A fix for 38,000 SUVs from Volkswagen Group has reportedly been agreed upon between the auto maker and government agencies. The settlement means VW won’t have to buy back 2013-16 Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Toureg models as well as 2013-2015 Audi Q7 SUVs equipped with 3.0-liter diesel engines, according to Reuters.
The vehicles were part of a larger diesel cheating scandal in which vehicles were equipped with software to change engine settings during testing in order to meet emission standards. The report said the agreement only covers the SUVs, a fix for 3.0-liter diesel powered cars including Porsche Panameras, is still pending and the company has agreed to purchase back some 20,000 older V6 diesel models.
Previously, VW agreed to a $1.22 billion settlement to buy back the V6 diesel vehicles and pay the owners who get the vehicles fixed between $8,500 and $17,000. The news agency said that VW has agreed to spend up to $25 billion to settle claims from owners, dealers and government regulators.
