Created in Germany specifically for the Chinese market with the help of its Chinese partner SAIC Volkswagen, the premium VW Phideon Sedan debuted in Geneva. Revealed in top-line 3.0 TSI 4Motion trim with a 296-horsepower turbocharged V6, this full-size high-end 4-door embodies the bold visual character and advanced tech seen on the Volkswagen C Coupe GTE Concept presented last year at Auto Shanghai.

As the first VW production model to be spun from the new MLB (Modular Longitudinal Matrix) platform architecture, the handsomely styled Phideon rides on a 118-inch wheelbase and features air suspension similar to that used by Bentley. While the car itself is China focused, Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design Volkswagen Brand, notes that at least one facet has global implications. The Phideon’s front end introduces a grille and headlamp motif that will serve as the new “face” of future VW high-end sedans.

In keeping with its lofty status, new Phideon also offers loads of comfort, convenience and high-tech touches intended to please both those who drive and those who are driven. Full power heated/ventilated massage seats, variable ambient lighting and VW’s latest Modular Infotainment Platform are part of the mix here as are the automaker’s first application of a new camera-based Night Vision that works with the available head-up display along with a 360-degree area view that uses four individual cameras.
