Following up on what it deems the most significant product refresh in the company’s history, Volvo has released information on its 2015.5 model lineup. Key enhancements include making Volvo Sensus Connect and Volvo On Call standard across the board. These upgrades give the automaker bragging rights as being the first to feature cloud- and app-based connectivity and telematics systems on every vehicle it produces.

In addition to Sensus Connect providing more comprehensive – albeit 3G — connectivity with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and tethering capabilities, Volvo’s On Call smartphone app for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone allow owners to do everything from remote starting and locking/unlocking to performing a full system/status check as well as having the vehicle tracked should it be stolen. The technology also automatically sends out a notification in case of a crash.

The Volvo family sees other notable changes for 2015.5, starting with a simplified lineup that eliminates the Premier-Plus trim grade. New harman/kardon premium audio systems are now standard on top-line Platinum variants and a freestanding option along with keyless drive on other versions. Premier features have been expanded to include Sensus Navigation – which also is standard on the S80 as well as on T6 versions of the S60, V60, XC60 and XC70. Related Navi system tweaks bring better graphics, improved routing options and enhanced voice-recognition capabilities. At Platinum level, the standard equipment roster now includes keyless drive, bi-xenon headlamps, and the Technology Package while a new Convenience Package bundles a rear park assist camera, keyless drive, Homelink, a digital compass, grocery bag holder and power retractable outside mirrors.
