Now in its sixth year, the 2022 Genesis G90 is establishing itself as a well-equipped luxury sedan with a starting price significantly lower than its German competitors. It’s comfortable, powerful, and loaded with standard features as well as a class-leading powertrain warranty.
Keeping things relatively simple, there are only two engine choices for the 2022 Genesis G90, both with corresponding levels of equipment. The base is a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 making 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. Starting closer to $78,000 is the 5.0L Ultimate, with a 420-horsepower 5.0-liter V8. They connect to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is available on both for an extra $2,500. While some of its competitors provide an engaging driving experience, the G90 is more serene and peaceful. It’s plenty powerful with each engine, but Genesis’ concept of a luxury sedan is to provide comfort and hours of fatigue-free driving.
As befitting a luxury sedan, the exterior of the G90 is conservative, and the interior is spacious and comfortable, with even the base trim having Nappa leather seats. The rear legroom only measures 37.8 inches, which is actually a bit small for the class, but still comfortable, and the 15.7-cubic-foot trunk is about average. Standard features include navigation-based cruise control, 360-degree camera system, and 12.3-inch touchscreen, with more rear luxury in the 5.0L Ultimate model.
Two Trim Levels
Genesis keeps things simple with the 2022 G90, offering only two trim levels and very few options. This is mostly because even the base 3.3T is so amply equipped. With a starting price of $73,950, the base 3.3T comes standard with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 and rear-wheel drive. Some of the feature highlights include LED lighting, Nappa leather upholstery, heated/ventilated/multi-way-adjustable front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, and heated rear outboard seats.
Also included are a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, wireless charging, and satellite radio as well as a head-up display and 360-degree camera system. Safety features include automatic emergency braking, parking sensors with collision avoidance assist, blind-spot view monitor, and blind-spot monitoring system.
The top trim is the 5.0L Ultimate, powered by a 5.0-liter V8 making 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Aside from the engine, the main distinction in the 5.0L Ultimate is the addition of extra comfort features for rear-seat passengers The outboard rear seats are not only multi-way adjustable, but also include heating, ventilation, and power reclining. Also included for rear-seat passengers are two 10.3-inch high-definition screens.
