Some Corvette Owners Eligible for Free Replacement Wheels

2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Some 2020 and 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays appear to have left the factory with imperfections in their wheels. Chevrolet will have dealers replace affected wheels for free.

The wheels may have small holes or pockmarks in them, created during the casting process. There are no reports of the divots affecting the wheels’ function. They do slightly mar the appearance of one of the most beautiful cars on the road.

The move isn’t precisely a recall because it doesn’t correct a safety problem. But, through a pair of technical service bulletins, GM tells dealers to inspect the wheels of any Corvette that comes in for service. Dealers will replace those with significant imperfections free of charge. GM estimates that 10 percent of 8th-generation Corvettes may have the issue.

Though GM isn’t treating the matter as a safety concern, it does resemble a problem with some earlier Corvettes that alarmed many owners. GM currently faces a class-action lawsuit from owners of some 2016-2019 Corvettes who allege that improperly-cast wheels on their cars can crack under normal driving conditions.
