Volkswagen dealers have been clamoring for more SUV’s from the German automaker and part of that response will be seen at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show where a new concept for a top-end sport ute will be revealed. Calling the unnamed concept “one of the most advanced luxury SUVs in the world”, the show car will be a range-topping vehicle that’s designed to appeal to the Chinese market, as well as the U.S. and Europe.

VW says the vehicle will feature a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that develops 376 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque with a pure EV range of 31 miles. That high output will enable the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.0 seconds on the way to a top speed of 139 mph. The combined pure electric and hybrid operation is expected to deliver 78 mpg.

Another key feature of the concept is the use of digital operation and displays that feature a high level of interactivity. VW also promises a lounge-type interior and digital interfaces that are centered on the passengers. The concept is slated to be unveiled during the April 24 press day at the Beijing Show.
