Report: Ford Reopening Maverick Orders in July

2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid in blueFord Maverick orders are the automotive equivalent of Taylor Swift tickets. Ford’s little compact pickup has been so successful that it’s almost impossible to buy. You don’t quite have to join a fan club and sign up for a credit card to get an advanced order code to stand a chance.

But you do have to have your clicking fingers ready to go at the right date and time because they sell out fast. Last year, Ford opened Maverick orders on a Thursday and closed them the following Tuesday.

This year, Ford Authority reports, Ford will start taking Maverick orders on July 17.

We don’t know how many trucks Ford thinks it can build for the 2024 model year. Ford Authority says the company plans to add a third shift at the Hermosillo, Mexico, plant that builds the truck and will hire thousands of employees to expand production. But, last year, short supplies left Maverick order holders waiting months for trucks.

We also don’t know what changes Ford has in store for the 2024 model year. A significant update seems unnecessary, with the truck selling extremely well as-is. But some content changes between model years should be expected. We’ll bring news on what’s new when Ford releases it.

The Maverick is the first genuinely compact domestic truck in almost a decade and the least-expensive product in the Ford lineup. It offers seating for five and a bed big enough for a weekend garden center haul. It comes standard with a hybrid powertrain good for 42 mpg in city driving, though a more powerful gas-only version is available.

The 2023 Maverick starts at $22,595.

Small truck buyers also have the option of the Hyundai Santa Cruz. That’s it for now, but a recent rumor says Chevrolet is working on its own Maverick rival.
