- Toyota and Lexus will reveal at least two new high-performance cars later this week
Toyota and its Lexus luxury division plan to unveil a pair of new sports cars later this week. One of them we have known to expect for a while. The other is a pleasant surprise.
The company released a shadowy teaser photo of three models alongside a note asking fans to tune in for a live reveal on Dec. 4.
The model in the front of the frame appears to be one we’ve seen in concept form before. The Toyota GR GT debuted on the auto show circuit as early as 2022. Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda recently hinted that it will become a production car soon, and could even kick off a new GR high-performance sub-brand that gets its own space in some Toyota dealerships.
Behind and to its right sits what could be a track-only version of the same car.
Behind and to its left sits the surprise.
The teaser photo appeared on a Lexus website used for communicating with the media, so we assume this is a Lexus model based on the same platform. Its sinuous shape slightly recalls the Lexus Sport Concept revealed in October, though this model seems to sit lower.
Its long hood, fastback form factor, and curvaceous shape contrast beautifully with angular lights stretched wide across the rear.
That long hood could hint at a sizeable engine beneath. A recent industry rumor has Toyota working on a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Paired with hybrid motors for a burst of low-end acceleration, that’s a formula for supercar performance.
If so, it could be the first Lexus halo car since the LFA went out of production more than a decade ago.
