A luxury midsize sedan, the 2022 Genesis G80 offers a choice of engines and drive systems, and a ride that’s either more sporting or comfortable, depending on your choice. The specialty of the G80 has always been a value for money against its German competitors. Yet, it’s consistently upping its luxury game, with a spacious and well-appointed cabin and loads of standard driver-assistance features.
Two engines are available in the 2022 G80: a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder making 300 horsepower and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The base engines can be paired with either rear- or all-wheel drive, while the 3.5T Sport comes with AWD standard. The base model is comfortable and plenty powerful but not particularly sporty, whereas the 3.5T also includes a sport-tuned adaptive suspension and the option of rear-wheel steering for even better handling.
All G80 models are very well-appointed, with simulated leather upholstery, an infotainment system with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, and an array of driver assistance features.
Two Trim Levels
Genesis likes to keep its trim levels simple, which is why there are only two trim levels for the G80. The base 2.5T uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, while the 3.5T AWD Sport features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.
Starting at $48,000 plus $1,045 destination, the 2.5T model is very well appointed. It sports 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, heated and 12-way power-adjustable front seats, and simulated leather upholstery. The infotainment system consists of a 14.5-inch touchscreen with satellite radio, four USB ports, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and 12-speaker audio system. Driver-assistance features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control. Adding all-wheel drive is an additional $3,150 but includes a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats.
Along with the larger engine and all-wheel drive, the $63,540 3.5T AWD Sport has 19-inch wheels, powered panoramic roof, leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, tri-zone climate control, heated rear seats, wireless charging, 360-degree camera system, and 21-speaker/1,050-watt Lexicon audio system.
Extra packages include Nappa leather, larger wheels, and carbon-fiber trim.
Genesis primarily bundles options within its trim levels, but offers a couple of add-ons, including the $5,400 Prestige package and special paint options. Fully loaded, a 2022 Genesis G80 3.5T AWD Sport will run you $69,680.

3.5-Liter Twin-Turbo V6
While the 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is a perfectly good engine, a luxury sedan deserves the power of a V6. This twin-turbo cranks out 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, so you’re never late for that executive meeting.
All-Wheel Drive
We’re the first to concede that a sport sedan should bias the power to the rear wheels, but the G80 is also about comfort and stability. The 3.5T also adds a sporty adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering. All-wheel drive comes with heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel for more comfort when the weather turns wintry.
Lexicon Surround-Sound System
Lexicon is one of the finest makers of audio systems, and this one includes 1,050 watts pumped through 21 speakers. It includes subwoofers under each of the front seats for extra bass. If you tire of the sound of the twin-turbo V6, it’s good to have a top-notch stereo for your rock, jazz, or hip-hop.
360-Degree Camera
This is becoming an increasingly popular item for added safety. With four cameras working together, the system offers a full view of the car to aid in parking or other maneuvers in challenging spots.
Prestige Package
Not many extra-cost options are available on the 2022 G80, but this is the big one. It swaps out the 19-inch wheels for 20-inch alloys. You also get extra-soft Nappa leather and a 16-way power driver’s seat. It also includes a 12.3-inch 3D digital gauge cluster and an ergo motion driver seat with adjustable air cells for optimum support.
Tasman Blue Paint
If you’re bringing your luxury sedan to the party, you might as well make sure it pops. Tasman Blue is one of the special options for the G80.
Winter Weather Package
If you live in a four-season area, this package includes floor liners and custom mudguards to keep the interior pristine. You also may want to throw in a reversible cargo tray. It’s not a very expensive option, and it protects your trunk against spills or wet ski gear.
