Volvo said it is the first automaker to integrate streaming music service Spotify into its new products. Although Spotify is currently available for use by iPhone owners via a Bluetooth app in Volvo XC90, S90 and V90 models featuring Apple CarPlay, the automaker says this new service integrated in its Sensus infotainment system provides a much richer user experience along with superior search functionality.

In addition to completely eliminating the need for a smartphone and making it easier for access all Spotify elements on the large Sensus touchscreen, the new Volvo system also includes Spotify Connect functionality that allows anyone in the car with a iOS device to control the Spotify in-car setup without requiring a hard connection to the vehicle or draining its battery. On offer in all countries where Spotify is available starting this spring, accessing the music service will require a Premium subscription. However, it will come with a 30-day free trial for non-current Spotify customers.

“As before you can still play music from your Spotify smartphone app in your car, or you can use the in-car app, which will contain all of your favorite playlists, artists and albums,” noted Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President Marketing Sales and Service at Volvo Cars. “And with Spotify’s ability to deliver extremely high quality streaming, it has never been a better time to get the most out of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system in our new XC90, S90 and V90.”
