Santa Tests A Ford Bronco for the First Time in More Than 50 Years

With Christmas just a week away, you’d think the big man had his ride sorted. But Santa Claus is apparently still considering his options.

Ford Heritage and Archives Manager Ted Ryan (yes, someone’s job is to know a lot about Model Ts and Fairlane Sunliners) recently came across an unpublished set of photographs from 1968. The shots featured the first-generation Ford Bronco undergoing testing in the Ford “cold room.” A special chamber used for testing how products respond to cold temperatures, the cold room can reach 30 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit). The proto-sport-utility has a special passenger – St. Nick himself.

There are a lot of romantics in the auto industry. Ford couldn’t resist. With the reborn 2021 Bronco on the way (even if delayed), they decided to recreate the photo shoot. They invited the man in red back, where he stood in a 2021 Bronco 2-door Outer Banks edition with the Sasquatch Package, brush bar, and modular front bumper, painted in red clearcoat to match his usual ride.

Not a traditional news story, we suppose. But we get a lot of publicity shots from automakers, and rarely one this evocative…especially a week out from Santa’s annual flight. So we thought we’d share the fun.

Incidentally, the model Santa is apparently considering would run you about $47,365.
