Volkswagen announced it will unveil a new, electric-powered concept in Paris as part of its “Think New” theme. This yet-unnamed vehicle will spawn a production model that VW claims “will be as revolutionary as the Beetle.” The car appears to be about the size of a current Golf and be based on the automaker’s new MEB (modular electrification kit) architecture.
VW execs have stated this new EV will have a battery pack with a range of 250-300 miles and offer a 15 minute recharging time with the appropriate setup. They also noted it will rely on conventional materials and construction techniques to keep it affordable. This volume-build version of this new Volkswagen is expected to hit the showrooms by 2020 and is part of the automaker’s target goal of selling one million pure EVs by 2025.
