Volkswagen has recalled 311 ID.4 electric vehicles (EVs) from model years 2023-2024 because a flaw in their batteries could lead to a vehicle fire.
The company has asked owners to park their vehicles outdoors away from structures until dealers have a chance to complete the repair.
The company tells federal safety regulators that “a quality deviation” at the battery supplier’s factory left some cells with misaligned electrodes. That can lead to power loss and a battery fire.
The company is aware of at least five “thermal events” due to the defect.
Dealers will replace the batteries to fix the problem.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
