Since the day it was unveiled, the Scion FR-S coupe has spawned conjecture about if or when it would spawn a formal convertible variant. While Toyota has yet to commit to a production drop-top, the Scion FR-S T1 Concept does offer a look at a possible alternative open-air solution to keep hope alive among its legion of fans. Created for the SEMA Show by Jeremy Lookofsky of Cartel Customs – also responsible for the Scion tC Release Series 9.0 – this targa-style one-off comes with a selection of additional cosmetic and functional enhancements that further bolster the car’s already formidable enthusiast appeal.

Finished in Azzuro California Blue with black accenting on its uppers, TRD rear-window louvers and lift-off targa top, the FR-S T1 also boasts a handcrafted Cartel-design all-metal wide-body and high-mount center exhaust. The car’s standard 2.0-liter engine adds a power-boosting GReddy street turbo kit while chassis modifications include a full KW coil-over suspension and Wilwood Big Brake Kit along with 19-inch forged-alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes T1 Sport performance tires. In addition to its handsome tan leather trim and custom Cartel mats, this trick Scion turns up the volume with an OEM Audio+ System 400 and Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX head unit.
