That Wildly Upgraded 2023 Toyota Prius Costs More

Side view of the redesigned 2023 Toyota PriusFew cars have ever had a glow-up like the 2023 Toyota Prius. In one redesign, a car famous for its frumpy looks and nerdy nature turned into a sharp, stylish wedge with a lot of power and a self-satisfied grin.

The makeover is gonna cost you a little over $2,000.

Toyota today revealed pricing for the Prius after it spent a year toning up and gaining strength. The 2023 Prius starts at $27,450, plus a $1,095 dealer processing and handling fee.

That’s a $2,375 premium over the now-forgotten 2022 Prius’ base price. But the price bump is a bit of an illusion. Toyota has eliminated the L Eco base trim, and the entry-level Prius is now the LE. Comparing the 2023 Prius LE’s price to the 2022 Prius LE’s price, we find a more manageable $1,165 increase. That fits with a trend in the auto industry this year — carmakers are trimming bare-bones base models from their lineups as Americans prove they are more willing to spend for fancy features.

The all-new 2023 Prius will also be available as a plug-in hybrid called the Prius Prime with an estimated electric-only driving range of 38 miles. Pricing on the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime is still to be announced.

2023 Toyota Prius Pricing:

The redesigned hybrid will come in three trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited. All-wheel drive (AWD) can be added to any of them for an additional $1,400 — and it might be a good idea if you live in a state where winter storms are common. One of the tricks engineers use to get the Prius its famous fuel economy is a set of tires that aren’t particularly grippy.

Toyota also charges a mandatory $1,095 destination fee on all Prius cars.

Trim MSRP
LE $27,450
LE AWD $28,850
XLE $30,895
XLE AWD $32,295
Limited $34,465
Limited AWD $35,865
