Many automakers have been moving away from leather in recent years. But it all needs to go somewhere. “Somewhere” is the 2024 Toyota Tundra 1794 Limited Edition.

Unveiled today at the State Fair of Texas, the 1794 Limited Edition gets enhanced off-road capability and an interior designed in collaboration with Saddleback Leather Company. The cabin looks so much like high-end leather luggage that it comes with matching high-end leather luggage.

The standard 1794 Edition carries a list price of $62,460. No pricing was announced for the special 1794 Limited Edition, and Toyota will build just 1,500 copies of it, so scarcity could drive dealer markups.

The name refers to the year the Tundra first — no, that can’t be right. Toyota says the name honors the former ranch where the Tundra’s San Antonio factory sits.

The 1794 Edition uses the hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain. It gets 437 horsepower from the combination of a twin-turbo V6 and an electric motor. It carries Toyota’s largest cab — the Crew Max 4-door — and a short 5.5-foot bed.

An upgraded suspension uses 2.5-inch-diameter FOX internal bypass shocks with piggyback reservoirs. Toyota adds, “A 1.1-inch lift improves the stance of the truck and adds to the truck’s off-road capability.”

It’s available in four colors, but all get a dark chrome grille and body side moldings, blacked-out accents, and a tailgate stamped with the 1794 Limited Edition logo.

Inside, leather upholstery in a rich brown meets gloss black and dark chrome trim. Badges identify each specific truck’s build number out of 1,500. Luggage-style handles add a touch of elegance, and map pockets on the backs of the front seats use old-fashioned buckle clasps.

Buyers get a matching luggage set, including a large overnight bag, a tool roll, a portfolio cache for the owner’s manual, a key glove, and a small pouch.
