Tesla Promises Cybertruck Deliveries This Year

Those anxiously awaiting their chance to drive Tesla’s cyberpunk pickup alternative finally have a date to look forward to. CEO Elon Musk promises deliveries of the much-discussed Tesla Cybertruck will start before the end of 2021.

“We’ll make a few deliveries of the Cybertruck in 2021,” Musk said, “but volume production is set for next year.”

Design and engineering for the truck are complete, Musk said, and the company is beginning to fit out its Austin, Texas factory with the equipment to produce it. The factory could begin its first production run in May.

Despite a flurry of negative press on the truck’s divisive design, Tesla says it has received 250,000 pre-orders for the Cybertruck. Those who ordered the most expensive option will get theirs first. Tesla plans to begin production with the top-of-the-line Tri-Motor model, which starts at $69,900.  Less powerful Dual-Motor and Single Motor models, priced at $49,900 and $39,900 respectively, will follow in 2022.
