According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Volvo has recalled 2,061 copies of its new EX90 electric SUV because of a headlight problem.
The EX90 has shutters that can close over its headlights. They’re not important to any safety function; they’re playful, allowing the car to “blink” on startup. However, Volvo says a software problem can cause the shutters to close while in motion, leaving the driver without illumination.
The fix is simple, and owners won’t need to bring cars to the dealership to receive it. Volvo will push out a software update to fix the problem over the air.
Under federal law, Volvo must notify owners of a safety recall through the mail. EX90 owners should expect a notice telling them that their car had a problem, but it has already been fixed.
As with all recall repairs, the fix was free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has any outstanding recalls at our recall center.
