Updated 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Still Under $25k

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi has refreshed its Eclipse Cross compact crossover for 2022, and the result is a significantly more competitive model for nearly the same price as the 2021 version. Virtually all of our complaints about the Eclipse Cross have been remedied.

The updates include a slightly larger grille with longer, thinner LED daytime running lights above and combined headlights/turn lamps below do give it a more contemporary look. The rear angle sees bigger changes. The vehicle is five inches longer bringing its cargo capacity more in line with class standards.

Our principal complaint about the old Eclipse Cross was a lack of driver aids. For 2022, Mitsubishi adds standard forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection and lane departure warning on all trims. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base SE model.

Bigger changes come inside, where a new 8-inch touchscreen moves closer to the driver for better ergonomics. It still has a volume knob, saving time over searching for volume functions on a screen while driving. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are standard.

Power comes from a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, making 152 horsepower, and reaches the wheels through a continuously variable transmission.  The suspension has been reworked, with larger rear shocks and additional bracing in the rear to, in theory, offer a more comfortable ride and compensate for the added length. When we get some seat-time, we’ll let you know how well that worked.

The 2022 Eclipse Cross comes in four trim levels, with prices starting at $24,590.
