Being readied for a reveal at January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Rinspeed Oasis Concept represents what designer and Rinspeed boss, Frank M. Rinderknecht, sees as an evolution in personal transport. Created to thrive in a contemporary urban environment, Rinderknecht characterizes this multifaceted, self-driving EV as something akin to R2D2 from Star Wars with a genuine personality and capabilities that extend well beyond what we see in the autonomous vehicles currently being evaluated by Google.
With neo-retro styling, the Oasis has an expansive greenhouse crowned with solar cells to help generate operating energy on the fly. The Oasis also boasts self-pivoting front wheels to give it a near-zero turning radius and offers a highly flexible interior that makes it suitable for daily private commuting duties or light delivery work. A spacious 2-seat cabin provides the kind of amenities you’d find in a family room, including comfy lounge chairs and a table complemented by a large windshield capable of supporting virtual and augmented reality media. The Oasis even has a small “green space” atop the dash that will accommodate a mini urban garden.

To help support its commercial potential, the Oasis incorporates a lockable, code-protected heated/cooled drawer in its aft quarters, a feature that would allow it to serve as an efficienct delivery vehicle for anything from fresh vegetables to pizza. Additional details about the Rinspeed Oasis will be released at its unveiling.
