Driving Impressions

The Chevy Equinox’s engine gets the job done, and that’s about where we can leave it. This 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine makes 175 horsepower, which these days is merely acceptable or below average for the class. A Honda CR-V, for example, produces 190 hp in gasoline-only form, while the hybrid models create 204. The all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that makes 226 hp in its least potent form.
These caveats made known, we discovered in our testing that the Chevy Equinox gets up to speed just fine on freeways, is easy to maneuver around town, and has a quiet cabin. Despite its chunkier all-terrain tires, we even found that to be the case in the outdoorsy Activ trim. Given the choice, we prefer all-wheel-drive versions of the 2026 Equinox. Those get an 8-speed automatic transmission and more grunt — 203 lb-ft of torque versus the 185 put out by front-wheel drive models. Front-drive versions are also saddled with a continuously variable automatic transmission. CVTs are efficient but can drone a bit when you get on the accelerator, and don’t help the cause of what is already a somewhat coarse-sounding engine.
We should note the Equinox has paddle shifters — awkwardly placed a whisper away from the audio controls on the back of the steering wheel — but they won’t work unless you hit the “L” button in the steering wheel. It’s a bit of an odd setup, but we’re told they are more for use in low-speed precision maneuvers, not race car antics.
Fuel economy
The Chevrolet Equinox is EPA-rated at 27 mpg combined in city/highway driving for front-wheel-drive models and 26 mpg for all-wheel-drive variants. Competitors like the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson are a bit more efficient and also offer hybrid powertrains. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 will come exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, and while its EPA numbers are forthcoming, the last RAV4 Hybrid did 39 mpg with all-wheel drive. A number like that can tally significant fuel savings over the years.

Tougher-Looking Exterior

Although each of the three grades shows a slightly different face, the latest Equinox looks tougher and more capable than those that have gone before. The LT and Activ each get 17-inch wheel designs, while the sporty-looking RS uses 19-inch wheels. No matter the wheel size or design, they’re framed in a squared-off wheel opening in a flared fender. Highlighting the RS are blacked-out elements like logos and outboard mirrors, a wider grille with a high-gloss finish, and those 19-inch wheels. Stepping to the outdoor adventure-oriented Activ trim, it gains gray-finished accents and blacked-out badging.
We are fans of the two-tone color options, with a contrasting roof in white or black. For 2026, you can now get your Equinox in Polar White.

Dual displays 
Two large displays dominate the instrument panel. Directly behind the steering wheel is an 11-inch driver-configurable digital color gauge and driver-information display. Immediately to its right is an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen commanding a Google Built-in operating system.
Electronic Precision Shift 
The electronic shifter is located on the steering column rather than in the center console. This frees up console space and is becoming more common.

Tech-Focused Cabin

Interior

The cockpit is potentially the Equinox’s greatest asset. Behind the steering wheel is an 11-inch driver-configurable gauge and information display. Next to it, an 11.3-inch touchscreen is the command center for the infotainment system. The transmission selector moves to the steering column, opening up more usable room in the center console. For 2026, the base LT models get the drive mode selector dial in the center console that had previously been reserved for the Activ and RS trims.
While the 2026 Equinox is a bit longer and wider than other compact SUVs, its exterior dimensions don’t make it among the roomiest inside. Behind the second row of seats, the Equinox offers 29.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. The Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage offer closer to 40 cubic feet. Folding the rear seats creates 63.5 cubic feet of space in the Equinox. Compare that to the CR-V’s 76.5 cubic feet and the Sportage’s 74.1 figure. Passengers fare better, with the Equinox claiming above-average EPA interior volume figures. Second-row legroom is 39.9 inches. That’s still less than that of the Sportage and CR-V, but roomy nonetheless.

In a sea of excellent competitors, the Chevrolet Equinox swims midpack with other small SUVs and even brings a few flashes of greatness. The Equinox was totally redesigned just last year, making it one of the freshest choices in the most popular and most crowded vehicle segment that includes benchmarks like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
The Equinox’s recent revamp injected this contender with a rugged exterior design and an innovative interior. What it didn’t do was move the needle in terms of powertrain. Where some rivals offer more powerful models and/or hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the Equinox makes do with just one choice of engine (there is the all-electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/equinox-ev/">Equinox EV</a>, a different model reviewed separately). Also, the Equinox offers only three trims, whereas others offer far more. Its lack of powertrain and trim choices notwithstanding, the Equinox remains a solid choice for compact SUV buyers looking for a 5-passenger hauler from an American brand.

At its roughly $30,000 starting price for an LT trim, the Equinox is in line with the entry point of others in this segment. With only three trims to choose from, the Equinox’s pricing gap isn’t as wide as rivals that offer seven or even eight trims. The Active and RS trims begin at the same price, and loading one with all-wheel drive and some options still puts them securely under $40,000. Higher trims of rivals can easily top that, but they also offer far more choice of trims, powertrains, and options. In case you’re wondering, the Chevy Equinox’s slightly upscale cousin, the GMC Terrain, uses the same powertrain and is also only available in three trims, but can reach into the mid-$40,000 range with options.

As mentioned, the Equinox only offers one powertrain, and this 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Its 175 hp lags behind all competitors except the smaller <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mitsubishi/eclipse-cross/">Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross</a>, and is the same as the GMC Terrain, the Equinox’s kissing cousin. All-wheel-drive models get an 8-speed automatic transmission and a bit more torque, and that’s the powertrain we’d recommend, especially if you live in colder climates where slick roads are common.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Chevy backs the Equinox with a bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles. It also covers the powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles. This coverage is about typical for the segment.

The 2026 BMW 3 Series is a prime example of the compact luxury sedan class.

The higher the horsepower, the greater the thrills, but even the 330i is enjoyable and engaging. It’s a popular choice among 3 Series buyers. With a more-than-respectable 255 horsepower simmering under its hood, the all-wheel-drive 330i xDrive will sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars in its class. The rear-drive version (without the traction of all-wheel drive) is only a couple of tenths behind.
We’ve also found that the 3 Series is comfortable (well, except for that little middle spot in the back, as ever), but the driver’s seat is the place to be in any variant. It’s where the otherwise smooth suspension starts to impart the sensations of poise and nimbleness, where the engine’s responses to throttle inputs come into clearer focus.
The suspension is sufficiently refined to provide comfort, yet retains all the composure and precision that are typical BMW traits. In Comfort mode, meanwhile, the steering is lighter, requiring less effort.

<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The rear-wheel-drive 330i achieves 31 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The all-wheel-drive 330i xDrive runs to 29 mpg combined, beating the Mercedes-Benz C 300 4Matic by two mpg. An all-wheel-drive Genesis G70 returns 23 mpg combined.
The M340i manages 29 mpg combined. With xDrive in the picture, it’s no thirstier on the highway.

Effective Exterior

BMW has kept the 3 Series a little more conservative than the closely related 4 Series. We think that’s probably a good call. All the lines and proportions seem to work well enough for us. White and black are the only no-extra-cost colors.

Engines 
All the tech, ergonomics, suspension tuning, and quality materials wouldn’t mean as much if these elements weren’t backed up by engines that didn’t excite us. BMW’s expertise in this area is considerable, managing to balance power output with fuel efficiency.
Infotainment system 
The standard infotainment system in the 3 Series includes BMW Maps, while the voice command feature can also obey spoken requests, such as opening (or closing) the sunroof. BMW has refined the operating system to reduce the number of actions needed to access and change a function. Augmented Reality is part of the navigation feature, with superimposed directional arrows for help with things like confusing intersections.
All-wheel drive 
All-wheel drive is a popular option with 3 Series buyers. It helps apply the power to the road and provides confidence in tricky conditions.
Driving Assistance packages 
Some rivals include blind-spot monitoring as standard, so we recommend spending extra on the Driving Assistance package to acquire that, plus lane departure warning and parking sensors. The pricier Driving Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control and a partial self-driving function in traffic.
Parking Assistant 
As well as steering the 3 Series into and out of parking spaces, this optional bundle also includes automatic reverse emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system.
Harman Kardon audio 
This optional surround-sound system makes the whole 3 Series experience even more luxurious. We think this is a sensible upgrade over the standard setup.

Exemplary Interior

Material and build quality are at the usual top-notch BMW level. The impressive Curved Display is a standard feature in every 2026 3 Series. It’s a frameless glass-covered unit housing a 12.3-inch driver information screen and an expansive 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, each with high-resolution graphics.
BMW puts a 2-spoke polygonal steering into the 330i and a 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel into the M340i (also available in the 330i as part of the M Sport package). Both have controls for various functions as well as shifter paddles mounted beneath.
Although the 3 Series falls into the category of compact luxury sedan, each generation has been bigger than the one before. So the 3 Series is relatively spacious. Rear legroom is 35.2 inches, pretty much as good as anything in this class. Behind the 40/20/40-split folding rear seats, trunk space measures a generous 16.9 cubic feet.

This model year is part of the seventh generation of the 3 Series. The car’s long life is a testament to its many and varied abilities. With the 3 Series, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> virtually created the compact luxury sedan class. It has always been the car by which rivals are judged, and has evolved to this present state of excellence.
Because it debuted for the 2019 model year, the expectation was that an eighth-generation 3 Series would succeed the current model for 2026. Now that seems more likely to be 2027’s big news. In the meantime, the 3 Series continues to impress.

We recommend the popular 330i, and buyers can choose whether they want all-wheel drive (AWD) or stick with the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD).
The main rival to the 3 Series is the <a href=":censored:19:4fe1c87dd2:/mercedes-benz/c-class/">Mercedes-Benz C-Class</a>, priced similarly to its Munich counterpart. The 330i has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, enhanced by a 48-volt <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2025-bmw-3-series-goes-mild-hybrid/">mild hybrid system</a> to help produce peak power at a quicker rate, and smooth out the fuel-saving stop/restart function.
One of BMW’s famed inline-6 engines is in the M340i. It’s a 3.0-liter unit, turbocharged to produce 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. It also has a mild hybrid system.
Both engines link to an 8-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive as the default configuration and all-wheel drive (xDrive) on the options list.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. These terms are typical among European luxury car marques. Roadside assistance is included for that period, with unlimited mileage. Scheduled maintenance is free for three years or 36,000 miles, which isn&#8217;t typical.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The 3 Series hasn’t been fully tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), although it did take top scores in various impact scenarios. The car also earned a maximum of five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings">NHTSA</a>). Standard driver aids are a little sparse, not much more than forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams.

Standard equipment expands to include a Digital Key, Speed Limit information, and Lane Keeping Assistant. Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection is now part of the Parking Assistance Package. Distance Control with Steering Assistant, Lane Change Assistant, and Partial Automated Driving join the Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Across the Range Rover Sport’s generations, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/driving-the-2025-range-rover-sport/">our time behind the wheel</a> has seen every sort of off-road surface from deep muck to water crossings, and every sort of on-road or track challenge you might find south of 150 mph or south of the 10 on the 405. Whatever the environment, the Range Rover Sport impresses, even amongst its own-brand alternatives.
The value-packed (and most popular) P400 Dynamic SE trim can sprint from a stop to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds thanks to its 395-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder. The base P360 SE does the same sprint in 5.7 seconds, while the plug-in hybrid P460e nearly matches the P400 at 5.3 seconds. The P530 takes a significant jump up to 523 hp, although the P550e is the top of the non-SV chart at 542 hp. Despite the 550e’s greater output, the P530 accelerates quicker, hitting 60 mph from a stop in 4.3 seconds to the P550e’s 4.7 seconds. Likewise, the P530 has the highest top speed below the SV at 155 mph.
For the purely performance-minded, the SV Edition Two is the obvious choice. Its 626 hp is more than any sane person can reasonably use for any measurable period on the open road, and the chassis is built to handle it. Even the brakes are impressively large — the largest ever fitted to a Range Rover, in fact.

The expanded 2025 Range Rover Sport lineup offers a wide range of fuel economies and powertrains. Starting with the least efficient, the Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two, you’ll get 18 mpg combined. Close behind that 626-hp beast is also the V8-powered Range Rover Sport P530, which is good for 19 mpg combined. Opt for the P400 mild hybrid and you’ll get 22 mpg — the same as you’ll get with the P360. Hands-down, the efficient Range Rover Sport models are the P460 PHEV and P550 PHEV plug-in hybrids, which both get a combined MPGe rating of 53, along with 21 miles of all-electric range.

Iconic, Still

Even after the complete redesign in 2023, the Range Rover Sport’s iconic profile and stance remain as identifiable as ever. The flush-mount side glass and door handles yield a sleek, refined appearance to complement the muscularity of the fenders and hood.

A sophisticated air suspension system, lightweight materials, enormous brakes, and massive power — everything about the SV Edition Two expands the envelope of an already high-bandwidth vehicle.
Stormer Handling Pack 
Don’t want to splash the cash for the top-spec SV, or perhaps you prefer the efficiency of the 6-cylinder or P460e PHEV? This $7,185 option gets you Dynamic Response Pro to improve handling and reduce body roll, an active differential, all-wheel steering, and more. It’s a significant performance upgrade without the cost of upgrading to a V8.
Terrain Response System 
Range Rover’s branded traction system is among the best in the business, with modes for everything from snow to sand to mud to rocks and beyond. Even with the low-profile tires and please-don’t-scratch-me paint, the Range Rover Sport is always ready for real off-road use.
Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control 
This system controls off-road speed in the single digits, using sensors and cameras to allow the driver to keep their focus on line choice and obstacle avoidance. It maintains a constant pace even over rugged terrain.
Meridian audio 
The base Meridian sound system is good, and the upgrade Meridian 3D Surround Sound system (standard on Autobiography models) is even better. Still, the Meridian Signature Sound system is the best, available on all but the base model. This 29-speaker, 1,430-watt custom-engineered system is worth a listen — and the roughly $5,000 option price.
Towing package 
For just $1,200, any version of the Range Rover Sport can be outfitted with a towing package. Capabilities vary by powertrain, but properly configured, the Range Rover Sport can tow up to 7,716 lbs — enough for a small camper or a medium-sized boat.

A League of Its Own

At its best, when compared to anything short of a Bentley, a Maybach, or a Rolls-Royce, the Range Rover Sport is simply in another league. Its material quality and interior design are excellent even in the base model. Step up the range into Autobiography territory, and even the hyper-luxe alternatives take notice. This interior is the benchmark by which other SUV cabins are judged, even if cargo space and seating room are about average for the two-row midsize luxury SUV segment.

Famous pro athletes, Hollywood stars, doctors, lawyers, and other wealthy, image-obsessed types have made the Range Rover Sport an icon of modern pop culture, but to be fair to the vehicle, it would deserve all of that attention even if it didn’t have one of the most famous and powerful owner bases in the world — it is, after all, exceptional to drive on-road or off, and quite satisfying to look at, too. No matter if you’re already part of that high-power set or just aspiring to be, it’s not so much a question of whether you’ll buy a Range Rover Sport, but rather a question of when.
As gorgeous and seemingly well-built as they are, however, Land Rover vehicles, including the Range Rover Sport, have a reputation for being high-maintenance.

It’s easiest to think of the Range Rover Sport lineup in terms of its powertrains. There are two 6-cylinder models, two V8 models, and two plug-in hybrids. The base P360 SE and the P400 Dynamic SE share the mild-hybrid 3.0-liter 6-cylinder, rated at 355 and 395 hp, respectively. The two plug-in hybrids share a version of that same engine paired to an electric motor drive system that boosts power to 454 hp (P460e) or 542 hp (P550e). The P530 is the entry point to the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 range, with 523 hp. At the top sits the SV Edition Two, with a 626-hp version of the same twin-turbo V8.
All versions of the Range Rover Sport use an 8-speed automatic transmission and come with standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
The Range Rover Sport’s basic warranty is typical for the luxury segment, lasting for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain coverage is the same.
Safety Ratings
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has safety tested the Range Rover Sport. Standard safety equipment includes emergency brake assist, lane-keeping, 3D surround camera, front and rear parking assist, and more.

What's new for 2025

The Range Rover Sport rolls elegantly into the 2025 model year with three new derivatives, including the Dynamic SE P460e PHEV, the Dynamic SE P530, and the Autobiography P530. There have also been a handful of minor changes to package and equipment configurations.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG G-Class is a performance luxury SUV that proves anything is possible with enough money and power.

The G 63 AMG corrals its considerable 577 hp to sprint from standing to 60 mph in a fleeting 4.2 seconds, which is simultaneously crazy and wonderful for a large and heavy SUV.
The AMG G 63 is the most engaging G-Class, and its standard adaptive suspension offers a broader range of comfort and sportiness than the non-AMG (which offers the adaptive suspension as an option — we recommend it). If absolute smoothness and serenity are high on the list of priorities, though, we’d say check out the plusher and more tranquil Range Rover.
Fuel Economy
Unbelievably, the 2025 Mercedes-AMG G 63 gets 1 mpg better gas mileage than the base non-AMG variant at 15 mpg combined. That’s not a particularly impressive figure, but it’s the reality of preposterously quick acceleration of a large, rectilinear shape through the atmosphere.
That’s a reality the competition must also face; the BMW X5 M returns the same 15 mpg as the G 63, and most of the rest of the segment is below 20 mpg combined, with less powerful models managing somewhat greater efficiency.

The iconic blocky outline of the G-Class hasn’t changed much since it was first introduced in Europe in 1979, and that’s just fine by us. The satisfying mechanical “ka-chunk” of the doors closing likewise remains the same.
The G 63 has 20-inch alloy wheels, side exhaust pipes, and a model-specific grille. The spare wheel is mounted on the rear door (instead of stowed underneath), maximizing ground clearance and departure angles when off-roading. And the door itself is hinged at the side — no heavy tailgate to lift.

Offroad Cockpit 
Accessed via the digital instrument screen, this system shows off-road-specific data like tire pressures, steering angle, elevation, and other details. It’s a great complement to the virtual transparent hood feature.
AMG Ride Control suspension 
Some buyers may want to maximize the off-road potential of their new G-Class luxury SUV. We’ve found that one way is to select the AMG Performance Package offered with the G 63 for about $4,400. It includes an off-road-optimized adaptive suspension.
Burmester audio 
This 18-speaker, 760-watt 3D surround sound audio system is standard equipment. To our ears, it’s a truly excellent system. Its drilled metal speaker grilles look pretty nice, too.
Guard 360 security system 
Another standard feature, this system keeps an eye on your vehicle while it’s parked, potentially detecting if it’s been damaged. It leverages the vehicle’s built-in Surround View cameras to monitor the whole exterior.
Extensive standard safety tech 
It might not be top-of-mind with a passion purchase like the AMG G 63, but having the latest in active safety technology onboard is reassuring when you’re all loaded up with family and friends. The G 63 comes with attention assist, active lane-keeping, dynamic cruise control, traffic sign assist, and much more.
Wireless charging &amp; phone integration 
Nothing says luxury like complete freedom from cables. Here, you can charge your phone, pair via NFC, and use both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, gloriously free of cord clutter.

Refined and luxurious without becoming impractical, the 2025 G 63’s cabin is inviting, fitted with leather upholstery, wood trim, heated front seats, and other luxuries. Running boards and a grab handle make it easier to climb up into the G 63.
Once inside, you’ll find fair space, with 39.5 inches of legroom in the second row and 37.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seats. Fold the second row, and that expands to 68.6 cubic feet — but it’s worth pointing out that the space is narrower than in some competitors. The Range Rover has more space in general, with up to 83.5 cubic feet of total cargo capacity.

A luxury SUV icon that’s as much a part of the culture as it is a built-for-purpose off-roader, the G-Class imposes its presence, and no variant of it more so than the AMG version, the Mercedes-AMG G 63. Brash, powerful, and ferociously quick, yet refined, comfortable, and surprisingly practical, the G 63 is perhaps AMG’s greatest finesse, transforming an erstwhile military transport into one of the most impressive luxury performance SUVs on the planet.

The 2025 AMG G 63 SUV offers a single engine: a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The total system output is 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission routes power through permanent 4-wheel drive, and the G 63 comes with a 2-speed transfer case.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63 has a 4-year or 50,000-mile new vehicle warranty, whichever comes first. The powertrain is covered for the same term. Both are typical among luxury manufacturers.

The expensive and luxurious G-Class hasn’t been crash-tested by the usual agencies in the U.S., but our European counterparts in the Euro NCAP program rate the G-Class at five stars. The AMG G 63 comes standard with a host of safety equipment, including active brake assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention assist, steering assist, lane-keep assist, and more.

For 2025, the AMG G-Class gets an upgraded V8 engine with 48-volt mild hybrid system, updated MBUX infotainment, new Offroad Cockpit and virtual transparent hood features, and subtly revised exterior design including a new front bumper. New items on the options list include active rolls stabilization via AMG Active Ride Control suspension, four new wheel designs, and a range of custom paint and interior finishes.

The 2026 BMW i7 is an extremely effective and capable all-electric large luxury sedan with a maximum range of 314 miles.

The entry-level i7 eDrive50 has a single electric motor driving the rear wheels to the tune of 449 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The i7 xDrive60 enjoys 536 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque. The M70 xDrive comes with an awesome 650 hp and 748 lb-ft of torque &#8212; or a temporary 811 lb-ft when using M Sport Boost or Launch Control. These latter two variants have all-wheel drive as standard.
Given the size and weight of the BMW i7, it has some impressive acceleration (as long as you don’t mind range being curtailed), zipping from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, 4.5 seconds, or an “are you kidding us?” 3.5 seconds in the M70.
Such is the joy of electric motors. They play into BMW’s metaphorical hands by being able to generate a lot of power, yet do so almost silently, which is a perfect combination for a luxury vehicle. Acceleration is remarkably swift yet serene. Those driving talents are amplified in the 650-hp i7 M70 xDrive.
For competition, we’re looking at 4.2 seconds for the Mercedes-EQ EQS (with the super-expensive EQS 580 model), 3.0 seconds for the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance. And supposedly 1.99 seconds for the Tesla Model S Plaid (not counting the first foot of rollout).
We’ve always contended that the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/7-series/">BMW 7 Series</a> (reviewed separately) is one of the most enjoyable large luxury sedans from the vantage point of the driver’s seat. Even though this closely related i7 electric sedan is big for the class and weighs about three tons, we still notice that same appeal. BMW has made the i7 feel a lot more agile than its specifications might imply. While still remaining supremely comfortable, of course.
We’ve absolutely loved driving this M70 variant, regardless of how much power we might or might not have used during our time behind the wheel. Every mile is a reminder of how good BMW is at tuning suspensions and calibrating accelerator response.
Not every day is spent gliding along the highway or breaking free of city limits, however. Which is where one-pedal driving &#8212; another attribute of electric vehicles &#8212; comes into its own. By setting brake regeneration to its maximum (easily done), the i7’s progress is controlled just by pressing on the accelerator or easing off. It’s only necessary to hit the brake pedal when a more urgent halt is needed.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Wheel size impacts range; larger wheels usually reduce the distance. The i7 eDrive50 is estimated to run for up to 314 miles on a fully charged battery—that’s with 19-inch wheels. The i7 xDrive60 has a best figure of 311 miles. We said “usually” just now because the M70 xDrive is capable of 285 miles on 21-inch wheels or 268 miles with 20-inchers.
Compare all this with 367 miles for the Mercedes EQS 450 4Matic sedan, 410 miles for the Tesla Model S, and an impressive 512 miles for the Lucid Air.
Charging times among these contenders are close. The i7 can regain around 90 miles of range in 10 minutes when connected to a fast charger, similar to the EQS. Lucid and Tesla both say 200 miles is possible in 15 minutes for their cars (or even 12 minutes with the Lucid Air Grand Touring).

Imposing Exterior

Compared with other large luxury sedans, the BMW i7 is big. It’s about a foot longer than the Mercedes-EQ EQS Sedan and the Tesla Model S. However, the Model S remains the widest.
The i7 M70 xDrive comes with various aerodynamic additions, a lot of black touches, the option of an illuminated grille, Frozen matte finishes, and eight two-tone color combinations. One such combo is the Liquid Copper lower section with a Black Sapphire Metallic roof, hood, and trunk lid.

Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof 
This spectacular standard feature has customizable colors and an illuminated graphic design that lets users create their mood within the i7.
Adaptive Recuperation 
Using information from the navigation system to optimize regenerative braking, this feature helps to optimize the BMW i7’s efficiency. It can capture and preserve electrical energy (adding to the range) without requiring any changes to your usual driving style.
BMW Curved Display 
This dash is one large unit containing the Live Cockpit digital driver information display and the touchscreen for a feature-rich iDrive infotainment system that includes navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio system.
IconicSounds 
Created by film composer Hans Zimmer (Google him, he’s done a few Batman films, plus “Dune,” “Gladiator,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and loads more), the i7 offers a choice of sounds to suit moods, performance, etc. They can make you feel like you’re in your own futuristic movie.
M Sport Package 
Although there’s an M version of the i7, some buyers may be happy just with a sportier look rather than going the whole M hog. This options package includes Shadowline exterior trim and M Aerodynamic alloy wheels. The M Sport Professional package adds even more black trim, a rear spoiler, and upgraded M Sport brakes.
BMW Theater Screen 
No mere rear-seat entertainment system, this is a massive 31.3-inch screen with up to 8K resolution and Amazon Fire TV compatibility. It flips down to use and stows in the ceiling when not in use. We’ve enjoyed this feature a lot.

Impressive Interior

The BMW i7’s cabin is sure to meet or more likely exceed anyone’s expectations of a flagship luxury sedan. The designs and technology are all state-of-the-art. Interior space is generous. And we’ve found the seats to be extraordinarily comfortable. Extended Merino leather upholstery and oak trim come as standard.
With the BMW Individual Composition program, buyers can tailor the interior exactly to their liking. There’s a choice of six colors for the leather, and interior trim options range from carbon fiber to four types of wood.
For those who prefer to be chauffeured, an optional Luxury Rear Seating package upgrades the back seats with ventilation and massaging functions. And goodness, those headrests are pillowy.

For a heady combination of power, tech, comfort, and prestige, the BMW i7 is hard to beat. It doesn’t matter which seat you’re in, the i7 offers a lot of features and engagement &#8212; including that special <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> driver appeal. We think the i7 is one of the finest cars of its class. The lineup consists of three variants that go from a relatively modest conveyance with the best range, to a muscular machine with dynamics to match.

The eDrive50 (with 19-inch wheels) provides the best range of 314 miles and is a popular choice. However, the more powerful xDrive60 (range: 311 miles) also sells relatively well.

Battery and Efficiency

Every 2026 i7 has a battery with a usable capacity of 105.6 kilowatt-hours (kWh). That’s quite a hefty amount for today’s lithium-ion technology. BMW’s electric motors don’t use magnets and so do not require rare-earth materials like cobalt. They’re known as current-excited motors and are manufactured in-house.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This coverage is typical for the luxury sector. The i7’s high-voltage battery and other EV components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. BMW also includes four years/unlimited miles of roadside assistance, and free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The i7 has yet to be crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, but that shouldn’t deter buyers. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.
