Wraps Come Off the 2023 GV60 as Genesis Starts Down Electric Avenue

2022 Genesis GV60

The 2023 Genesis GV60, the first electric vehicle to come from the luxury division of Hyundai, is making its debut in Seoul, Korea. Based on the parent company’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), the new EV shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Ioniq5 and Kia EV6.

However, the reveal is more about the exterior and interior design of the vehicle rather than its drivetrain, battery, range, and other performance-related specifications. The GV60 is a small SUV positioned beneath the current 2022 Genesis GV70. But, unlike the larger sibling, will be a dedicated electric vehicle.

New Design Direction

Genesis is using the GV60 to showcase a new design direction for the upscale brand. Overall, the vehicle has a sporty, athletic silhouette, more of a coupe roofline than a traditional SUV profile. It carries over the current design theme of twin line quad headlamps and a similar LED rear lighting signature.

Instead of a grille-less front fascia, the GV90 has a lower inlet that provides cooling for the battery pack and the front brakes. This large opening, which has a shape similar to the crest grille used on other Genesis models, provides a more aggressive and sportier look to the vehicle.

In profile, the GV60 has a flowing shape to the body. That look is enhanced by the first use of a clamshell hood by the division. Chrome trim accents the top of the side glass. Running the length of the roof, it has a unique electric bolt kink in the C-pillar. This tips off the GV60’s electric powertrain.

Lower body cladding and black wheel arch flares are among the SUV-inspired cues that are part of the overall design. The steeply raked rear hatch features a spoiler that mounts to the base of the glass.

Plush Cabin

Inside, quilted leather upholstery and a crystal sphere that flips over to reveal a rotary shift dial add to the upscale look. The GV60 features two large displays, one in front of the driver and the other a center touchscreen. There’s a secondary, smaller touchscreen below for the climate controls.

The cabin features a flat floor and a large center console. Two large screens at the base of the A-pillars serve as monitors for the rear-facing outside rearview cameras. Generous use of aluminum accents and multi-color ambient lighting adds to the upscale aura.

The Genesis GV60 also will boast the next level of connected car technology. It also incorporates features such as retina and fingerprint recognition to provide true keyless entry and operation. Genesis said that more details will come ahead of the GV60’s North American launch next year.
