Which 2022 Subaru Ascent is Right for Me?

2022 Subaru Ascent

Subaru is known for safety and reliability, and the 2022 Subaru Ascent gets plenty of both. The 2022 Subaru Ascent is the largest SUV that the company offers and it competes with everything from the Kia Telluride to the Honda Pilot. Because it’s a Subaru, it comes with all-wheel drive as standard equipment along with a ton of safety and driver assists, which tends to give it an edge over other popular rivals.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent gets a suite of updates for this model year, including those to its standard safety suite called EyeSight. Among these features are steering-responsive headlights with automatic high beams, and seat belt reminders for the second and third rows of seats.

With space for up to eight people, the 3-row Ascent boasts a gutsy turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. On the road it easily gets up to freeway speeds and doesn’t lag when you need to pass someone on an uphill run. The engine is paired to a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) that simulates an 8-speed automatic. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The Ascent comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which includes the off-road enhancing X-mode and hill descent control, as well as active torque vectoring. It makes light work of both slippery conditions and moderate off-roading.

Five Trims Available

There are five trims available for the Subaru Ascent. They are the base model, Premium, Onyx, Limited, and Touring trims.

The base version of the Ascent comes with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and automatic emergency braking. The standard infotainment system is a 6.5-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone integration. You also get tri-zone automatic climate control, and steering-responsive headlights. The base Ascent starts at $32,295. The destination fee on all models is $1,050.

Step up to the Premium, and you get added features like blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8-inch infotainment screen, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats and heated side mirrors, and second-row independent climate control. At this trim level, you can opt for 7-passenger seating instead of the standard 8-passenger setup by swapping the second-row bench for a pair of captain’s chairs.

Between the Premium and Limited trims sits the Ascent Onyx Edition. This trim costs $37,995 (plus delivery) and includes everything from the Premium edition, plus optional power tilt and sliding moonroof. It makes keyless access, auto-dimming rearview, power rear gate with auto close, more USB ports for the second- and third-row passengers, and tri-climate control standard.

The $39,595 Limited trim adds leather upholstery, an optional Harmon Kardon audio system, and standard sunshades in the second row.

The top-line Touring model comes fully loaded and starts at $45,445 plus destination. It also gets a 120-volt AC power outlet as standard and the 8.-inch Starlink Navigation and multimedia screen, plus a 180-degree front view monitor.

We’d recommend opting for either the Onyx or Limited Edition because of the price and the options.
