Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Volvo EX30 and EX 30 Cross Country models will be discontinued for the U.S. market. The Drive reported the news yesterday. Industry publication Automotive News today said it had reviewed a memo to dealers confirming the cancellation. EX30 models will remain available for Canada and Mexico, a Volvo spokesperson told AN.
Small but Mighty
The EX30 is an electric subcompact SUV that debuted in the U.S. for the 2025 model year. It is Volvo’s smallest and least expensive electric SUV. Our editors praise its stylish, smart interior, excellent looks, and charging efficiency.
Just this past summer, the more rugged EX30 Cross Country arrived for the 2026 model year.
Another EV Bites the Dust
News of this cancellation comes in the wake of EV discontinuations in the U.S. from Honda and Acura. Domestic demand for new EVs has been declining since late 2025.
A spokesperson from Volvo confirmed to The Drive that dealers were notified and given the explanation that Volvo is evaluating business and operational strategies, and that this “is a direct response to shifting market conditions and financial factors.” The Drive also reports that dealers have until this Friday, March 20, to place EX30 orders.
What’s Next for Volvo EVs
Volvo is also not completely dismissing its return. “We are always evaluating every aspect of our business, including our product offering, and will continue to monitor market conditions,” Volvo told The Drive.
Volvo isn’t abandoning EVs, either. The 3-row EX90 electric SUV remains in the Swedish luxury automaker’s lineup, as does the compact EX40. The new EX60 is still expected this spring.
