The 2022 Subaru Outback offers a great blend of not-quite-an-SUV and not-quite-a-wagon design. Blending these genres is what makes it so unique. It’s kind of a midsize crossover and kind of a wagon in SUV garb. In any event, it offers plenty of offroad ability, space, and most importantly, standard all-wheel drive.
For 2022 there are almost no changes to the Outback. After all, the sixth generation debuted in 2020, so the technology is still brand new and safety is top-notch. There is a new Subaru Outback Wilderness coming but it exists more as an off-road specialist. That new trim boasts a more off-road-oriented all-wheel-drive and suspension set-up, all-terrain tires, and underbody cladding.
Fully Loaded
At the top of the range, a fully loaded Subaru Outback can be priced out above $47,000. That price is the result of the long list of 81 additional accessories available. Here’s an overview of what you get at the very top trim:
- Outback Touring XT trim comes with the more powerful 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder that supplants the base 182-horsepower naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-4. You also get Subaru’s Starlink Safety and Security, a larger 11.6-inch infotainment screen with Subaru’s Multimedia Plus, and more. The Touring XT starts at $39,945, plus a $1,125 destination charge.
- Among the features that don’t already come on the fully-loaded Touring XT are a wireless phone charger ($292), outside dimming mirrors with puddle/approach lamps ($273), and footwell illumination ($239).
- A wide variety of pet-friendly accessories make transporting your pets a whole lot more comfortable. Even more important, it’s a whole lot safer for pets. Items include a pet-friendly ramp ($299.95), a collapsible kennel for the cargo area of the Outback ($159.95), and a Pet Harness ($79.99). There’s even a pet carrier and bed for your cat. ($199.99)
- The Outback offers cargo nets, dividers, second-row window sunshades, and all-weather floor liners. There are smoking accessories including an ashtray holder, ashtray, and cigarette lighter. Off-roaders can add various bits of under-cladding. Also available are any number of trailer hitches, balls, hitch-mounted, and roof-mounted bike racks, and other cargo carrying accessories.
