Last week, Toyota and its Lexus luxury brand announced plans to recall more than 591,000 vehicles because their driver’s display screens could go dark after startup.
Toyota often announces recalls on its own before federal safety authorities get involved. The company’s announcement mentioned which models needed repair, but did not specify the model years.
Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a formal recall notice outlining those specifics.
The recall affects some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2023-2024 Toyota Venza
- 2023-2025 Toyota Crown
- 2025 Toyota Crown Signia
- 2023-2025 Toyota RAV4
- 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid
- 2023-2025 Toyota GR Corolla
- 2025 Toyota 4Runner
- 2025 Toyota Camry
- 2024-2025 Toyota Grand Highlander
- 2024-2025 Toyota Tacoma
- 2023-2025 Toyota Highlander
- 2024-2025 Lexus LS
- 2025 Lexus RX
- 2024-2025 Lexus TX
Toyota buys screens from more than one supplier. Only vehicles with screens from one supplier require repair, so not every copy of these vehicles faces recall.
Dealers inspect the screens and, depending on what they find, either update the software or replace a meter within the screen.
