Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) announced yesterday that it won’t proceed with plans to launch the all-electric Afeela 1 sedan and Afeela SUV.
Sony and Honda joined forces in 2022 to “develop and sell high value-added mobility products and to provide mobility-related services by combining the technologies, expertise, and development capabilities of Sony and Honda,” according to a SHM press release.
The Afeela 1 model was unveiled at CES 2025 with a six-figure price tag. At this year’s CES, SHM showcased a prototype for the Afeela electric SUV. The cars had a “PlayStation-on-wheels” approach that prioritized advanced entertainment options with eventual self-driving capability.
Following Honda’s recent announcement about the 0 Series and its reassessment of EV strategy, SHM determined it couldn’t bring the models to market as planned. The Afeela 1 was set to debut in California this year. SHM will issue refunds to those who have already made a reservation.
SHM said in a press release that it will continue discussions with Sony and Honda about future business plans.
