Toyota Teases (One Foot of) 2024 Land Cruiser

A teaser photo showing the nose of the 2024 Toyota Land CruiserToyota teased the first foot or so of its upcoming 2024 Land Cruiser. A note sent along with the photo says we won’t have to wait long to see the rest. The reborn off-roader “will make its world debut on August 1st,” Toyota says.

A nameplate steeped in history, the Land Cruiser left the American market after the 2021 model year. Toyota announced plans to bring it back earlier this summer.

The hints we’ve seen so far have leaned into the model’s nearly-70-year history. This latest teaser gets more specific. It shows a boxy nose and rectangular headlights on the new model. But, perhaps more significantly, it’s silhouetted against the nose of an older model – the fondly-remembered late 1980s FJ62.

The 2024 Land Cruiser may borrow the squared lines of that model. A major design trend this year has seen manufacturers make their SUVs boxier. Seriously. It’s everywhere.

But the Land Cruiser has a history to call on that many of those models don’t. Toyota could theoretically tug on your heartstrings with a boxy design in a way few others can.

Underneath the boxy design, though, we likely know what to expect. The company’s Lexus luxury division recently unveiled a new 2024 GX off-road SUV that, many observers say, could provide the underpinnings of the next Land Cruiser.

We expect to know early next week.
