Tesla Halts Orders for Standard Range Model Y

Tesla has stopped accepting orders for the least-expensive edition of its Model Y SUV just weeks after launching trim level.

Tesla introduced the Standard Range Model Y in mid January. Available for $43,190, it has an advertised driving range of 244 miles, down from 303 miles for the Performance model, and 326 for the Long Range version.

It isn’t clear why the new version is no longer available. Tesla last year closed its public relations department and no longer provides notice of price changes to the press. We learned of Standard Range Model Y’s elimination only when the model disappeared from Tesla’s website, and we have no idea whether it may come back.

In the meantime, the least-expensive Model Y is the Long Range all-wheel drive variant at $48,990.
