Volvo has recalled 40 EX30 subcompact electric SUVs from model year 2025 due to issues with the high-voltage battery. Any vehicles produced after October 25, 2025, are not affected.
Volvo tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that “potential overheating of the High Voltage Battery Cell could lead to an internal cell short.” If a short were to occur, a fire could take place.
The company says no warranty claims or reports have been made in the U.S. regarding this issue. If your battery does begin to overheat, a message will appear in the Driver Information Module (DIM).
This investigation is ongoing, and experts are still developing a final service solution. In the meantime, Volvo is advising owners to limit the vehicle’s battery charge to 70% and to avoid parking indoors.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While they do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN number, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
