Toyota will launch fuel-cell powered sedan

During a presentation at this week’s Center for Automotive Research’s Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Michigan, Toyota sales boss Jim Lentz confirmed that the first fuel-cell vehicle the automaker will introduce to the U.S. market will be a four-door sedan. Although the 2015 on-sale date had been announced previously, this was the first official verification of what type of body configuration it would use.

Lentz offered no additional details on pricing or marketing plans for this new zero-emissions entry to the lineup, nor how much it would have in common with the Toyota FCV-R Concept (shown here) that the debuted at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show last December. That vehicle — which shared a number of styling cues with the Prius and is somewhat smaller than a Camry — offered a driving range of roughly 435 miles and projected refueling times of 5-10 minutes.
