Volkswagen has released a new sketch and video images of its upcoming T-Roc compact crossover SUV that will be formally unveiled ahead of its appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show. While tech details are still limited, we do know the Euro-focused T-Roc will be based on VW’s now MQB modular architecture shared with the latest Golf. That platform–as well as a fair bit of the T-Toc’s design influences–also is expected to feature in a slightly larger new VW SUV model that will begin rolling into U.S. showrooms in the not-too-distant future.

Although it embodies its own slightly more youthful look and feel, the T-Roc still maintains a clear link to VW’s latest design thinking. The automaker’s focus is on the T-Roc’s progressive on/off-road flair and distinctive lighting signatures as well as a wealth of innovations, elements it believes will help the newcomer win favor with urban buyers as well as the active lifestyle set.
