Rolls-Royce will phase out the current Phantom model lineup at the end of this year as it prepares to launch the eighth generation of this iconic model. While the ultra-luxury sedan variant is set to return in 2018 upderpinned by the automaker’s all-new aluminum architecture, existing Coupé and Drophead Coupé will not be back; their places filled by the Ghost-based Wraith and Dawn models. To celebrate this 13-year run, Rolls announced a suitably special sendoff for the current 2-door Phantom models this November when it builds a limited run of 50 Phantom Zenith variants.

“As the name promises, Zenith will be the pinnacle; the best of its kind; the highest standard achievable by which everything else is judged,” noted Director of Design Giles Taylor. “It will be the sum of all the best features of Phantom Coupé and Drophead Coupé, with a few surprises added. We expect huge demand for these 50 fine motor cars as we shall not look upon their like again.”

While most specifics on these Zenith models are still under wraps, Taylor said that among their unique features will be a Tailgate Hosting Area, laser-etched armrests depicting the original launch locations of 100EX in Villa D’Este and 101EX in Geneva, Bespoke instrument dials and a special treatment of the signature Spirit of Ecstasy mascot not to mention a palate of memorable color combinations from Rolls-Royce’s history. Each well-heeled customer also will drive off with a “money cannot buy” portable memento of his or her purchase. A closer read of the official Rolls statement also indicated that its Bespoke design department will create “the most highly Bespoke example” of the Phantom Limousine as well, although it offered no information at all on what might be in store for the sedan variant.
