Showing the sportier side of its all-new full-size 4-door, Toyota has prepared a pair of Avalon concept sedans that will make their debut next week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. They’ll be joined by seven other Toyota models, including a trick one-off version of the automaker’s go-anywhere FJ Cruiser.
2013 Avalon TRD Edition
Created by Toyota Racing Development, the Avalon TRD Edition mixes distinctive style with enhanced performance a healthy dose of boost courtesy of a TRD supercharger system that Toyota says "substantially" bumps power and torque of its 3.5-liter V6 engine while maintaining drivability. It’s complemented by a sport suspension with 1-inch lower ride height, more responsive steering, stiffer rear subframe bushings, 225/40 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on 19-inch alloy wheels and a TRD Big Brake kit. Visual changes to the Avalon TRD Edition’s exterior include two-tone paint, a color-keyed grille, tinted taillights and dual polished exhaust tips while the cabin boasts gradient-design perforated leather seats, custom dash/door panel trim and a 15-speaker JBL GreenEdge Surround Sound audio package with twin 500W amps.
2013 SEMA Toyota Avalon HV Edition
Offering a more eco-conscious take on the formula, the 2013 SEMA Toyota Avalon HV Edition is based on the Avalon Hybrid. Finished in bright white with a custom color-keyed grille and electric blue accents, the HV Edition retains the standard 4-cylinder gas/electric HSD powertrain but does benefit from all of the other chassis/brake/tire enhancements as its TRD Edition counterpart as well as the primo JBL sound system.
Toyota TRD FJ-S Cruiser Concept
Built to look and act the part of a true "Baja" off-road warrior, the Toyota TRD FJ-S Cruiser Concept has the design chops to keep it rolling on through any terrain. Front nudge bars and rock rails add more visual presence to this well-focused one-off, while a unique underbody "exoskeleton" adds stiffness and strength to its basic structure. A TRD supercharger kit pumps output on the FJ’s 4.0-liter V6 to 345 horses and 340 lb-ft of torque while a raised suspension, Bilstein Racing shocks and 17-inch Midnight Black TRD Beadlock wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires allow the TRD FJ-S Cruiser to go where others fear to tread.
