There are three factors that consistently hold shoppers back from purchasing an electric vehicle (EV): price, range, and charging infrastructure. Interestingly enough, DC fast-charger production grew almost a third last year.
Despite ongoing narratives about uncertainty around future EV growth, a report from Paren shows that in 2025, approximately 18,000 new DC fast-charging ports were added in the U.S. — a nearly 30% increase from the previous year.
These new stations were used efficiently, too. Paren reports that an estimated 141 million charging sessions were recorded in 2025, which is a record high.
EV Funding Hold Up
Federal funding for EV chargers was interrupted in 2025 due to a pause initiated by the Trump administration early in the year. Despite this lack of funding, the number of fast chargers still grew because private companies continued to build them.

After all, even if federal funding wasn’t issued, those in the U.S. who already own EVs need continued opportunities to fast charge. Big names in the EV charging industry, like Tesla and ChargePoint, alongside growing companies like iONNA, are contributing to an influx of charging stations that are ever more accessible to EV drivers.

There are three levels of EV chargers. DC Chargers are Level 3 chargers, the fastest type. These are what you’re most likely to find at public stations. DC chargers use a high-voltage current and can deliver an 80% charge in about 30 minutes to some cars. These kinds of chargers are more commonly found on the road and aren’t ones you’ll have in your private home.
Most drivers can get around most of the time by charging only on Level 1 or 2 chargers at home or at work.
