Before taking possession of a used car, it’s always a good idea to have it inspected by a mechanic you trust, to ensure that the previous owner didn’t wear critical parts too heavily by riding the brakes in traffic, grinding the gears with every shift, or jumping it over boats in Baltimore Harbor before drifting it through a crowded warehouse.
Yeah, that last one…
Omaze, the fundraising company that raffles off lots of interesting custom cars in ads on your Facebook feed, is offering up a custom-built Subaru WRX STI built for rally racer Ken Block’s latest Gymkhana video (for the uninitiated-an annual series of videos featuring rally drivers performing increasingly astounding stunts in cars). In the video, rival driver Travis Pastrana jumps a Subaru over a surprisingly wide stretch of water in his native Baltimore harbor before executing several dozen somewhat-less-dangerous precision driving tricks.
The prize car isn’t the one Pastrana uses for his controlled chaos. That one isn’t street legal, with its many race enhancements. This WRX STI appears as an extra, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene. It goes by on a lift truck Pastrana is driving.
But it’s a prize all the same, with a long list of customizations including a cat-back exhaust, carbon fiber rear wing, front splitter, and rear diffuser, and interior niceties like an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and shifter.
The raffle raises funds for both Team Rubicon and Feeding America. The money goes to employ veterans in community disaster response, and relieve hunger through meal programs nationwide. Enter here.
