Volkswagen has recalled 98,806 ID.4 SUVs from model years 2021-2024 because their doors can open unexpectedly while driving.
If that sounds familiar, it should. This is the second recall for the same issue. Volkswagen recalled a smaller set of cars for the problem in 2023 but has now concluded that it affects more vehicles than initially believed.
Water can leak into electronic components in the door handles, the company says. “Water ingress into the printed circuit board can lead to malfunctions causing an ‘open command’ to the door lock.”
Volkswagen knows of at least 135 such incidents.
Dealers will inspect the door handles and replace any with inadequate seals to fix the problem.
By law, automakers never charge for recall repairs.
Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has any outstanding repair orders at our recall center.
