Here’s an early peek at the Volkswagen GTI Clubsport Concept that will be fully revealed next week at the annual VW fan fest at Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Created to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the iconic GTI which comes up in 2016, this high-powered/high-profile one-off is rumored to be the precursor of a limited-production model. Although it remains to be seen whether any of those would-be series-build cars will ever make it to America.

Beyond its aggressively styled, aero-optimized full body kit, upgraded suspension and bespoke wheel/tire fitment, the GTI Clubsport Concept packs a modified 2.0-liter TFSI engine. Nominally rated at 265 horsepower – about 35 more than a Euro-spec GTI with a Performance Package and 45 more than the GTI we get here – the engine reportedly has a temporary boost function that can up that pony count by an additional 10 percent for short periods of time. We’ll have more facts and photos when they’re released.
