Still, the SQ8 offers nearly 34 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, or more than 60 cubic feet behind the first. That’s more than the X6 M60i, and on the larger end of this midsize luxury coupe-SUV sector.

The Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle is an interesting piece of engineering, but it&#8217;s less practical than a typical EV for most people.

Power, Ride, and Handling 

The 2025 Toyota Mirai is powered by a 181-horsepower electric motor matched with a single-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive. Although it’s a fairly large sedan to be making less than 200 horsepower, we’re content with the moderately quick acceleration courtesy of the instantaneous burst of torque from the electric motor. We appreciate the enthusiastic launches, as well as the smooth power spool when not burying the throttle in the floorboard. However, as more powerful electric vehicles (EVs) with dual-motor options become more common in this price range, the Mirai’s lackluster performance makes its price tag hard to justify.
The Toyota Mirai drives like an electric car because that’s technically what it is, despite its fuel source being hydrogen rather than a big battery pack. Ultimately, the Toyota Mirai is an alternative fuel car that prioritizes plush over performance, excelling in the comfort category. We love the deliberate power delivery and the comfortable, library-quiet ride.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Why go with an FCEV rather than a BEV? Range and charging are the big benefits of the hydrogen option. The Mirai has an outstanding maximum range rating of up to 402 miles; that 400-mile milestone is rare among BEVs outside of trucks with massive batteries. Also, while BEVs take hours to recharge, the Mirai takes about five minutes, similar to filling a gas tank. The tricky part is actually finding a place to refuel, so make sure you live somewhere with a decent hydrogen refueling infrastructure if you’re considering the Mirai.

The name &#8220;Mirai&#8221; comes from the Japanese word for &#8220;future,&#8221; and that’s sort of the vibe we get from the exterior design of this hydrogen fuel cell sedan. We think the styling walks the line between subtle and futuristic. Furthermore, we love the liftback look and sharp light signature. In terms of size, the Mirai has dimensions almost identical to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/es/">Lexus ES</a>.

Hydrogen fuel cell powertrain 
The Toyota Mirai is one of the few hydrogen fuel cell cars on the market. Its only tailpipe emission is water.
Lexus-like luxury 
If the Mirai seems expensive for a Toyota sedan, getting in the driver’s seat may change your mind. The Mirai is a premium sedan with many standard features and interior quality that are on par with Lexus.
402-mile range 
The Mirai achieves an impressive range of up to 402 miles between fill-ups, which is better than the average EV.
5-minute refuel time 
Unlike a typical EV that takes hours to charge, refueling the Mirai is about as fast as refueling a gas-powered car — no waiting around for hours at charging stations.
Toyota Audio Multimedia 
The standard infotainment system in the Mirai has a 12.3-inch screen, navigation, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a JBL 14-speaker premium audio system.
Complimentary fuel 
Toyota offers complimentary fuel for up to three years or $15,000 when you lease and for six years or $15,000 when you purchase, whichever comes first. The efficient Mirai already has low fuel costs, and this complimentary fuel from Toyota helps even more.

Luxurious Interior

Although it’s a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/">Toyota</a>, a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lexus</a> badge would look right at home on the Mirai’s steering wheel. Because this interior feels like it belongs in a luxury car, it somewhat helps justify the Mirai’s luxury-car price tag. SofTex faux leather seats come standard, and on the tech front, you get an 8-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
The front seats have plenty of room, but the Toyota Mirai has a deceptively small interior for its size. This paradox becomes evident in the second row, where legroom is a stingy 33.1 inches. Compare that to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/accord-hybrid/">Honda Accord Hybrid</a> (40.8 inches) or the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/camry/">Toyota Camry</a> (38 inches). That’s because of the hydrogen fuel cell powertrain packaging, which requires big fuel tanks. This space shortage also trickles into the trunk area, where a mere 9.1 cubic feet of space welcomes cargo. Most midsize hybrid sedans offer at least 15 cubic feet.

Toyota is one of the mainstream automakers most committed to offering the general public a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) option. Case in point, the Toyota Mirai FCEV is in the fifth model year of its second generation, while most of its rivals have given up on this particular type of alternative fuel. After a 5-minute refueling at one hydrogen fuel cell station, largely centralized around LA and San Francisco, the Mirai can travel up to 402 miles between fill-ups. It also boasts Lexus-like interior quality and a futuristic aesthetic to match its unconventional engineering. Although we love the idea of a car that emits water as its only tailpipe emission, a more conventional battery electric vehicle (BEV) that you can plug in in your garage and has a 50-state charging infrastructure simply makes more sense for most people.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of FCEVs, including the 2025 Toyota Mirai.

Before buying a Mirai, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. The Mirai is a rarity and is commonly leased, so it’s hard to determine its resale value compared to other alternative fuel vehicles.

Battery and Efficiency

The Toyota Mirai is an FCEV that turns compressed hydrogen into energy, which feeds a 1.6 kWh battery. This battery ultimately powers the rear-mounted motor that turns the wheels. This battery is tiny compared to one powering a more conventional BEV because an FCEV relies on hydrogen as its fuel source rather than energy stored in a big battery pack.
The Mirai gets an <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated efficiency rating of 76 city/71 highway/74 combined MPGe. This is excellent compared to a conventional hybrid or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), but just OK compared to the most efficient BEVs.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Toyota Mirai is backed by a bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. A 5-year/60,000-mile warranty covers the powertrain. Additionally, it comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on key fuel cell components and a 10-year/150,000-mile hybrid battery warranty. You also get enhanced ToyotaCare complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
No third party has safety/crash tested the Toyota Mirai. However, it comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 bundle of advanced safety tech like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

What's new for 2025

For the 2025 model year, the Toyota Mirai drops the Limited trim. That leaves just the XLE trim, but now it has more standard features, including a 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, and ambient interior lighting.

The all-electric 2025 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo brings Porsche excitement and exactitude in a rare body style.

With a total of 690 hp and 582 lb-ft of torque in launch control mode, the GTS Sport Turismo can accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in an entertaining (and perhaps a little scary) 3.1 seconds. This variant also comes with the Sport Chrono package and push-to-pass feature as standard, bringing a brief 93-hp boost for overtaking. In real life, we’ve found this car’s thrust to be immediate and immense. For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG EQS has a maximum of 751 hp, but is slower to 60 mph by 0.3 of a second.
Here’s the thing about the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo — it’s not just a great luxury electric car, it’s also a superb Porsche, a fine example of the company’s expertise from the feel of the steering to the performance of the brakes. The drivetrain contains two motors and all-wheel drive. These motors can also provide torque vectoring for ultra-efficient cornering. Even so, we still say the optional rear-wheel steering feature is worth considering, because it also enhances maneuverability at slow speeds.
Compared with an entry-level Taycan sedan, this GTS model has upgraded brakes and a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension. Buyers might also be tempted to take ride quality and handling to another level entirely with the Porsche Active Ride suspension for extra-fast responses that control body roll, pitch, dive, and squat. We’re always impressed by this incredible engineering feat whenever we encounter it.
If we had a gripe, it’s the feel of the brake pedal. There’s a bit of initial travel where nothing much happens, which can be disconcerting. Beyond that point, though, the brakes are wonderful. We drove a version with the optional carbon ceramic brakes and recommend choosing this (admittedly expensive) extra because the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is so fabulously fast. So it’s more confidence-inspiring to have such effective stoppers under one’s foot.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The 2025 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo achieves a maximum range of 279 miles. This is with the standard-issue Performance Battery Plus. We’ve found Porsche’s range estimates to be achievable in real-world driving, and perhaps even a little understated. For some kind of context, the Tesla Model S (with a hatchback) has a maximum of 402 miles. The Mercedes-AMG EQS is capable of 315 miles. But a Taycan’s appeal goes far beyond range.
According to Porsche, charging the battery from 10% capacity to 80% takes 18 minutes on a DC fast charger’s highest setting. That’s a couple of minutes quicker than last year, and the Taycan lineup was already among the fastest in this respect. Using a home charger with a 240-volt supply, a full recharge takes about 9.5 hours, which is fine for overnight replenishment.

Revised Exterior

From the nose to the B-pillars, this GTS Sport Turismo looks like a typical member of the Taycan family. Further back, however, comes the Turismo tail, more along the lines of a hatchback or wagon. We like how this is a non-conformist take on a luxury electric car, offering a blend of performance and practicality. For a bit of extra presence, 20-inch alloy wheels are standard.
This year, Porsche has tweaked the styling of the whole Taycan lineup, adding new matrix-design LED headlights and LED taillights, sleeker front fenders, and new aerodynamic wheel designs. Charging ports are now on both sides, which is extra convenient. A broad choice of paint colors is also on offer, including the option of matching to a customer-supplied sample.

Wireless phone integration 
Cable-free Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the 2025 Taycan lineup. This year, Apple CarPlay goes even deeper into the car’s systems. There’s also a cooled wireless charging pad. And a new In-Car Video feature allows streaming on the center and front passenger screens.
Porsche Intelligent Range Manager 
A new standard feature throughout the whole 2025 Taycan lineup, this will calculate the most energy-efficient route, taking into account factors like real-time traffic and any charging requirements along the way.
Porsche Electric Sport Sound 
This might seem a bit cheesy in theory, a manufactured sound meant to simulate the growl and bark of a combustion engine and its exhaust system. In practice, we felt the hairs on the backs of our necks go up as the GTS Sport Turismo zipped past us.
Burmester audio 
It’s an option, and isn’t exactly a bargain. But we think this 21-speaker/1,455-watt surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos is about the best, most detailed, most immersive setup you will find in a car.
Variable Light Control 
Available with the panoramic glass roof, it can darken or lighten the glass electronically.
Plug &amp; Charge 
Plug &amp; Charge means that as you connect to a charger, the system recognizes your Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and uses the credit card information on file for a simple and streamlined process.

Classy, Sporty Interior

A mix of luxury and bespoke Porsche sportiness distinguishes the cabin of the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. For example, there are standard adaptive sport front seats with 18-way power adjustment (they feel ideal), plus a heated GT Sport steering wheel that we think is exactly the right size. Technology makes its presence felt in the 16.8-inch curved display that houses a digital instrument cluster and a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the dashboard is topped off by the clock that comes with the standard-issue Sport Chrono package.
In usual Taycan fashion, this version is a 4-seater with two rear seats (a rear center seat is optional) and decent rear legroom. A fixed panoramic roof is also standard.
Cargo space behind the rear seats measures 14.3 cubic feet, expanding to 41.4 cubic feet when those seats are folded down. And all Taycans have an additional 2.9 cubic feet of stowage under the hood.
